Cincinnati Inferno
Weekly Preview: Inferno look to try to escape last place in the Atlantic Division with home games against Gilbert and Charlotte.
Gilbert Sharks @ Cincinnati Inferno Cincinnati comes out flying, ready to attack the Sharks and put them in their place! Mark Stone starts the party 1:30 in the contest beating Cam Ward stick side low–his second goal of the year with David Perron and Williams Karlsson collecting the helpers.

Then, the music got cut off and the Inferno did not sniff the back of the net the rest of the day.

Gilbert would tie the game up with 16.1 seconds left in the opening stanza, as Andrew Cogliano would dent the twine to even things up after the opening fram.

In the second, the Sharks did the partying–getting goals from Derek Engeland (2:42-his first, going low glove side), Tyler Ennis (9:13-his first, on a tip-in) and Oscar Kiefbom (13:52-his first-also glove side low). The game could have gotten really ugly, but Cincinnati was able to kill off a late five minute major penalty to hold the score. But they were not able to answer after that.

Cam Ward came up big with 27 saves in the win, while Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 24 in the loss. The key stat in the game was the power play advantage time, which favored the Buzzards, 8:31 to 1:53.

Final score: Gilbert 4, Cincinnati 1

Charlotte Buzzards @ Cincinnati Inferno Mark Stone kicks things off by side-stepping a defenseman and letting loose with a shot just 4:50 in to give Cincinnati a 1-0 edge. David Perron and William Karlsson assisting. A bit more than six minutes later, Joe Pavelski notched his third goal, cashing in after Craig Smith created a turnover. The opening period ended tied at one apiece.

In the second, Henrik Zetterberg finished off a two-on-one rush with Milan Lucic to victimize Sergei Bobrovsky with his third goal of the campaign at 12:47 and the Buzzards held a 2-1 edge after 40 minutes.

Cincinnati tied the game at 4:33 of the third, as Sidney Crosby finished off a turnover from Brock Boesser for his second lamplighter of the year. The game winning goal in this one came off the stick of Matthew Tkachuk, his fifth of the year, re-directing a shot from Alexander Edler and also from Boesser. Justin Faulk’s second score of the season at 12:55 closed the scoring, as his power play shot from the left point eluded everyone. Perron and Stone added the helpers on the goal.

Bobrovsky picked up the win with 31 saves, while Aanti Raanta took the loss, kicking away 23 shots. The eye-popping stat in this one was the blocked shots, where the Inferno cooked the Buzzards by a 22-1 edge. The hits also favored Cincinnati, 27-17.

Weekly Summary: Two points on home ice is not usually appetizing, but to the offensive-challenged Cincinnati Inferno, it is a fitting end to the week. Mark Stone was the offensive hero of the week–collecting two goals and an assist to help provide 60% of the Inferno’s offense.
Long Beach Ice Dogs
Guentzel Gunners @ Long Beach Ice Dogs Guentzel jumped out to a 3-2 lead in a high scoring 1st period. It was still 3-2 when Guentzel scored 2 minutes into the 3rd period for a 4-2 lead. Long Beach kept the pressure, on out shooting Guentzel 13-2 in the 3rd period, and cut it to 4-3 on a Gallagher goal with 7 minutes left. They pulled the goalie with 2 minutes left and Stamkos scored the tying goal at 18:20. After a scoreless OT, Gallagher netted the winning goal in a shoot out to give the Ice Dogs a 5-4 win.

1st star: Zuccarello
2nd star: Palat
3rd star: Guentzel

Brentwood Bandits @ Long Beach Ice Dogs After a scoreless 1st period the teams traded goals in the 2nd period. Kessell scored 2 minutes into the 3rd to give Brentwood a 2-1 lead. That was still the score when Long Beach pulled the goalie and kept the pressure on Gibson. He stood tall until Gallagher scored the tying goal with 8 seconds left. In OT, Kessell netted his 2nd goal of the game 52 seconds in and Brentwood won 3-2. Gibson was huge in goal for Brentwood making 41 saves including 21 in the 3rd period.

1st star: Kessell
2nd star: Gibson
3rd star: Krug

Weekly Summary: After scoring 2 last minute goals with the goalie pulled, Long Beach picked up 3 points for the week.
Lafayette Homesteaders
Weekly Preview: Just one game in Tennessee this week as the Great Dames …err Danes come to town
LA Great Danes @ Lafayette Homesteaders This was the anderson show as he shut the Homesteaders down every chance.

1st – Vatanen (1)
2nd -Pietrangelo (5), Ehlers (3) with 3 seconds to go
3rd – Forsberg (5)

Alamo Defenders
Weekly Preview: Alamo takes on Jagr and Thunder Bay at home.
Jagr Mullets @ Alamo Defenders Jagr comes into the game with 14 points and Alamo has 6 points. In the 1st period, Blake Wheeler nets his 3rd goal of the season.

In the 2nd period, Alamo scores on a power play goal by Marchand. Two minutes later, Jagr scores on a Staal goal. Yandle closes out the 2nd period with an Alamo score. Its 3-1 after 2 periods.

With 1:05 left, Glendening scores on an empty netter to seal the win. Anderson plays well in goal for Alamo.

Alamo 4 Jagr 1

1st – Wheeler 1 goal, 1 assist
2nd – Anderson 30 assists
3rd – Marchand 1 goal 1 assist

Thunder Bay NorWesters @ Alamo Defenders Thunder Bay visits Alamo.

At 4:54, Marchand scores on a power play to put the Defenders up, 1-0.

The only goal in the 2nd was a Tanner Pearson goal for Alamo. Its 2-0 after 2.

In the 3rd, it gets interesting as O’Reilly scores for Thunder Bay to make it 2-1, Alamo. The Norwesters battle, but Seguin scores an empty netter with 34 seconds to go to insure the Defenders win.

Alamo 3 Thunder Bay 1

SOG: Alamo 44 Thunder Bay 26

1st – Marchand 1 goal 1 assist
2nd – Seguin 1 goal 1 assist
3rd – Anderson 25 saves

Weekly Summary: Alamo behind strong goaltending by Anderson wins both home games against Jagr and Thunder Bay.
Chicago Cosa Nostra
Weekly Preview: Chicago looking for big points at home this week & one of the games is huge with hated rival Yellowknife heading into Capone Center.
Yellowknife Braves @ Chicago Cosa Nostra Yellowstone goes crazy with 49 shots on goal & puts just two of those behind Jusse Saros of the Cosa Nostra. Chicago only manages 24 shots & only 1 of those in the 3rd Period of play. But Chicago prevails with the win!

Final Score: Chicago 3 – Yellowknife 2

3-Star Selections:
Star #1 – Jusse Saros – 49 Saves
Star #2 – Jonathan Toews – 1 Goal
Star #3 – Chris Kreider – 1 Goal

California Regulators @ Chicago Cosa Nostra California scores in the 1st & 3rd Periods – lone goals. Chicago nets 2 in the 2nd, and 2 in the 3rd. It was nice to have back on the ice in a Chicago jersey an original member of the Cosa Nostra – Dion Phaneuf.

Final Score: Chicago 4 – California 2

3-Star Selections:
Star #1 – Dion Phaneuf – 2 Goals
Star #2 – Ryan Nugent-Hopkins – 1 Goal, 2 Points
Star #3 – David Pastrnak – 1 Goal, 2 Points

Weekly Summary: Chicago nets 4 Points at home & actually played some of their best hockey of the year thus far.
LA Great Danes
Weekly Preview: Tough home schedule with 2 teams with elite talent coming to town – Cincinnati Inferno with Crosby, Boeser, and top-notch defense and goaltending, followed by the loaded Jagr team.
Cincinnati Inferno @ LA Great Danes Another slow start at home (goals against in the first minute of both home games last week) as the Inferno open with a couple of quick scoring chances and a 12-4 shot advantage in period 1. But the Danes defense holds up with 10 hits, 6 blocks, and solid goaltending from Casey DeSmith. The Danes take their 4th staight penalty midway through the 2nd, and Simmonds converts a PPG to give Cincy the 1-0 lead, and the period ends that way. A different Great Dane team comes out for the 3rd period – they get the period’s first 9 shots and continue to press and control play throughout the 3rd. DeSmith makes a key save on an Inferno 2 on 1 with 5 minutes left, and LA pulls the goalie with 1:26 remaining. BOOM – the Great Danes finally solve Carter Hutton when Tyler Toffoli ties it up with 45 seconds remaining. What a 3rd period for LA, outshooting Cincy 25-5. We go to a shootout, and Cincy takes control in round 2 on a Boeser goal. DeSmith again keeps LA alive with a key save, and Nikolaj Ehlers beats Hutton to extend the shootout. Mark Scheifele then wins it for the Danes on a backhand in round 4. The Danes steal a 2-1 shootout win.
Jagr Mullets @ LA Great Danes Halloween time – we see some travelling mullets in the crowd but more Scooby-Doo’s. Backup Casey DeSmith earns another start as he won his 3rd straight game against the Inferno. But maybe not a reward to face the Jagr crew. The Danes score early at 1:44 on a Hoffman goal, but the lead lasts less than a minute when Hinostroza ties it. The Danes open the 2nd with a PPG goal by Brayden Schenn and the scores stays 2-1 LA after 2. Period 2 was like period 3 versus Cincy – LA dominated with a 19-4 shot advantage. Toffoli scores 3 minutes into the 3rd for his 3rd point of the night and the Danes go up 3-1. The Danes strategy to stay on the offensive to neutralize the Jagr star power continues throughout the final period. Scheifele’s empty-net goal seals the win, and for good measure Pietrangelo beats Quick in the final seconds to close out a 5-1 win for the Great Danes. 20 more SOG in the 3rd, and LA ends up with a 52-22 shot advantage for the game.
Weekly Summary: Quite the week at home for the Great Danes, 2 big wins and 98 SOG. Second time the Danes have hit the 50 SOG mark this season, and 5th time with >40 SOG in 10 games. It’s a surprise but the lines are clicking right now. And Casey DeSmith has been red-hot to start the season, 2 GA for the week, and he’s now 4-0-0 on the season with a 1.72 GAA and .939 save %.
Jagr Mullets
Weekly Preview: Two home series this week, against Thunder Bay and Gilbert.
Thunder Bay NorWesters @ Jagr Mullets First up is Thunder Bay. The game starts slowly, with both teams feeling each other out. Finally, at 14:37 Connor (4) tickles the twine for Thunder Bay to take the 1-0 lead.

But then the wheels come off for Thunder Bay, as Connor cannot stay out of the sin bin: 3 penalties that lead to not one but TWO Jagr goals! So when we head to the locker room, it’s suddenly 4-1 Jagr after goals by Laine (5, 6), Kadri (3), and Ovechkin (6).

In the 3rd, Taylor Hall (4) scores at 1:56 to give the Mullets a 5-1 lead, but Thunder Bay makes it VERY interesting with an immediate response – goals by Landeskog (3) and Cuoturier (3) at 2:13 and 2:55 to suddenly close the deficit to two.

But the Mullets clamp down and keep the score static as they win it 5-3.

Jagr nearly doubles up Thunder Bay in shots (50-26), and had a severe edge in scoring chances (34-9), but the final score was still much too close for comfort.

Gilbert Sharks @ Jagr Mullets With some sloppy play early in the 3rd period of last game, how will the Mullets respond?

Splendidly.

Vasilevskiy is awarded the start after Quick’s recent struggles, and he stands on his head, stopping 39 of 39 shots for the shutout.

Jagr is actually out-shot 39-36 in this one, but had a big edge in scoring chances 19-9.

The Mullets have 5 different scorers in the 5-0 victory: Matthews (7), Ovechkin (7), Staal (2), Hall (5), and Roussel (1). The Rielly/Ekholm pairing is a +3 in the contest.

Columbus Brew Jackets
Weekly Preview: Brew Jackets at home for two hoping to get offense to be consistent and defense to stop goals.
Long Beach Ice Dogs @ Columbus Brew Jackets Game plan a success for the first game and it was effectively over before the Ice Dogs scored their first goal. Jackets get going with 2 goals in 1st and 2 more in the 2nd – and managed two PP goals along the way. 4-0 was the score going into the 3rd when Raffi and Matheson put shots into the Blue Jacket net, but Couture sends the home team happy when he nets one with a minute and a half to go to seal the deal. FINAL 5-2 Columbus
STARS: all Jackets
1. Kempe 1 goal, 1 assist
2. Holden 1 goal
3. Connauton 1 goal
Lafayette Homesteaders @ Columbus Brew Jackets Jackets looking to do it again and the 2nd game is also 5-2. But it was a bit different getting there. Bozak gets it going for the Homesteaders halfway into the 1st period, but 33 seconds later Hayes ties it up. Then Benn puts the home team up 2-1 5 1/2 minutes into period 2. Forsberg however, ties it up when he scores just past midway in the period. 2-2 after 2.

Third period starts and it’s tight until the midpoint in the period when the Homesteadres open up and light the board twice within a minute – Duchene and the Forsberg again! Jackets try to get back in the game and pull the goalie but Puljujarvi gets the empty-netter to finish the score and the final, like game 1 is 5-2 but this time the visitors are the winners – Lafayette!
STARS (all LAF)
1. Forsberg 2 goals
2. Puljujarvi 1 goal, 1 assist
3. Duchene 1 goal

Weekly Summary: 1-1, good offense, good defense in the 1st, poor offense, poor defense in the 2nd. Or maybe the other teams had a lot to do with it.
Bathgate Rangers
Weekly Preview: Rangers host Chicago and Alamo this week – should be a good set of games.
Chicago Cosa Nostra @ Bathgate Rangers Hornqvist gets things going a minute and a half in beating Miller on a wrist shot. Period ends 1-0 in an active game. Then period 2 and we get 6 total goals. 1st Chicago scores twice (Nugent-Hopkins and Galchenuk) and the Staal scores for Bathgate. Bailey scores to give Chicago the 3-2 lead but Subban responds to score and make it 3-3. Then with about 4 to go in the 2nd Copp checks Subban hard, scoops up the puck and becomes a 1 man show. Breakaway – gets past Provorov and Subban and shoots glove side high and beat Rinne for 4-3 Chicago lead.
3rd period the Rangers come out shooting, Cosa Nostra clamps down (only 5 SOG in the period) but their tight defense keeps Bathgate out of the net and 4-3 Chicago is the final score.
STARS (all CHI)
1. Galchenyuk 1 goal, 1 assist
2. Bailey 1 goal
3. Copp 1 goal
Notable – Miller with 31 saves
Alamo Defenders @ Bathgate Rangers Rangers need a comeback and come out – well they don’t come out firing in the next game – only 4 shots in the 1st. Alamo takes 11 – only 1 shot goes in and it was Shaw (1) 3 minutes into the game.
2nd period – Rangers take 8 shots and Defenders take 12 – but again, the only goal was a Ranger shot by Tierney (1) as Rinne stopped all the Alamo attempts that got to him.
3rd – period – Rangers up their attempts to 11 – but this time none of them go it. Alamo also ups their game – 15 attempts ON NET – Rinne for the 3rd period stops them ALL and Bathgate pulls out the 2-0 win. 21 blocked shots also help.
STARS (all BGR)
1. Rinne 38 saves
2. Tierney 1 goal 1 assist
3. Shaw 1 goal
Weekly Summary: Rangers continue to play decent, solid defense but are still weak on getting things into the opponents goal. Their defense provided them 1 win in 2 games as they continue to play .500 hockey.
California Regulators
Brentwood Bandits BWB — 3
CAL — 4Stars — Nelson (2 G), Eberle (1 G, 2 Pts), Jankowski (1 G, 2 Pts)
Yellowknife Braves YEL — 2
CAL — 1Stars — Fleury (30 saves), Rantanen (G), Malkin (G)
Weekly Summary: California splits the homestand
New Jersey Grizzlies
Weekly Preview: New Jersey is flying high. The Grizzlies have been hot this year finding the net during crunch time.
Charlotte Buzzards @ New Jersey Grizzlies After a wild 1st period trading goals, Coach Hynes was heard in the intermission stating “I hope we have it crystal (expletive) clear” That message was taking to heart midway through the second when Grizzlies got back in the lead. Charlotte was not going to roll over and die though. They battled back to tie the game. midway thru the third the Grizzlies long time veteran Victor Hedman was able to give them back the lead in which they were able to hold on and win 4-2.
Columbus Brew Jackets @ New Jersey Grizzlies This game was the first for Cory Schneider of the season at home. New Jersey saw this game as must win with a cross division team who will be there come playoff time. Columbus was strong on the puck for the whole game. The Grizzlies were never clearly in sync. This game was won purely on grit. The corners were tightly contested and the room was minimal. Leon Draisaitl popped in a late goal which sent this game into OT and eventually a shoot-out. It was young star Ondrej Kase who scored the only goal in the shootout to give NJ the win 3-2.
Weekly Summary: This week New Jersey was challenged hard in trying to keep up the torrid pace but it appears that teams are starting figure them out and the pressure is starting to mount. Next week will be tough run as New Jersey takes to the road for 3 game road trip.
Bucks County Racoons
Weekly Preview: The Racs host two California teams in California and Long Beach at the Racs Nest….
California Regulators @ Bucks County Racoons McDavid scores in the first and Keith in the 2nd and the Raccoons hold on for a 2-1 victory over the California Regulators. Reinhardt scored mid way thru the 3rd to cut the lead in half and the visitors poured it on over the last 10 minutes, out shooting the Racs by 15-4 in the period, but Jake Allen was spectacular in net (43 saves) and BC held on for the win.
Long Beach Ice Dogs @ Bucks County Racoons Long Beach took a 3-2 lead early in the 3rd on Stamkos’ first goal of the year, but Kane tied it up with his 4th of the season with 5:39 left, and the Racs scored twice in the shoot out to earn a 4-3 win over the visiting Ice Dogs. Timo Meir had 2 G’s for the winners……
Weekly Summary: Another solid home week for the Raccoons, although both games were tight until the end and could have gone either way. But they only went one way, thankfully for Bucks County.
Charlotte Buzzards
Weekly Preview: Charlotte gains some confidence with early success during its 2018-19 inception.
Lafayette Homesteaders @ Charlotte Buzzards Charlotte 2 Lafayette 0
Spearheaded by Anti Raanta’s 42 saves, Charlotte withstood a fierce Lafayette attack to emerge with a 2-0 shutout victory. Two late first period goals were all the Buzzards needed. They benefited from a Ruustu Ristolainen (2 blocks four hits) penalty to score on the powerplay with 2:28 left in the first period. Erik Johnson’s shot from the point found the net and beat Martin Jones in proving to be the game winner. Just moments later, with 52 seconds left in the period, Craig Smith scored, with Roman Hamonic and Joe Pavelski assisting. Lafayette outshot 30-11 in the final two periods but Raanta was up to the task in ckearkt earning first star honors.
Clearfield Bison @ Charlotte Buzzards Charlotte wins a goalie showdown and stuns Clearfield late. Connor Hellebuyck and Anti Raanta each dualed with shuthout bids into the third period. Clearfield’s Richard Rakell broke the scoreless tie 1:17 into the third period, but Hellebuyck (35 saves), saw his bid for the shutout — then the win, slip away late. Winger Craig Smith evened the game with 3:05 to play on a power play goal. Then just 16 seconds later, Ryan Dzingel scored the game winner, courtesy of a Dylan Larkin assist.
Weekly Summary: Charlotte wins both its home games , led by Raanta, who only gives up one goal in both contests in emerging as an MVP candidate.
Guentzel Gunners
Weekly Preview: Almost my bedtime so no long write up – I had 3 home games
New Jersey Grizzlies @ Guentzel Gunners NJ gets a shorthanded goal and a power play to win 4-3
Lafayette Homesteaders @ Guentzel Gunners Gunners take too many penalties and lose 5-2
Cincinnati Inferno @ Guentzel Gunners Boring loss for the home team 4-1
Weekly Summary: 0-3 week 🙁
Gilbert Sharks
Weekly Preview: Gilbert plays 2 home games in Block 3 against Clearfield and Bathgate.
Clearfield Bison @ Gilbert Sharks Gilbert starts the game with a goal from Adam Henrique just 2 minutes into the game. Clearfield strikes back with goals from Patrice Bergeron and Kevin Fiala to put Clearfield up 2-1 at the end of the first period. Rickard Rakell adds a goal in the 2nd and James Neal early in the 3rd. Derrick Brassard would score late for Gilbert but Clearfield gets the 4-2 victory.
Bathgate Rangers @ Gilbert Sharks PK Subban scores for Bathgate to gain a 1-0 lead in the first period but that would be it for Bathgate. Nathan Mackinnon led a Gilbert onslaught with 4 goals in the game. Cam Atkinson and Clayton Keller would add goals for Gilbert. Mackinnon would end the game with 5 points and Cam Atkinson would have 3. Artemi Panarin ends the game with 4 assists as the Gilbert 1st line dominates . Gilbert wins 6-1.
Weekly Summary: Gilbert continues their up and down year going 1-1 at home in Block 3.
Toledo Walleye
Weekly Preview: With a couple wins finally under their belts, the Walleye try to keep the momentum against Columbus and Bucks County.
Columbus Brew Jackets @ Toledo Walleye Toledo 6, Columbus 5 – The game started, and then quickly stopped, when a power failure hit the arena at 2 minutes into the game. The players collected back at center ice, a new face-off, and off we went.

A flurry of goals midway through the 1st put Toledo up 2 (Krejci, Daley) to 1 (Burns). And then late in the same period the teams traded goals (Foligno and Kucherov) to end the period at 3-2 Walleye.

Much quieter in the 2nd with only one goal, but important, because it tied it up at 3 thanks to Benn.

Toledo takes the lead with a goal by Anisimov midway through the 3rd, and then a flurry of goals in the last 3 minutes, first Hayes ties it at 4, then van Riemsdyk answers on a power play, and Green adds an empty netter, thank goodness because Miller adds another for the visitors with only 0:22 left. Game mercifully ends 6-5 Toledo.

1st star – Burns 1g2a
2nd – Green 1g1a
3rd Backstrom 3a

Bucks County Raccoons @ Toledo Walleye Raccoons 4, Walleye 3 – Game starts out with 3 goals the first 4 minutes, McDavid and Schwartz for the visitors, Mantha for the Walleye. Meier adds another 4 minutes later to make it 3-1, and the Walleye pop on in just before the end of the period (van Riemsdyk) to go at intermission down 1.

Scoring slows way down, with the Racoons (Kane) adding one in the 2nd, and the Walleye adding one midway down the 3rd, but cannot find the equalizer they need, losing 4-3

1st star – van Riemsdyk 2g
2nd = Schwartz 1g1a
3rd – Allen 45 saves

Weekly Summary: Another split at home for the Walleye means little chance of moving up the division.

van Riemsdyk starting to heat up with 3 goals this 2 games. Toledo seems to have the offense in gear, now needs to crank down on defense.

Clearfield Bison
Weekly Preview: Clearfield hosts Alamo and LA from the Pacific Division.
Alamo Defenders @ Clearfield Bison Alamo scores early but then Clearfield scores often, cruising to a 6-2 home win.
LA Great Danes  @ Clearfield Bison Much more typical low-scoring game. 2-2 after regulation,no scoring in OT, then Hellebuyck stops all 3 Dane shooters to earn the OT win.
Weekly Summary: 2-0 at home, and a 3-1 overall set means the Bison are off to a better start than expected.

Looking for some scoring depth; I have a great 1-year goalie and some young talent to move.

Brentwood Bandits
Weekly Preview: Brentwood hosts Toledo and NJ.
Toledo Walleye @ Brentwood Bandits Bandits win 3-2.
New Jersey Grizzlies @ Brentwood Bandits Bandits win 7-2.
Weekly Summary: In a “rebuilding year” we seem to be playing around .500 right now. Kessel and Tavares are definitely fun to watch. Rumor has at least one, if not both are actively being shopped around.

Other rumors have some other key players being moved as well.
