|GAME #1||1st- The 89ers come out FLYING and Fuhr stands on his head stopping point-blank shots from Maruk , Lindstrom, Secord and a BA from Boxxy. It pays off as Hitchison scores from Payne and Shedden. But before the period ends Maruk gets Philly on the board from Hartsburg and Mullen.
Period ends 1-1 NC outshoots Philly 19-132nd- Philly turns the tables in the second. Maruk gets his 2nd of the game from Mullen and Linseman and later Secord gets his first from Hartsburg. But with Secord off on a 4min High Stick and a 10-minute misconduct Steve Payne pulls the 89ers within 1 from Stoughton. Philly returns the PP as Maruk gets his HAT TRICK from Sinisalo and Carlyle with Babych off for Hooking
Period ends 4-2 SOG 26-21 NC3rd- Philly explodes in the 3rd as they have done throughout the season. Hartsburg starts it with a low blast from the point from Dionne and Lindstrom then Secord gets his 2nd from Dionne and Lindstrom. JohnTonelli puts Philly up 7-2 with his first from Hardy and Bridgeman . Grant Furs day is over as Doug Soetart enters and immediately gives up a goal to Holmgren from Hill and Ruff. Maruk then gets his 4th from Linseman and Carlyle. Goulet shows the 89ers don’t give up from Lumley and Broten. And with 18 seconds left Tiger Williams takes on Holmgren to let Philly know this was just one game.FINAL Philly 9 NC 301. Maruk 4G

|After Philly dominates game one we expect a different game in two|
|GAME #2||1st- Philly comes out this time flying .>Secord gets his 3rd of the year from Dionne to put Philly up. But this isn’t game ones 89ers. Broten ties it up with his 1st from Lumley and Goulet and then the pain in the ass Lumley scores his 1st from Babych putting the 89ers up 2-1. But this is a back and forth period Secord ties it up with his 4th of the playoffs from Lindstrom and Dionne. Hutchison blasts one by Wamsley to put NC up 3-2. Brenner pulls Wamsley in place of Dennis Herron at that point. Lindstrom ties it up 3-3 with his 1st from Secord.
3-3 Tie 19-9 shots Philly2nd – Both goalies take over period 2 with Fuhr having the most dynamic saves. Period ends still 3-33rd- Sinisalo gets a break-away halfway through the period and burries it behind Fuhr his 1st from Hartsburg and it’ looking like a tight Philly win. But Dave Babych blasts one by Herron his 1st ties it 4-4 and we go into overtime.OT – Philly outshoots NC 5-1 with a torrid start to the period and then the Lil Beaver Dionne on a wrap-around his 1st of the year and Philly escapes 5-4Philly 5 NC 4 in OT01. The 89ers try to dig themselves out of a 2-0 hole against Philadelphia.
|GAME #3||The 89ers are on the power play almost as soon as the game starts. The Firebirds kill the penalty and soon are on a power play of their own, and Maruk is able to capitalize. 1-0 Firebirds, Maruk’s 2nd goal of game at 10:52 puts Philadelphia up with a 2-0 lead. With 38 seconds left in the first the 89ers convert on a power play making it 2-1 at the break, despite NC leading in shots 19-9.
Secord puts Philadelphia up 3-1 at 13:41 of the second but Jarvis puts NC back within 1 at the halfway mark. Firebirds 3-2. Shortly after, Mongrain scores hist 1st of the playoffs putting Phi up 4-2. With 3 left in the 2nd, Goulet fires a slapshot from just inside the zone and it beats Wamsley, again bringing the score within 1.
The third is high on action but low on scoring, the only goal being a redirection by Payne ties the game up at 4 late in the period, forcing overtime.
Early in OT Milbury receives a double minor for high sticking, and Secord soon scores the game winner.
FINAL SCORE: Philadelphia 5 NC 4 (OT)
|Down 3-0, NC is right where Philadelphia wants them. NC has their backs against the wall, down 3-0.|
|GAME #4||Low scoring first period as the only goal comes from Jarvis at 11:38. 1-0 NC heading into the second.
Van Boxmeer ties it up early in the second, 1-1, but 21 seconds later Wickenheiser puts NC back on top. 19 seconds after that Wickenheiser assists Goulet to put NC up 3-1. Fox gets in on the action at 13:53, extending the lead to 4-1. Halfway point in the period and Goulet scores his second. 5-1 NC. The rapid scoring finally settles down and that’s where we end the period.
At 12:27 Fox scores his second of the game, his power play goal extending the lead to 5. After the last three games NC knows better than to let up, and scores their 7th on a Broten slap shot with 36 seconds left in the game.

|Great game by NC – great defense (giving up only 11 shots), great offense, great goal-tending. But it’s probably too little too late with the series now 3-1 Philadelphia.|
|GAME #5||1st- The most dominating 1st period Philly plays all year …guess it happens after getting stomped 7-1. Lindstrom scores 2 goals and Secord gets his 7th and Philly out shoots NC 25-5
2nd- Game over right? no soooo fast. Carolina battles back as with Hartsburg off for a Highstick Ogrodnick gets his 1st on the PP. Minutes later the oft injured Broten gets his 3rd from Milbury and Babych. And before the period ends Ogrodnick gets his 2nd from Fox
3rd- Philly wastes no time as Al Hill gets his 1st SH on a BA from Linseman and Carlyle. Minutes later Maruk gets his 7th from Linseman and on a BA Dionne puts philly up again by 3 with his 2nd from Mullen. ENTER Soetart. But again 89ers battle back. Goulet gets his 5th from Lumley and Broten but before the announcer finishes the call Maruk puts one past Soetart for his 8th from Linseman and Mullen. The 89ers never say die attitude continues as Stoughten tips in a Babych blast for his 2nd but the game and series end there.
