Series Preview

A tired East Point club (9-11) comes to Cedar Park (5-12) to take on the last place Bears.

Game #1:

Mike Boddicker (1-4, 8.59) suffering through an awful season so far, wins his 1st game with a save by Chuck Crim (3). A HR by Jeff Leonard, triples by Polonia and Clark gave the Bears a 9-3 lead after 7. However, HRs by Deer, Bonilla and Buechele in the 8th and 9th brought the Marlins to within 1 run before Crim shut the door.

Game #2:

DH Ron Karkovice HRd and drove in two to lead the Marlins from a 3-run deficit and tie the game a 3. The game goes 13 innings when CP used their bench to put up a run on a sac fly by Browne. Will Clarke HRd in the 1st to give the Bears their early lead.

Game #3:

The Bears break out early again, scoring 5 in the 4th after they had already put 3 runs on the board and they had an early 8-0 lead. But they needed a 4 run 6th to close the deal as the Marlins rallied back again. Clark, Washington and Whitt HRd for the Bears, Salas for the Marlins.

Game #4:

Although tired, Bobby Bonilla (6) smacked a 2-run HR and Tartabull drove in 2 in the 3d inning to gain the early advantage. The Bears came right back with 3 in the bottom half of the inning. Mike Pagliarulo HRd off Show in the 6th to send Show to the showers and give the Bears a 5-4 lead they would hang on to. The Bears take their 4th straight from the Marlins. Crim (4) earned the save.

Game #5:

EP’s Bob Welch would stop the Bears streak with the help of an 18 hit attack against the woeful Bears’ pitching staff.
Alan Trammel (5) smacked two HRs, went 6 for 6 and drove in 5 runs.
East Pointe 11 Cedar Park 2

Game #6:

Boddicker lost again yielding 6 runs in 6 innings and the Bears bats go cold. A tired Buechele HRd (5) as did Deer (7) and Trammell (6) to lead the offense.

Game #7:

Trammel gains mention for player of the week as he drives in 4 more runs with his 7th HR, Tartabull hits his 8th and drives in 3 as the Marlins with rally for 2 in the 7th to break a 6-6 tie, they score 3 more in the 8th to seal it. Whitt and Pagliarulo HRd for the Bears, who had 11 hits but fell to the powerful Marlins lineup.
East Pointe 11 Cedar Park 6.

Series Summary *

The Bears win the series 4-3, but East Pointe appears to have a much better team. They scored 51 runs, the Bears 41, but the Marlins as a team hit 13 HRs, Trammell had 3 of them.
Next, East Pointe will host Stockton, Cedar Park heads to Washington.

 

 

·         Valdosta Bombers @ Long Beach Titans

Series Preview

A match up between the 12-9 Bombers and the 14-5 Titans.

Game #1:

Berenguer pitched a strong 6 1/3 innings to pick up a 5-1 win. Ashby, Lynn and Mattingly hit HRs to lead the offense. Bedrosian pitched 2 perfect innings to pick up the save.

Game #2:

Guerrero hit 2 HRs and drove in 4 runs to lead the Titans offense in the 6-3 win. Mattingly added a 2 run HR and Viola threw 6 strong innings to pick up the win.

Game #3:

Long Beach jumped out to a 4-0 lead but Valdosta came back and tied it 5-5 in the 7th. It stayed that way until the bottom of the 9th when Dion James singled in Dwyer with the winning run in the Long Beach 6-5 win.

Game #4:

Valdosta took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the 9th. With 2 outs, Ashby walked and Mulliniks singled to put runners of 1st and 3rd. Teufel followed with a 2b driving in the tying and winning runs in the 2-1 win. Smith pitched 7 shutout innings but the bullpen couldn’t close it out.

Game #5:

This game was 2-2 in the 10th when Wallach doubled with Walker on 1st and 2 outs. Walker tried to score but was thrown out at home by Guerrero keeping the game tied. In the bottom of the 11th Teufel singled in Braggs with the winning run in Long Beach’s 3-2 win for the Titans 3rd straight walk off win.

Series Summary *

Long Beach swept the 5 game series. The Titan bullpen was key pitching 15 innings in the series and allowing just 2 runs.

 

 

·         Manhattan Gas Hornets @ Michigan Marauders

The first place Manhattan team comes to play Michigan.

In the 10th, Manhattan scores a run, but Michigan comes back to score 2 in the 10th to win the game. Manhattan hits 4 homers in the loss.

·         Bethel Champs @ Germantown Grays

Series Preview

Germantown Grays welcomes the Bethel Champs for a five game series on the first nice spring day of the year.

Game #1:

Flanagan (4-0) was untouchable going the distance allowing 2 hits and 4 walks with 6 Ks. Brower (.341) provided the fada complete with a GRAND SLAM in the fourth while McGwire (.329) banged a homer in his first at bat in the series. Grays 7 Champs 0.

Game #2:

Bethel continues their anemic ways as Morgan (3-2) goes the distance allowing 4 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2. Morgan supplied his own run support and Champ’s Carman (0-3) wasted a stellar effort. Grays 1 Champs 0.

Game #3:

Bethel begins to play like their capable of late in the game and pull this one out in the 9th. Daniels (.268) was 2-4 with 3 RBI on the day, but Young (.125) got the honers with a winning 3-run homer in the 9th. Orosco and Stoddard pitched 3 shut innings to set up the come back. Grays McGwire was 3-3 with a double and homer to no avail.; ; Champs 9 Grays 8.

Game #4:

The Champs continued to pummel the Grays. Diaz (.319) led the way going 4-7 with 6 RBI 2 runs and a homer with Concepcion and Marshall chipping in 4 RBI each.; ; Champs 21 Grays 7

Then Bethel disappears again allowing the Grays to grab the rubber match. Grays 6 Champs 1

Series Summary *

Grays are starting to show kinks in the superb play they started with. They will be thoroughly tested in next week as they go north to face Manhatten. Germantown manages to win 3 of 5 from a more talented Bethel squad.
