WOOD COMES CLOSE WITH ONE HIT SHUTOUT OF CONNECTICUT

For Immediate Release
April 27, 1999

ESPN NEWS (Bristol)Kerry Wood must like having his name show up in the newspaper.  Wood once at least this time was not traded.   He went out in his 4th start of the season, and as Wood was quoted as saying “Got down to business”   Wood went out and threw a complete game 1 hitter against the Connecticut Eulers.   A few of the Eulers hitters described his pitching as “explosive, and devastating”.  Joe Carters 7th inning single was all the Eulers could muster as far as hits.  Wood did walk 6 in the outing, as his control seemed to desert him from time to time, but he did have plenty of movement on his pitches.  the infield behind Wood, did turn to double plays off the bat of Juan Castro.   The double plays were key, but Wood did strike out 11 hitters of the Eulers.   Wood was happy with his outing, and was looking forward to getting the ball back in his hand soon.
