WEEKLY SUMMARY: Per usual Syracuse loses both home games
Vermont Foresters
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Ducks have two home games this week against teams in the other division of their Conference – the North Carolina 89ers (who they may meet in the playoffs) and the Ohio Legends. The Ducks are in second place in the Norris Division and hoping to clinch a playoff spot before long. New Castle has been in a bad slump going 10 games in a row with only one win prior to winning last week against Mackinac Island.
North Carolina 89’ers @ Vermont Foresters NEW 5 NOC 2 After falling behind 2-0, the Ducks rally for FIVE goals, including a HAT TRICK for Ryan Walter. For Walter, it was his THIRD hat trick of the season as he now has 40 goals. The Ducks two other scoring stars, Rick Middleton and Barry Pederson scored the other goals. Marian Statsny, the RW on the Middleton-Pederson line had 4 assists. Billy Smith had a great game in goal as he made 22 saves with the teams virtually even in SOG.

THREE STARS:
1- NEW Ryan Walter 3G HAT TRICK
2- NEW Rick Middleton 1G, 2 A
3- NEW Barry Pederson 1G 1 A

The Ducks have now beaten the 89ers 4 of 5 this season

Ohio Legends @ Vermont Foresters NEW 5 OHIO 2 It is the Ryan Walter show once again as the high scoring LW nets two more to lead the Ducks to victory. Walter’s first goal tied it at 1-1 and his second goal broke a 2-2 tie and turned out to be the game-winner. Walter now has 42 goals on the season. Rick Middleton scored two more for the Ducks and now has 49. Steve Bozek, with 32 on the season, scored his 3rd goal as a Duck to give New Castle an insurance goal late in the third period.
The Ducks have the league’s best power play and they took advantage of some rough house tactics by Ohio, scoring two power-play goals. Late in the first period, Ohio defenseman Bob Manno was given a MATCH PENALTY for intent to injure, leading to a five-minute power play for the Ducks – resulting in Walter’s first goal. Manno has been suspended by the MWOTHL for FOUR GAMES! In the third period, the Legends Mark Pavelich got a five minute major for cross-checking. Middleton took advantage this time with his second goal of the game.THREE STARS:
1- NEW Middleton 2 G
2- NEW Walter 2G
3- OHI Alain Cote 1G 1 ABunny Larocque got back on the winning side as he made 34 saves to improve to 18-8-4 on the season. Glen Hanlon (8-16-3) was the losing goalie, despite 32 saves. The DUcks outshot Ohio in the third period 18-7 as the overall SOG ended up virtually even (37-36 New Castle)
WEEKLY SUMMARY: A good week at home for the Ducks as they have now won three in a row and hopefully have ended their slump. If Walter stays hot, the Ducks could have three 50 goal scorers, with Pederson there already and Middleton right behind with 49.
Vermont Foresters
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Two home games for Vermont this week
Charlotte Dynamo @ Vermont Foresters Vermont gets 3 goals in the 3rd – 2 from Hislop- to break open a 2-2 and turn it into a 5-2 victory. Wilson (PP) and Rogers get the Dynamo goals.
STARS: (all VER)
1. Hislop 2 goals, 1 assist
2. Routsalainen – a hat trick of assists (3 assists)
3. Lukowich 1 goal
Brooklyn Harbor Rats @ Vermont Foresters Vermont host Patrick division Brooklyn in an attempt to be a spoiler. And it almost worked – almost. The biggest issue the Foresters had were the 16 minutes of penalties that game Brooklyn 7 power plays – and they converted on 4 of them.
1st period Foligno goes off early for checking from behind and Stastny gets the PP goal. 5 minutes later Gartner scores to make it 2-0 Rats. But recent call-up, Steve Vickers gets 2 goals (one in the last minute) to tie the game at 2-2 as the 1st period ends.
2nd period Smith gets an even-strength goal just past midway to put Brooklyn up 3-2. Then Sutter and Osborne each score on the PP with in the next 4 minutes and Brooklyn skates off with a 5-2 lead after 2.
In period 3, Gustafsson scores the Rats 4th PP goal 7 minutes in and ices the cake at 6-2. But then strange things happen. Lukowich scores for the Foresters with 4 1/2 to go. Then with just over 1 minute – Greschner scores and it’s 6-4. Then with 19 seconds left Howatt scores and it’s 6-5. Vermont wants skate 12 for the last 19 seconds – but can’t, and Millen finds a way to hold them off to preserve a 6-5 Harbor Rats win.
STARS:
1. VER – Vickers 2 goals (we’re a B&J Arena, or course VER will get 1st star if possible) – and a win would have been free ice cream!
2. BRO – Gartner 1 goal, 2 assists
3. BRO – Stastny 1 goal, 2 assists
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Vermont goes 1-1 at home as the cement gets firmer on last place in the Smythe division.
CapJack Rangers
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Rangers have 1 home game this week in their attempt to hold the Patrick top spot.
Vermont Foresters @ CapJack Rangers Rangers win this one, barely, and it was probably due in great part to their efforts in the face-off circle where they won 71.2% of the drops! They won 37 of the 52 encounters with Trottier winning 20 of them.
Vermont breaks out to quick 1-0 lead with McCourt scores a minute and a half in. Ruotsalainen makes it 2-0 with 5 1/2 to go in the 1st. But then the Rangers get 2 goals in 32 seconds with 4 minutes to go – Trottier and Shutt – and the 1st ends 2-2.
Trottier then gets his 2nd goal of the game in the 2nd and makes it 3-2 CapJack, but Vermont ties it up on the games on PP goal by Foligno and the 2nd period ends 3-3.
Dale McCourt then gets his 2nd goal of the game 7 minutes into the 3rd and the Foresters lumber their way to a 4-3 lead. But midway through the period, Chris Valentine finally getting some ice time after coming to CapJack scores the equalizer giving the two team 10 minutes to see if they can break the 4-4 tie. And with just less than 4 minutes to go, Palmer gets one past Brodeur making it 5-4 Rangers. And Dion holds off the 5 and 6 man attackers from tree land to preserve the 5-4 Rangers win.
STARS:
1. CAP – Trottier 2 goals (20 faceoffs)
2. VER – McCourt 2 goals
3. CAP – Shutt 1 goal, 1 assist
Vermont’s Pat Hughes did manage to get 18 minutes of penalties – but the Foresters were able to stop all three PPs. And Hughes accounted for all 18 minutes of Vermont penalties, 4 minors + MC
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Rangers clinging to 1 point lead in the Smythe get a win in their only home game this week.
Charlestown Chiefs
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Three home games as we jockey for playoff position.
New Castle Ducks @ Charlestown Chiefs If you like goals, this game had ’em. 15 in fact. The bad news? 9 of the 16 came off of New Castle sticks. Resch is sent to a rare early shower after barely stopping 50% of New castle shots. Riggin’s 80% save rate looks HOF worthy in comparison.

The lone bright spot for the Chiefs – Paul Gardner becomes the first 50 goal scorer in Charlestown history. Too bad his career soon goes into the toilet.

Pittsburgh Spirit @ Charlestown Chiefs Normally the Battle of the Brothers ™ would be a bigger deal, but the teams are headed in different directions at this point of the season. Still, it has the makings of the classic trap game. The Chiefs avoid the snare, winning it 6-3, with ex-Spirit blueliner Willie Huber scoring a pair against his former team.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Two things are certain: Charlestown can score a lot of goals, and Charlestown likes to give up a lot of goals.
Brooklyn Harbor Rats
WEEKLY PREVIEW: one home game this week but it’s HUGE. Brooklyn trails Capjack by only a point in the Patrick Division race and also trails Silk City by just a point for the final Campbell Conference playoff spot.
Silk City Whales @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats Rats goalie Greg Millen comes out and absolutely shits the bed on this one. He allows 2 of the first 3 shots he faces in, 3 of the first 6, and ends the game by allowing the Whales to score 8 times on 24 shots. Silk City also converts on all 3 of the power-play chances while stymieing the Rats on 5 man advantages. Al Jensen stops 29 Brooklyn shots in the 8-2 Silk City win. Jim Peplinski and Mike Bullard each score a pair of goals for the visitors.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Brooklyn fans left the arena in disgust after this performance, with one fan tossing several pieces of cheese onto the ice.
Saint Clair Shores Saints
WEEKLY PREVIEW: The Saints play host to New Castle.
New Castle Ducks @ Saint Clair Shores Saints Bourne scores early in the game for the Ducks. The Saints tied it up on Cameron’s 9th goal of the year. In the 2nd, Bourne scores his 2nd goal of the game. Then, Middleton scores his 47th.

New Castle 3 SCS 1

1st – Bourne
2nd – Middleton
3rd – Cameron

WEEKLY SUMMARY: New Castle defeats SCS 3-1.
Silk City Whales
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Three home games this week as the Whales are racing down to the wire in an effort to make the playoffs for the first time.
Syracuse Bulldogs @ Silk City Whales The Whales come out flat as the Bulldogs dominate the first two periods. limiting the Whales to 10 shots on goal but yet Silk City leads 2-1. In the third third, Syracuse gets the tying goal from Al MacAdam and Neal Broten’s goal with 43 seconds left gives Syracuse a 3-2 lead. But the Whales pull goaltender Bob Sauve and during the 6 on 5, ties the game with 7 seconds remaining to give Silk City a 3-3 tie.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Silk City wins twice and gains a tie at home this week. Combined with the win on the road in Brooklyn, the Whales get seven out of eight points available in the tight playoff race. Rick Kehoe becomes the first player in franchise history to have a one hundred point season.
Mackinac Island Moose
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Just one home game fo the Moose this week, against the Bulldogs.
Syracuse Bulldogs @ Mackinac Island Moose Moose 7, Bulldogs 1 – Moose come out hard and fast, jumping to a 3 goal lead in the first 13 minutes. Goals by Kurri twice and Smyl. The lone Bulldog goal comes late in the first with Fraser getting one close in. Before the 1st period ends, the Moose respond with a goal by MacLean. It’s 4-1 heading to intermission.

Meloche is perfect after that, stopping 23 more Bulldog shots. Meanwhile, Smyl, Barber, and Kurri (hat trick) add 3 more goals to make the final 7-1.

1st star = Kurri 3G hat trick
2nd – Smyl 2G
3rd – Barber 1G 3 pts

WEEKLY SUMMARY: As good as it can get with a win in the only home game. With only 4 home games in the final 14 to go, not looking like a good chance to overtake Philly, and hope to stay ahead of those 89’ers.
Ohio Legends
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Two teams slugging it out to try to catch the final playoff spot collide at Legends Arena
Chicago Underground @ Ohio Legends Chicago 5, Ohio 4

Gary McAdam’s sixth goal of the season with 43 seconds remaining broke a 4-4 tie and gave Chicago tow very important standings points.

Denis Savard netted two important first-period goals (29,30) to give the Underground a commanding 3-0 edge at the first intermission.

Blair Chapman scored a pair of second-period goals (4, 5) to get the Legends started and after two periods it was a 3-3 game.

Ohio briefly held a 4-3 lead before Peter Stastny’s power-play goal (36) just past the midway point knotted the game up and set the stage for McAdam’s heroics.

Richard Sevigny stopped 28 in picking up the win, while Glen Hanlon turned away 16 in the defeat.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Ohio loses its only home game of the week and in the process, most likely was eliminated from the postseason.

Philadelphia Firebirds
WEEKLY PREVIEW: Delray The Mack and St Clair come to Philly
Delray Alpha @ Philadelphia Firebirds Philly up 6-3 in the 3rd. 10 minutes to go and we are feeling pretty good about ourselves I mean Wamsley is a 9.0 Parro is a 6.9 pretty even teams what could happen right???? Sutter gets his 15th 6-4 Philly meh we got this. Sutter gets his 16th and Coach Brenners ass puckers….minutes later Cicerelli gets his 63rd from Maloney and Gringras and Coach Brenner is fed up with the game and the way it handles goalies..is quitting hates life and wishes he had a bigger dick….but the Bridgeman bangs a puck off the boards and JP Kelly breaks in on Parro and slides in his THIRD of the season

Philly 7 Delray 6

Shots Philly 51- Delray 25 yea the goalie portion of the game works great

01. Hartsburg 1G 4 Pts
02. Sutter 2G
03. Cicerelli 2G

Mackinac Island Moose @ Philadelphia Firebirds The Mack come to town and even though they are behind Philly in Points are a better team. Melanson vs Herron.

1st – The game starts with a brawl Propp takes on Linseman and then GOALIE FIGHT as Melanson kicks the little Denis Herrons ass. After the fight Tom Lysiak gets his 31st from Park/Kurri . Lindstrom ties it up with his 33rd from Dionne /Secord

Id like to say it was tight after that but Philly went on to score 6 unanswered goals and Herron stopped The Mack on every attack

Maruk got his 66 and 67th, Carlyle and Hartsburg both got breakaway goals and Ramsey got his 8th .

The Mack come back in a week and will be a tough out in the playoffs …This was not their night

Saint Clair Shores Saints @ Philadelphia Firebirds Philly wins 4-1 as Tonelli gets his 20 and 21st and Maruk gets 68 and 69 both PP goals and Beaupre was the 3rd star…who knew he could star???
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Biggest week for Philly since the opening of the season. Delray and The Mack are top teams. But more important Philly finally got good goaltending from Herron and Beaupre!
Charlotte Dynamo
WEEKLY PREVIEW: (Forgive the short writeup as I squeeze this in during a crazy week). Charlotte, playing out the string, hosted a playoff-bound Charlestown squad that is trying to capture the Smythe in its lone home game this week.
Charlestown Chiefs @ Charlotte Dynamo Charlestown shakes off a Glenn Anderson goal 26 seconds into the game, scored four unanswered goals later in the first period and hangs on for a 5-4 win. Paul Gardner scores two goals early in the first period to erase the early deficit and give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead, an advantage they would never relinquish. Two more consecutive goals came from Thomas Gradin in putting the Chiefs ahead 4-1 with 3:30 left in the opening period. A late Normand Leveille Charlotte goal with 1:08 left in the game made the score closer, but rally efforts late in the game by the Dynamo fell short. Chico Resch saved 34 for Charlestown in outplaying Vincent Tremblay.
WEEKLY SUMMARY: Stay safe everyone!
Delray Alpha
WEEKLY PREVIEW: 2 games this week against Brooklyn and Charlotte
Brooklyn Harbor Rats @ Delray Alpha Brooklyn 3 – Del Ray 3

Brooklyn gets three goals in the first period and was cruising along until Delray exploded for three goals in the third period to tie the game, the last with 13 seconds remaining

Charlotte Dynamo @ Delray Alpha Charlotte 3 – Delray 2

Charlotte gets a goal from Simmer with 5:11 left in the third to escape with the upset win on the road.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: Delray goes 0-1-1 in a disappointing week
