HOME TEAM FOR GAME FILE ATTACHED
Weekly Preview: The Whales come home for three big games this week, hosting division leaders Vermont and Pittsburgh as well as rival Brooklyn.
Brooklyn Harbor Rats @ Silk City Whales The Whales take an early 1-0 lead and things get testy. At the 5:20 mark of the first period, Silk City’s Perry Turnbull jumps Brooklyn’s Bengt-Ake Gustafsson and a melee breaks out. After peace is restored, all ten skaters get major penalties for fighting; Mike Gartner and Billy Harris are tossed from the game. As for the game, Silk City scores three third period goals to erase a deficit and hold on for a 4-3 win.

Mackinac Island Moose
Weekly Preview: Saint Croix and Philadelphia take the ferry across the channel to visit the Moose on the Island. Philadelphia sits in the conference just one point behind Mackinac Island while Saint Croix sits at the top of the division a healthy 24 points ahead of the Moose. Odds makers have the Philly game a pick’em, while Saint Croix is a 1-1/2 goal favorite.
Saint Croix Falls Lumberjacks @ Mackinac Island Moose Moose 7, Lumberjacks 3 – Hopefully you took the home dog in this one. The Moose are unstoppable in the first period with 4 goals, Lysiak, Lever, Larson and Ferguson. In one of the more interesting sequences, the puck hog Mulvey somehow shot from the point, followed by a wraparound, then another slapper, then another wraparound, and finally one more slapper, all stopped by Meloche, all in less than 20 seconds. All 5 shots by Mulvey.

In the second period, the Moose add 2 more to make it 6-0 before the Lumberjacks take off their girly clothes and get back in the woods chopping. In the final 25 minutes the boys get 3 goals in to one more for the Moose, and the game ends 7-3. Fans go home happy as the final score nets them free fudge at Rocky and Bullwinkles. And as they left the game, singing the famed Lumberjack song:

Thanks to Monty Python.

I’m a lumberjack and I’m OK
I sleep all night and I work all day
He’s a lumberjack and he’s OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day
I cut down trees, I eat my lunch
I go to the lavatory
On Wednesdays I go shopping and have buttered scones for tea
He cuts down trees, he eat his lunch
He goes to the lavatory
On Wednesdays he goes shopping and has buttered scones for tea
I’m a lumberjack and I’m OK
I sleep all night and I work all day
I cut down trees, I skip and jump
I like to press wild flowers
I put on women’s clothing and hang around in bars
He cuts down trees, he skips and jumps
He likes to press wild flowers
He puts on women’s clothing and hangs around in bars
I’m a lumberjack and I’m OK
I sleep all night and I work all day
I cut down trees, I wear high heels
Suspendies and a bra
I wish I’d been a girlie, just like my dear Papa
He cuts down trees, he wears high heels?
Suspendies and a bra?
He’s a lumberjack and he’s OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day
He’s a lumberjack and he’s OK
Sleeps all night and he works all day

Philadelphia Firebirds @ Mackinac Island Moose Moose 3, Firebirds 0 – Meloche rules in this game, stopping 26 shots. For Philly, Stephenson also plays a good game, stopping the first 27 in a row. Then with the game at 0-0 early in the 3rd, McKechnie gets a steal and rush on the PK to break the tie. And then later in the period, the Moose take advantage of penalties by Siltanen and Carlyle to add 2 more goals by Napier and Larson and make it a total of 3 for the home team. More happy ticketholder as the shutout win means free waffles down at Boris and Natasha’s Waffle House. Get there early. Engblom 10 hits, Park 9 hits

2nd star – McKechnie 1g1a
3rd star – Larson 1g

Best visitor performance – Robert 1g1a, Williams 1g1a

Moose – Larson 2g 2a 4 pts in 2 games – Meloche 2 wins, 1.5 gaa, 1 shutout

Pittsburgh Spirit
Weekly Preview: Spirit is in “last place” in the Patrick which is only 1 point from first place! SUPER competitive division!!
Charlestown Chiefs @ Pittsburgh Spirit The Spirit lick their lips as the “Bruiser Losers” make their way to Pittsburgh for a little brotherly rivalry.

This one was never really in doubt. Spirit win 7-4. Not as “close” as it looked.

Game #2 – Home Team: Pittsburgh Spirit
CapJack Rangers @ Pittsburgh Spirit Division rival CapJack Rangers come to town… will CapJack get us high tonight? Let’s see…

A seriously back and forth evenly fought game. LaFleur finally finding his scoring touch with a hat trick. He should be playing WAY better than his numbers. An anomaly.

Pittsburgh looks to be cruising to a 6-5 win but with the goalie pulled CapJack scores with 31 seconds remaining to seal the 6-6 tie.

Weekly Summary: Two home games. One win, one tie. Not bad, but needed to beat Division Rival CapJack. With such a close division the ONLY way to gain ground is to beat divisional opponents head on.

Looks to be very interesting down the stretch!

HOME TEAM FOR GAME FILE ATTACHED
Weekly Preview: Hosting SD and Charlestown this week. 0-3 against San Diego so far, 3-0 against the Chiefs
San Diego Mariners @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats Bobby Smith (1-3-4) helps the Rats open a 5-1 lead through 2 periods before the Mariners come hard in the 3rd, firing 14 shots, scoring 2 goals and getting the extra attacker on as the clock winds down. But Greg Millen held up for the 5-3 Brooklyn win, stopping 25 shots for his 17th win.
Charlestown Chiefs @ Brooklyn Harbor Rats Pat Hickey scores a pair in the first period, Bobby Smith stretches the lead to 3-0 to begin the 3rd, and once again the Rats hang on desperately as the Chiefs score twice in the final five minutes to make it a one goal game and Mike Palmateer stops 21 shots in the final 20 minutes, 35 for the game and a 3-3 Harbor Rats win.
Weekly Summary: 4 points in a pair of home games, including our first win of the season against division rival San Diego

CapJack Rangers
Weekly Preview: Patrick Division going into this week has all four teams with 56 points! Every game for a Patrick team is important. Rangers only get 1 home game this week and it’s against the Charlestown Chiefs. With echos of “Ooh, and it’s alright and it’s coming along
We gotta get right back to where we started from” going through our heads, what will the game entail – hopefully no moons!
Charlestown Chiefs @ CapJack Rangers Well the Rangers didn’t let a song or hi-jinks spoil the day. And like Chicago voters, they scored early and often (and they were all legal to boot). Trottier and Lapointe in the 1st, Trottier in the 2nd, and then DeBlois, Robinson, and Gare in the 3rd. Only thing spoiling a 6-0 shutout by Smith was Bourque popping one in with 7 seconds left. Rangers even get 2 PP goals (they had 7 chances).
STARS (ALL CAP)
1. Trottier 2 goals, 1 assist (18 Faceoffs won)
2. Robinson 1 goal, 2 assists
3. Smith 29 saves

Brooklyn Harbor Rats @ Vermont Foresters vermont turns to mike veisor to man the net against mike palmateer and the rats from brooklyn. the decision doesnt look to good when hickey nets his 24th goal 6:38 into the game for a 1-0 lead. bob murray scores his 7th 2:20 later to tie the game at 1. murray gets his 2nd of the game with 2:55 left in the 1st to give the home team a 2-1 lead. dale mccourt scored his 21st at 14:13 of the 2nd for a 3-1 lead. reggie leach gets his 24th 2:51 into the 3rd on the powerplay for a 4-1 lead. mike veisor doesnt allow another goal and the foresters have a dominating performance for the 4-1 victory.

St. Clair Shores Saints
Weekly Preview: Saints play three at home against Chicago, Quebec City, and Saint Croix.
Chicago Underground @ St. Clair Shores Saints SCS outshoots Chicago, 32-26, but Chicago is more effective with its shots. Chicago scores 4 straight goals during the 1st and 2nd periods. Low only saves 80.8 % of the shots. Clark Gillies scores the game winning goal.

Weekly Summary: Both Chicago and Saint Croix defeat the Saints. In the middle game, the Saints beat Quebec in a shutout.

Charlestown Chiefs
Game #1 – Home Team: Charlestown Chiefs
Saskatoon Cyclone @ Charlestown Chiefs Saskatoon and some stiff named Gretzky come to town and leave with a 4-2 victory. I don’t know what folks see in that skinny #99 — he couldn’t score one stinkin’ goal on Pat Riggin; he only accumulated 4 lousy assists. And he only won 7 of 15 faceoffs. Bum.
Weekly Summary: One game at home, zero points. Good thing Carnac the Magnificent is a team consultant, so we can see the future.

Saint Croix Falls Lumberjacks
Philadelphia Firebirds @ Saint Croix Falls Lumberjacks Lumberjacks lose this one
Chicago Underground @ Saint Croix Falls Lumberjacks Lumberjacks shutout the Underground 5-0
Weekly Summary: One win and one loss
