MWHL Fun Facts

The MWHL just finished its 5th prospect draft of upcoming talent. An exciting event that occurs each season. Teams try to find lightning in a bottle and fuel their team to success.

In 5 years, 143 hopefuls have been drafted.

40 of those are still in prospect status, waiting their call to the MWHL.

38 have failed to stay with their team and either have gone back to the minors, or moved on to other career paths.

37 have moved up and are in their first rookie contract.

The best 28 have served out their rookie contracts and are now in their 1st normal contract, getting major minutes on the slippery sheet.

Notable success stories, both for the player and team include:

Auston Matthew, originally drafted by Corktown, now playing for JAGR, with 285 points in 282 NHL games

Mitch Marner, drafted by New Jersey Grizzleys, now playing for CHARLOTTE, with 291 points in 300 NHL games

Matthew Tkachuk, drafted by the Minneapolis, now playing for JAGR, with 235 points in 293 NHL games

Patrik Laine, drafted by Jagr, now playing for CINCINNATI, with 247 points in 305 NHL games

Mathew Barzal, drafted by, and still playing for CALIFORNIA, with 207 points in 234 NHL games.

Alex DeBrincat, drafted by and still playing for CHICAGO, with 173 points in 234 NHL games.

Elias Pettersson, drafted by and still playing for TOLEDO, with 132 points in 139 NHL games.

Cole Makar,  drafted by Clearfield, now playing for GILBERT, with 50 points in 57 NHL games.

Quinn Hughes, drafted by Long Beach, now playing for THUNDER BAY, with 56 points in 73 NHL games.

Carter Hart, drafted by Cincinnati, now playing for NEW JERSEY, with a 40-26-4 record, 2.59 GAA, and 0.915% SV in  74 NHL games.
