INGE HEADS WEST

For Immediate Release
November 8th, 2008

For immediate release:  (Union City, CA)

The West Coast Swing announces the acquisition of Brandon Inge from the Detroit Crime in exchange for Sacramento’s first round pick, which the Swing had acquired in a previous deal during the regular season. The Swing also have catchers Yorvit Torrealba, Jose Molina, Taylor Teagarden, Michael Barrett, and Vance Wilson.

“This solidifies us at catcher,” said Swing GM Mitch Watnik, “and also provides us some additional backup at third and in the outfield.
Torrealba and Molina are really part-time catchers and Teagarden is a late-season call-up. We expect Barrett and Wilson to miss most, if not all, of the year. We were looking for someone with respectable defensive abilities; Brandon’s power and flexibility is a bonus.”

Swing manager Jasper Nelson predicted his lineup to be Victorino, Rios, Utley, Zimmerman, Cabrera, Willingham, Overbay, Inge, and the pitcher.
Cuddyer and Molina can play first to back up Overbay. Amezaga can back up the middle infield, as well as third base and the outfield. Gonzalez is a left-handed bat off the bench. The rotation will be Floyd, Baker,
Blackburn, and Wellemeyer as 1, 2, 3, and 4. Contreras is favored to be the fifth starter going into spring training. Other possibilities include Baek, Balester, Chamberlain, Duke, Hochevar, and Johnson. The bullpen is “loaded,” according to Nelson, with Jenks and Soria set to battle for closer and Buchholz, Chamberlain, Lindstrom, Morrow, and Rincon all possible setup men.

Watnik noted “While Inge didn’t come cheap, you cannot expect to get talent for nothing. We still have all of our draft picks, except for the tenth round. We think that we are pretty much set for this year- and for years to come. The Tempers left at the right time!”
