CapJack Rangers
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Rangers have 2 at home this week with Texas and Charlestown and trying to remain atop the Patrick Divison and hold off a charging Pittsburgh. Plus the fight for home ice is very close.
Texas Brahmas @ CapJack Rangers It’s the Smythe cellar vs. the Patrick penthouse and the cellar dwellers RULE – BIG TIME!!
Texas opens strong with 3 in the 1st period and then when the Rangers score the only goal in the 2nd to go to the 3rd down 3-2, what does Texas do? They score 4 unanswered 3rd-period goals to walk away with a laugher, 7-2.
Scoring starts in the 1st with a Rangers PP goal from Cloutier. But Dave Maloney thumbs his brother and responds with a Texas goal a minute later. Then Taylor and Cowboy Bill Plett score in the latter half of the period for a 3-1 Brahmas lead after 1.Ray Allison draws the Rangers within 1 with a goal in the 2nd.And the game stays that way until Texas’s Andreychuck scores with 8 minutes to go for 4-2 Texas lead. About a minute later, Acton grabs a loose puck while short-handed and gets it by Resch for a 5-2 lead. 4 1/2 to go and McCourt puts one in, and then Boutette decides to add insult to injury and scores with 9 seconds left, and Texas skates off 7-2 winners! In addition to the lopsided score – so were the shots: 48-25 Texas and scoring chances 39-11 Texas!
STARS (all TEX)
1. Action 1 goal 1 assist
2. Andreychuk 1 goal 1 assist
3. McCourt 1 goal 1 assist
Charlestown Chiefs @ CapJack Rangers Well, the Rangers needed to rebound but this game starts out with the Chiefs scoring 2 goals within the opening 2 minutes. McCarthy grabs a loose puck at his blue line and goes end to end on a breakaway and dekes out Resch to score 38 seconds into the game! Then a minute later Nicholls fires one in with an assist from McCarthy and it’s 2-0, 1:41 into the game. At least we don’t give up – Robinson scores a PP goal just 4 minutes later. But McDonald tallies for the Chiefs midway in the 1st and the 1st period ends with a 3-1 lead for Charlestown.

Chiefs continue to like the opening minute of the periods as McDonald scores his 2nd 49 seconds into the 2nd period. Coffey, McKegney, and McDonald (again for the hat trick) add 3 more Chiefs goal – Crowder gets one late for the Rangers and the 2nd ends 7-2 Charlestown.

What is going on? The third period sees the Rangers come out fighting and Crowder scores his 2nd a minute and a 1/2 in and then DeBlois scored 5 minutes later and it’s now 7-4 Chiefs. That’s beginning to look better – except Murphy scores for Charlestown making it 8-4 and even a last-minute goal from Neufeld couldn’t help and the final is all Charlestown, 8-5, UGH. 8 goals on 23 shots……
STARS
1. CHA – McDonald 3 goals
2. CHA – McCarthy 1 goal, 3 assists
3. CAP – Crowder 2 goals

WEEKLY SUMMARY: So, a VERY disappointing 2 game homestand nets 0 points. We would have preferred kissing our sister, but couldn’t even accomplish that as both Texas and Charlestown came to win – and did!
Dallas Drakes
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Drakes at home for 2
Ohio Legends @ Dallas Drakes Illka Sinisalo gets the scoring early for the Drakes but Andurs Kallur deflects a Tony Currie shot past Glen Hanlon to even the game up at 1. Randy Carlyle blows a shot past Daniel Bouchard as the Drakes take a 2-1 lead at the first intermission. The game went back and forth but Ronny Duguay wristed a shot in on the Power Play and the Drakes pull ahead 3-1 after 2. Ohio had its chances in the third but couldn’t beat Hanlon and Al Secord put in goals 70-71 for the Drakes who go on to win 5-1.
North Carolina 89’ers @ Dallas Drakes Dave Babych gets the scoring started for the 89’ers 1:21 into the first but Paul Baxter beats Grant Fuhr with a knuckleball shot to tie the game. Less than 3 minutes later Randy Carlyle puts the Drakes ahead which is where it heads into the second 2-1. Jimmy Fox ties up the game as the 89’ers dominate the period but Al Secord puts number 72 past Grant Fuhr for the lead. The third period went back and forth but Keith Ellacott frustrates the 89’ers for the second time in a week and the Drakes go away with a 3-2 victory
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Drakes win both at home
New Castle Ducks
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Ducks are slumping, having lost 3 in a row and 4 of their last 5. The slump coming at the worst time as they fight for a playoff position. Now third in the Norris Division, trailing Dallas and Chicago, New Castle has two tough games this week at home: against league-leading Mackinac Island and against the St. Clair Shores – a team that has played the Ducks tough all season
Mackinac Island Moose @ New Castle Ducks MAC 4 NCD 3 A crushing loss for the Ducks as Jari Kurri scored a power-play goal (44) with 56 seconds left to break a 3-3 tie and give the Moose the win. New Castle struck first on Middleton’s 45th of the year. The Moose tied it later in the first before Willy Lindstrom scored his 16th to make it 2-1 Ducks at intermission. New Castle opened a 3-1 lead in the second on Middleton’s second goal of the game. But 15 seconds later Mike O’Connell scored for Mac Island to make it 3-2. In the third, Blake Dunlop tied the game (30) at 2:54 and the teams then battled it out until Kurri’s game-winner in the final minute.

THREE STARS:
1- NCD Middleton 2 G
2- MAC Kurri 1G 1 A
3- MAC O’Connell 1G 1 A

Billy Smith made 32 saves for NCD as MAC outshot the Ducks 36-30. The Moose’s league-best power play scored only once in 7 tries but the one was the game-winner.

Saint Clair Shores Saints @ New Castle Ducks NCD 3 SCS 3 St Clair Shores has the fewest points in the league but they have the Ducks number this season, as their record against NCD is now 2-1-2. Following the crushing loss to the Moose, the tie against St. Clair Shores was even worse as the Ducks blew a 3-0 lead in the third period. Goals by Middleton (47), Walter (32), and Marian Stastny (28) in the second period gave New Castle what looked like an insurmountable lead. But in the third period, the momentum shifted when Mike McDougal scored short-handed to make it 3-1. McDougal has only 11 goals on the season – and yet this was his FOURTH goal in the last 2 games against the Ducks! Three minutes after McDougal’s goal, Gaetan Duchesne scored on a power play to make it 3-2, and then less than 2 minutes after that, Duchesne did it again – at even strength – his second of the game and 20th of the year – tying the game at 3-3. And that’s how it ended.

THREE STARS:
1- SCS Duchesne 2G
2- NCD Ryan Walter 1 G 1 A
3- NCD Stastny 1 G

WEEKLY SUMMARY: It’s a disappointing week at home for the Ducks as they go 0-1-1. After leading in the Norris Division most of the season, New Castle now trails Chicago by 4 points and Dallas by 8, pending the results of the remaining games this week. If the season were to end now, the Ducks would be the fourth seed and have to play the powerful Moose in Round One. New Castle has two games on the road this week (against NOC and OHIO) and will then have only 7 games left in the season after that

Brooklyn Harbor Rats
WEEKLY PREVIEW: After hosting the Sasquatch and Cardinals (2 teams Brooklyn is chasing in the playoff race), we host the same two teams this week.
Portland Sasquatch @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats A 3-3 tie late in the 2nd period sees Dino Cicarelli whistled off for a double minor. Anton Stastny nets Brooklyn’s 3rd power-play goal of the game to put the Rats up 4-3. Just :43 ticks into the 3rd period, Dave Christian scores to give the Harbor Rats a 2 goal lead. It stays that way until we get to the final 2 minutes and before Portland can pull their goalie Robbie Ftorek scores on a breakaway to put Brooklyn up by 3. Phil Housley adds his second goal of the game in the final minute to make the final score 7-3 for the Rats. Brooklyn goes 3-6 with the man advantage.
Catoctin Cardinals @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats The Rats come out flying as Gustafsson and Stastny each score with the man advantage on delayed penalty calls. Behn Wilson’s power-play goal early in the 2nd opens a 4-0 Brooklyn lead. Catoctin gets a pair of goals to cut the lead in half but Gustafsson again scores on the delayed penalty call and Housley nets one in the final minute to send us to the 3rd period with a 6-2 lead on the way to a 7-4 final. Stastny and Gustafsson each get 2 goals, Paul Reinhart picks up 3 assists.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: 4 points in a pair of home games to keep the Harbor Rats in the playoff chase, and 14 goals in 2 games to keep the Brooklyn crowd entertained!
Pittsburgh Spirit
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Spirit hopes to continue their unlikely ascension into a possible playoff spot!
Charlestown Chiefs @ Pittsburgh Spirit Another “Brotherly Brawl”

Charlestown bullies its way into the Graveyard as Nicholls (34) punches them in the nose early (23 seconds) for a 1-0 Chiefs lead.

Levo (4) and Sittler (35) fight back to get a 2-1 lead in less than 2 minutes.

Less than a minute later Coffey (24) wakes up to tie the game 2-2.

2nd Period – all Spirit as they outshoot the Chiefs 12-7 and outscore with 2 goals (Dvorak and Paiement) to make it 4-2.

3rd period – Coffey (25) ain’t done… brings the Chiefs within one, 4-3.

2 minutes later, Haworth (9) makes it 5-3.

Coffey (26) would complete the HT but that’s the highlight for the Chiefs as the Spirit win 5-4!

A pair of former Chiefs hurt them with Paiement and Haworth scoring against their former team.

Texas Brahmas @ Pittsburgh Spirit Texas scores 31 seconds in as Boutette gets his 15th on the year. 1-0 Texas

Steen gets it back with his 26th to tie it 1-1.

Then Texas takes off and scores 3 straight goals (Sutter with two, and Boutette with his 2nd of the game) to make it 4-1 Texas as the 1st period ends.

2nd Period – 47 seconds in Larmer scores his 47th to bring the Spirit within two, 4-2.

Texas punches back and lands with Hughes (19) giving the 3 goal lead back, 5-2.

Pittsburgh gets two goals from Pettersson (20, 21) to make it a game 5-4.

Then Steen ties it up with his 27th! 5-5…

Head to the 3rd period…

Both teams firing away. Texas with 16 shots, Pittsburgh with 17.

“Spot starter” Mattsson turns all 16 away, but with 20 seconds left, Palmateer lets one slip past him as Gare (10) gives the Spirit the lead and the win, 6-5.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Two home games, two wins. This team is heating up at the right time? Or is this all a mirage?

8 more games to go to find out.

Catoctin Cardinals
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Another week with 2 home games as the divisional race gets closer to the finish line.
Pittsburgh Spirit @ Catoctin Cardinals PIT 7 CAT 4

Jensen gets wrecked in a game the Cardinals cannot afford to lose. Larmer and Sittler scored twice for the Spirit.

CapJack Rangers @ Catoctin Cardinals CAP 1 CAT 2

The Cardinals take the W in a game that saw way more action on the penalty sheet than the score sheet. Larry Murphy’s goal was good for the winner.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: The Cardinals split at home against the top teams in the other division.

Syracuse Bulldogs @ Ohio Legends SYR 6, OHIO 3

The Bulldogs got a pair of third-period goals from Curt Fraser to break a 3-3 tie and cruise to victory. Ohio exploded for 22 shots in the third period, but it was Syracuse scoring four times on eight shots in the third that was more impressive.

New Castle Ducks @ Ohio Legends NCD 4, OHIO 1

Ohio was impressive in holding New Castle to nine shots for the GAME. The Ducks were impressive in scoring FOUR times on those limited chances.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Another week, another pair of losses. The Legends are 2-11-3 in their last 16 games since February 10.

When is the draft?

Saint Clair Shores Saints
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Chicago and Dallas invade the Shores this week.
Chicago Underground @ Saint Clair Shores Saints This one wasn’t pretty. McClanahan gets the Saints on the board early, but Chicago scores 3 straight goals – Bossy, Vaive, and Savard all score. Bossy scores his 63rd of the year. It’s 3-1 after one.

Dallas Drakes @ Saint Clair Shores Saints The Saints stun the Drakes as they awake from a season-long slumber. Bridgman (former Drake) scores a hat trick all in the 3rd period to put the game away. Huddy, Duchesne, and Babych all score. Maruk and Dionne score for Dallas.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: SCS gets blown out by Chicago, but redeems itself with a big win against Dallas.
Texas Brahmas
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The temperature is rising, the BBQ is smoking and the cow dung is reeking as the Brahmas entertain Charlotte and Brooklyn in Fort Worth.
Charlotte Dynamo @ Texas Brahmas Texas starts off strong with an early goal by Sutter but Charlotte answers with two 9Douglass and Rogers) for a 2-1 lead after one. Texas gets the only goal in the second as Jonsson scores. Perreault gives Charlotte the lead 4:29 into the third, but Boutette ties it at 3 where the games ends. When is OT added to the NHL??
