CapJack Rangers
Weekly Preview: Due to blow out substitutions, the Rangers found themselves needing to start Wayne Thomas in net for the 2 home games this week as both Bouchard and Smith would have ended up 1 game over their limits. Keeping fingers crossed, the Rangers ended up 1-1 in the two games. Though Thomas did not really do poorly – the offense failed to show up for 1 game.
San Diego Mariners @ CapJack Rangers Perreault (30) started the scoring with shot setup by Charlie Simmer near the midpoint of period 1. Douglas (27) ties it early in the 2nd. In the 3rd Simmer and Perreault team up again, this time setting up Holmgrem (30) for what proves to be the winning goal. But Mulvey (9) wanted to be sure and he drives one in the net 4 minutes later for a 3-1 lead. And despite the relentless 3rd period assault by the Rangers, Sevigny turned them all back. He ended up with 39 saves! Another notable for the Mariners – Bulley 15 penalty minutes – how appropriate. Gets worse – he got the 5 minute major and GAME at the 18:33 mark of period 3 (15 minutes of penalties but only 1:27 left in the game).
STARS: ALL SDM
1. Sevigny 39 saves
2. Perreault 1 goal, 1 assist
3. TIE (my choice): Holmgrem 1 goal Simmer 2 assists
Charlestown Chiefs @ CapJack Rangers Rangers not happy about the last home loss take it out on the Chiefs. Shutt (51, 52) gets two in the 1st. Esposito (23) gets 1 in the 2nd and Douglas (28) and Trottier (44) get goals in the 3rd. Then they give up a goal to Bourque (15) with less than 4 to go and skate to 5-1 win.
STARS: ALL CAP
1. Shutt 2 goals
2. Robinson 3 assists
3. Esposito 1 goal
Weekly Summary: Well 1-1 at home won’t help much against the mounting Spirit of Pittsburgh but a nod to Thomas for filling in well in the net.

Vermont Foresters
Weekly Preview: one home game for the foresters this week hosting the tough capjack rangers
CapJack Rangers @ Vermont Foresters vermonts only home game of the week will see glen hanlon in net for a rare home start. vermont does not like the matchup against capjack and the 1st period showed why. capjack scored twice in the 1st 3:24 with deblois and douglas finding the back of the net. they held that lead until late in the period when reggie leach scored his 39th to cut the lead in half to 2-1. the 1st period was evenly played with capjack holding a 14-13 edge in shots on goal. the second period saw vermont take control and dominate with a 15-5 edge in sog but neither team was able to score and capjack headed into the 3rd period still holding a 2-1 lead. the 3rd period saw a lot of action, starting with eric vail tying the game with his 21st goal of the year just 3:26 into the period. macmillan gave the visitors the lead again less then 2 minutes later with his 13th. the rangers held the lead for 7 minutes until dale mccourt tied the game again at 3 with his 29th of the year. just over 3 minutes later at the 15:28 mark, murdoch scored his 19th of the year for a 4-3 ranger lead. vermont started pressing and less then 90 seconds later, reggie leach scored his 2nd of the game and 40th of the year to tie the game again at 4 with just over 3 minutes left. the game looked to be headed for a tie until mark howe unleashed a laser beam with 31 seconds left to give the foresters their first lead of the game and the 5-4 victory. leach had 2 goals and dale mccourt 1g and 2a.
Weekly Summary: a great come from behind victory for the foresters versus a team they dont match up well against

Biloxi Blades @ Syracuse Bulldogs Bulldogs Blank Biloxi 4-0

Charlestown Chiefs
Weekly Preview: ATTN: San Diego,Pittsburgh,CapJack: Please don’t load this file until you’ve played our games. I made lineup changes for some players as I’m tight on limits; don’t want those changes to be loaded for our road games this week. Thanks!
Vermont Foresters @ Charlestown Chiefs Charlestown builds a 3-1 lead early in the 3rd only to watch it evaporate into a 3-3 tie.

Ruskowski has a produtive old school game, scoring a goal and 12 PIM.

Weekly Summary: You can beat us, you can tie us, but you’ll never out-PIM us…

Saskatoon Cyclone
Weekly Preview: Twelve games to go for Saskatoon to try and claw their way closer to .500 but this week last place Silk City and first-place Vermont try and get in our way.
Silk City Whales @ Saskatoon Cyclone The game between Silk City and Saskatoon was a close one on paper but the scoreboard told a different story.
The Cyclone scored five consecutive goals to head into the 3rd period with a 5-0 lead with the power play clicking (2/6 on the day) and Rogie Vachon playing his heart out to try and earn his first shutout of the season.
Ken Houston of Silk City was called for tripping at 18:53 of the 3rd period and it seemed like Rogie’s shutout was in the bag.
It was not to be though as Whales’ forward Bob Bourne picked off a cross ice pass and sent Paul Woods in alone on Vachon and bingo. Woods lifted the puck over Vachon’s left pad and into the net and gone went the shutout on a short-handed goal.
Saskatoon outshot Silk City 32-26 but the teams were nearly dead even at 50-49 in favor of Saskatoon in shot attempts.
Highlights of the game included a sucker punch by Sutter on Saskatoon defenceman David Shand with Sutter winning the ensuing scuffle handily. As a reward, he was given a game misconduct. Nicely done.

Vermont Foresters @ Saskatoon Cyclone The Cyclone hoped that booking Saskatoon’s annual death metal festival in the same hotel as the Foresters were staying would help them out when they took to the ice the next day …
Special teams played a key part in what proved to be a close but wide open game.
Morris Luckowich got things started at 5:58 of the 1st period by batting a puck out of mid-air past Rogie Vachon while Lindy Ruff was in the box for checking from behind.
Dave Taylor evened things up with his 40th of the season exactly six minutes later while Pat Price was off for tripping.
The first period ended tied 1-1 with shots at 14-13 favoring Vermont. Yeah … it was close.
Vermont started the second period trying to kill off Mike Foligno’s hooking penalty and once again special teams came through for Saskatoon as Mr. Gretzky blasted a slapshot from the blueline stick side past Glen Hanlon to give Saskatoon the temporary lead 2-1.
About six minutes later, Gretzky once again got involved in the play poking a puck loose from a scrum and feeding it into the slot for Taylor who fired home a wristshot through Hanlon’s legs to extend the lead to 3-1.
Bobby Lalonde’s hooking penalty for Vermont late in the 2nd period turned out to be a key turning point in the game.
With the Cyclone pressing deep in the zone and Gretzky set up behind the Foresters’ net, Vermont defenceman Mark Howe ran over Brent Ashton and stole the puck, raced down the ice and deked out Vachon for a short-handed marker to make it 3-2.
Once again, Vermont opened a period short-handed and in a very similar situation to the dying moments of the 2nd period it was none other than Don Luce whose ‘fro got in the face of Dave Maloney, momentarily blinding him. Luce took advantage of Maloney’s situation stole the puck and bore down on Vachon finishing it off with a snap shot that beat him high and tied it 3-3 with nearly a whole period to play.
Two short-handed goals on the same Saskatoon power play … for f@#@# sake … really?
The rest of the 3rd period was basically a case of Vermont flooding across the Saskatoon blue line, firing a shot or two at Vachon and then eventually once a Cyclone player found himself with the puck he cleared it out to the blueline.
This seemed to go on for about 15 minutes by which time the Foresters had already fired almost 20 shots in the period on Vachon.
One of these clearing shots eluded Vermont defenceman Ron Stackhouse and Gretzky and Company raced up ice for a rare offensive opportunity. Gretzky was checked off the puck by Foligno who was then trampled by Cyclone defenceman Barry Melrose sending the outraged Foresters bench to its feet. Melrose slid the puck over to Taylor who rifled a pass to Gretzky and with a one-timer fired the puck up and over Hanlon’s shoulder for his second goal of the game which made it 4-3 with a couple of minutes to go.
Hanlon scrambled to the bench with just over a minute left but the Foresters spent the bulk of their man advantage just trying to keep Gretzky from getting a hat trick on the empty net and that was all she wrote.
Saskatoon wins a wild one 4-3 despite being outshot 49-35. Ron Wilson won 18 faceoffs in the game with Gretzky taking 15 as the Cyclone at least dominated in that one category with almost a 60% success rate.
Shockingly only the Gretzky line showed up to play but in this case it was enough.
