SIGNIFICANT DEAL KENTUCKY & OREGON SWAP NINE PLAYERS AND TWO DRAFT CHOICES

or Immediate Release
February 3, 2000

Louisville, Kentucky – The Kentucky Head Hunters continued to move players fast and furious today by acquiring shortstop Derek Jeter. Jeter was quoted as saying, “When I found out that I was going to be playing in Oregon on dispersal draft day, oh, I was a bit depressed. I mean, here I’ve got this swinging bachelor thing going for me, and my mom thought that it would be a good idea if I moved back home to Michigan. Don’t get me wrong, I love my family, but there comes a time when a man has to bust out and have his own experiences. While Kentucky may not the most hoppin’ spot in the league, I think that I’ll enjoy my time there immensely”. General Manager Brian Scantland, “With Jeter, Andruw Jones, and Adrian Beltre, I feel the Head Hunters have a solid, young foundation of high ceiling talent. The trade leaves us weak in pitching, and losing Petrick and Burroughs will be felt. I hated to give up so much talent and future, but to acquire a top notch shortstop in this league you must make sacrifices.” Specifics of the deal are as follows: Kentucky receives Jeter, Bohanon, Lockhart and a 3rd round pick in 2000; Oregon receives prospects Petrick and Burroughs; major leaguers Darren Oliver, Doug Brocail, Travis Fryman, Orlando Cabrera and the 2nd overall pick of the 2000 draft. Speculation abounds regarding the direction Oregon will go with the 2nd pick in Saturday’s draft. Ironically, Oregon picks behind Kentucky to start off the MWBL 2000 draft.

Kentucky Receives: Derek Jeter, Brian Bohanon, Keith Lockhart, & Oregons 3rd round picks in 2000 MWBL Draftt.
Oregon Receives:  Doug Brocail, Darren Oliver, Travis Fryman, Orlando Cabera, Ben Petrick, Sean Burroughs, & Severns 1st round picks in 2000 MWBL Draft.
