ESPN NEWS (Bristol) – Pedro Martinez continued a masterful season on Thursday August 10th, 2000.   Martinez was one away from perfect.  One walk, which was on a very close pitch, and Martinez starred down the ump when it happened.  Martinez did throw a No-Hitter, and was as usual – dominating. He only went to 3 balls on 2 hitters during the game, and without the walk, he would have been Perfect.  Pedro was backed by a 15 hit, 10 run attack from the Severn Express hitters, including 3 home runs. Miguel Tejada and Manny Ramirez were two of the players who hit homers, and each drove in 4 runs. Martinez stuck out seven, and was matched through seven innings by Buffalo’s David Cone’s 7 K’s in 7.1 innings.   Martinez lowered his American League ERA to a astonishing 2.32   Martinez was his usually bubbly self in the press conference after the game. He said “All I do is go out and pitch the ball.  I just do what comes natural, and I try to work at a quick pace, especially with the No-Hitter on the line.  I didn’t even know it, until the 6th, when guys started to stay away from me on the bench. At that point, I though I was sweating to much, and stinking, then I looked up, and saw the scoreboard, and it hit me.  I wasn’t nervous after that, just excited, I hope that I can do it again next start”.
