PAUL COFFEY GOES #1 TO CHARLESTOWN CHIEFS

Charlestown ChiefsIt actually was a very tough call between Jari Kurri, Paul Coffey, Peter Stastny, & Larry Murphy.  But the Charlestown Chiefs are already STACKED on Defense with Ray Bourque, Denis Potvin, Mike McEwen, & Curt Giles.   They are also DEEP at Right Wing with Lanny McDonald, Mario Tremblay, Wilf Paiement, & Tom McCarthy.   Very solid at the Center position with Ken Linseman, Thomas Gradin, Andre Savard, & Paul Gardner.  Their Left Wing situation is mostly empty.  But Left Wing is the weakest position in the draft.

Paul_Coffey80DraftSo what’s a team like the Chiefs to do?   Plus the question always is “Who OWWWWNNNNNS the Chiefs?”….   Well John Niespodzianski was the one with the tough choice.   But how could John pass up a one-of-a-kind talent that makes playing the game fun (and maddening).   With the first selection in 1980 MWOTHL Draft, the Charlestown Chiefs welcome in Paul Coffey!

Coffey reached for comment said  “You just didn’t know [where’d you’d go], but it was exciting to get drafted. Especially #1 to the Chiefs.   There’s no advice. I’m just going to show up and do my best.”  “There’s a lot of great players in this 1980 MWOTHL Draft. The only thing guaranteed is we are all going to get to play in the Mid-West Old Tyme Hockey League this next season & I am sure just like me, all of us can’t wait to play.”
