                  1979 LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Detroit vs. Fort Worth -

Detroit was too strong for the Panthers as they take the ALCS in 5 games. Down two games to none Ft. Worth won an exciting extra inning affair in game 3 when Adams delivered a pinch hit single in the 11th. However in the next game the Panthers blew an 8th inning 9 to 6 lead and then were totally dominated by Stars starter Guidry in 5th game. The lefty stroke out 13 while only allowing 4 hits in a complete game shutout.

Long Beach vs. Gold River -

The NLCS is between the two second-place finishers and is an all-California affair. It turns out to be a very exciting series of close games, wherein homefield seemed like more of a disadvantage, with the homers going 1-5. There were 3 shutouts, including two 1-0 gems and a 2-0 affair, but game 3 was a 10-8 rollercoaster. Game 5 was won in the ninth.
