New Castle Ducks
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Two tough games at home this week for the Ducks: against Cap Jack and Conference rival North Carolina. The Ducks are second in the Norris Division, trying to catch the Division-leading Chicago Underground
CapJack Rangers @ New Castle Ducks NEW CASTLE 7 CAPJACK 3
A surprisingly one-sided game as the mighty Ducks strafe the Rangers for FIVE first period goals, sending Dan Bouchard to the bench, with Chico Resch replacing him. Resch allowed only 2 goals the rest of the way but Billy Smith stood tall in goal for the Ducks as they won it easily.
As usual, the Duck’s #1 line of Walter-Pederson-Middleton was lighting things up. Middleton scored twice and added an assist, Walter had a goal and THREE assists and Pederson had a goal and an assist. New Castle outshot CapJack 43-34 and won 46 of 70 faceoffs. Bobby Clarke won 15 of 19 faceoffs and had 3 assists.THREE STARS:
1- Middleton
2- Walter
3- Pederson
North Carolina 89’ers @ New Castle Ducks North Carolina 7 New Castle 5

Don Edwards continues to struggle in goal for the Ducks, as he allowed 6 goals on 27 shots (the 7th goal was an empty netter) as North Carolina upsets the Ducks at the Duck Pond.
The Ducks got off to a good start when Tiger Williams, of all people, scored at the 42-second mark to make it 1-0. The 89ers tied it on a goal by Blaine Stoughton before NEW regained the lead on a goal by who else but Barry Pederson (15). But again NOC came right back as Jim Fox scored with 3 seconds to go in the first period and the teams went to the locker room tied 2-2.
In the second period, Doug Wickenheiser and Steve Payne scored for the 89ers as Doug Soetart turned away 8 NEW shots. 4-2 North Carolina after two.
The Ducks came out flying in the third period and at 4:06 Marc Tardif scored –his 8th of the year–to make it 4-3. Then some five minutes later Barry Pederson did it again – as the Ducks star center – scored his 16th to tie the game. Not to be denied, the 89ers came right back as defenseman Dave Babych scored an unassisted goal to put NOC back on top 5-4. Michel Goulet added another goal to make it 6-4. That goal proved important as Marian Stastny scored with 52 seconds left and the New Castle net empty. With the Ducks fans quacking, New Castle pressed in the final minute only to see Guy Chouinard score into an empty net and quiet the crowd.

THREE STARS:
1- NEW Pederson 2 G
2- NOC Babych 1G 2 A
3- NOC Fox 1G 1 A

Edwards is now 2-4-5 this season as a starting goalie for NEW

WEEKLY SUMMARY: The Ducks split their two home games and come away with 2 of a possible 4 points

Brooklyn Harbor Rats
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Only one home tilt for the Harbor Rats this week, as the Underground invade Brooklyn
Chicago Underground @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats Mike Gartner’s power-play goal ties the game for Brooklyn at 1-1 early in the 2nd period, but just one minute later Mike Bossy puts Chicago back in front. The Rats convert on another power play to even the score again and just one minute later, it’s Mark Johnson snapping the tie to give the home team their first lead of the game. Just a couple of minutes before the 2nd intermission, Johnson gets his second goal of the night to establish a 2 goal Rats lead heading to the 3rd. Chicago comes hard in the final 20 minutes, getting 3 power-play chances, and eventually Bossy nets his second goal of the night with the extra attacker on in the final minute. But that’s all they get as the visitors fall short, final score 4-3 Brooklyn.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: picked up another 2 points in our one home contest
Catoctin Cardinals
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Catoctin rolls in the week with 2 home games and 2 road games. The Cardinals will face the Moose and the Drakes at home.
Mackinac Island Moose @ Catoctin Cardinals MAC 5 CAT 4

The Moose score the winner with 3 seconds left. A heartbreaking loss after the Cardinals fought their way back from a 4-2 deficit.

Fun Stat of the game: Jari Kurri backed his passing stick as he added 3 assists.

Dallas Drakes @ Catoctin Cardinals DAL 4 CAT 2

The Cardinals keep it close but again fail to secure a win at home. The Drakes added an empty netter to widen the margin late.

Fun Stat of the game: Both teams combined for 54 PIMs, 2 fights, and misconduct helped that number a lot.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: The Cardinals have a rough home week and continue to play at a middle of the road level.
Ohio Legends
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Ohio Legends play host to one home game during the Thanksgiving week, as the Catoctin Cardinals roll into town.
Catoctin Cardinals @ Ohio Legends OHIO 5, CATOCTIN 2

Mark Pavelich had a pair of goals to lead Ohio to the win. Jerry Korab and Bernie Federko each had a pair of assists and John Anderson had a goal and an assist for the winners. The key to the win was a three-for-eight power play for the Legends, while the Cardinals went one-for-five with the man-advantage.

Glen Hanlon took home the win with 27 saves, while Bob Sauve took the loss with 22 stops.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: The win moves Ohio to five-game under .500 and brings it, temporarily, into second place in the Adams Division — still 20 points behind the Mackinac Island Moose.
Mackinac Island Moose
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Moose host the high-scoring Chiefs to the Island this week for the only home game.
Charlestown Chiefs @ Mackinac Island Moose So what happens when the 2 highest scoring teams match up? GOALS GOALS GOALS ………………

The goalie’s squads draw straws to see who gets abused today, and it’s Riggin vs. Melanson.

Cut to the chase scene ……………….

Riggin has been pulled, and Micalef is not in goal after the Moose have put up 7 goals. Smyl 2, Tambellini, Propp, Park, Kurri, and Dunlop for the Moose. Melanson still in goal after allowing goals from Potvin, Shedden, Nicholls, Gradin, Tremblay, and Kruselnyski.

It’s 7-6 Moose as we wind into the last minute. And Kurri scores his 2nd goal, making it 8-6 Moose. All looks good for the home team. Chiefs pull the goalie. On the faceoff, Chief takes the puck, and Potvin scoring only 16 seconds later to make it 8-7 with 43 seconds left. Moose bring in their best defensive players. The puck drops and the puck moves into the Moose zone again. A flurry of shots results in McDonald scoring to make it 8-8. Moose fans deflated and worried because there is still 14 seconds left. Puck drop, the puck moves to the Moose end again, but a blocked shot and the horn sounds.

8-8, twin snowmen.

1st star -Kurri 2G 5pts
2nd – Smyl 2G 3pts
3rd – Potvin 2G

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Titanic battle, 16 goals, and still no team comes out the winner. Bummer.

Melanson still with PTSD, and weeks of treatment ahead. Fun game to watch, frustrating to coach.

Portland Sasquatch
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Portland hosts Dallas (9-9-1) and CapJack Rangers (10-9-0)
Dallas Drakes @ Portland Sasquatch Dallas gets 3 goals in the first period to silence the Portland crowd but the Sasquatch battle back to tie the game at 4-4 with 4:16 left in the game. Dallas’s Sinisalo scores his second goal of the game with 2:5 left to give Dallas the 5-4 road win

Star #1 – Sinisalo 2 goals, 3 points
Star #2 – Maruk 3 assists
Star #3 – Hartsburg 1 goal

Beaupre 30 saves

CapJack Rangers @ Portland Sasquatch Both teams score twice in the first period and then the defense took over. Portland finally broke the tie with 49 seconds remaining on a goal by McKenna but the Rangers responded with a goal of their own 15 seconds later from Trottier to end the game in a 3-3 tie

Star #1 – Lofthouse 2 goals
Star #2 – Ciccarelli 1 goal, 2 points
Star #3 – Gretzky 1 goal, 2 points

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Portland goes 0-1-1 as they battle for the division lead
Dallas Drakes
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Can the Drakes get off of the 1 up 1 down merry go round?
Texas Brahmas @ Dallas Drakes 80’s hockey at its best……the Drakes come out and come out leading 4-1 to midway through the first period. Texas scores a pair and George Ferguson gets it down to a 1 goal game. The Drakes score 3 quick ones to go up 7-3 and go on to win 10-6. Marcel Dionne had 5 points and Paul Woods chipped in 2.
Ohio Legends @ Dallas Drakes Ohio comes to town and lay the wood to the Drakes. The Legends go up by three goals in the first and Don Maloney scores at 16:55 in the first period. Ohio plays a solid Defensive game to win 4-1 behind great goaltending from John Garrett.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: The good news is that the Drakes score 11 goals in two home games……the bad is that they scored 10 of them in one game.
Texas Brahmas
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Only one home game this week sees Ohio come into Fort Worth for a matchup of struggling teams.
Ohio Legends @ Texas Brahmas Good news! Texas strikes first in the 1st, scoring 2 goals (Nilsson and Vaive) to go up 2-0.
Bad news! Ohio scores the next 4 (Anderson, Pavelich, Currie x2) to take a 4-2 lead early in the 3rd.
Good news! Texas scores (Nilsson) to get within 1!
Bad news! Allison scores for Ohio to rebuild the lead to 2.
Good news! Lowe scores to cut the lead to 1!
Great news! Hughes pots one with the goalie pulled to tie it at 5!
Meh news – the game ends in a tie
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Well, an exciting game if not an exciting result. A tie is better than a loss though.
CapJack Rangers
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Rangers home for 2 in a season that has not been satisfying so far. Hovering around .500 – plenty of offense, but we still can’t keep goals out of the net… We take on Texas and Syracuse – who is fighting St. Clair for the worst team in the league!
Texas Brahmas @ CapJack Rangers Another high scoring affair sees the Rangers win the 3rd period 4-3 and only because they scored the final goal with 26 seconds left – right after the Brahmas McCourt tied the game in the final minute. The Ranger’s goal made the final 8-7 CapJack. It was like the teams played with the empty net – not really, there were 74 shots on goal in the game (124 attempts). 3 players with 2 goals each (see the Stars reports) – 3 PP goals…

STARS:
1. TEX Poddubny 2 goals, 3 assists
2. CAP Lundholm 2 goals, 1 assist
3. TEX Vaive 2 goals, 1 assist

Syracuse Bulldogs @ CapJack Rangers For the 2nd straight home game, the Rangers win the 3rd period 4-3! However, the 3rd Bulldogs goal came with 40 seconds left by Larouche, into an empty net, and that lifted the Bulldogs to a much cherished 7-5 win.
Syracuse owned the opening period, high octane offense (15-13 SOG for SYR), and Lee, Bellows, and Holmgren all scored in the open 4 1/2 minutes. Somehow Neufeld found time to get one for Rangers in that time frame and then it got quiet for the rest of the period, 3-1 Syracuse after 1.Holmgren quickly lit the light to start the 2nd – and that was it for period 1 – huh? Anyway, 4-1 Bulldogs.3rd period starts and Bellows scores a PP goal for the Bulldogs, 5-1 Syracuse. Then the Rangers opened up in the 3rd with Semenko, Shutt, and Crowder scoring in the 1st 10 minutes and it was 5-4! But Broten makes it 6-4 scoring 1 with 4 to go. But Cloutier scores for the Rangers with 1 1/2 to go and it was 6-5 Bulldogs – before the Larouche EN goal ended the game. FINAL 7-5 Syracuse.
STARS (all SYR)
1. Holmgren 2 goals, 2 assists
2. Bellows 2 goals
3. Larouche 1 goal, 2 assists
WEEKLY SUMMARY: So, we are a .500 team (even against the weaker teams)……..
North Carolina 89’ers
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The 89ers welcome Brooklyn and Texas to North Carolina this week.
Brooklyn Harbor Rats @ North Carolina 89’ers Wild game with a lot of lead changes. Two goals for each team within the last 2 minutes of the third period.

FINAL SCORE: NC 7, Brooklyn 6

THREE STARS:

Goulet – NC – 1G 2A

Fuhr NC – 38 saves

FINAL SCORE: Texas 7 NC 2

THREE STARS:
Vaive – TX – 3G 1A
Nilsson – TX – 1G 4A
Poddubny – TX – 1G 3A
