2012 AMERICAN LEAGUE WILD CARD ROUND

Two evenly matched teams, both finished with identical records during the regular season.

Game 1 – Halladay vs Sabathia:  Roy Halladay was outstanding allowing only 3 hits over 7 innings.  Paul Konerko got the scoring started with a 2 run homer in the 4th to give Severn a 2-0 lead.  Ramon Hernandez added another homer in the 7th; and the Express scored 1 more in the 8th and that is how the game ended.  Express win game 1,  4-0.

Game 2 – Gallardo vs Beckett: Desmond Jennings draws a lead off walk and the Mobsters promptly put on the hit and run and execute to perfection as Jeter hits it to 2nd where no one is at, so the Mobsters have 1st and 3rd with no outs.  With Chipper at the dish, Jeter steals 2nd.  Jones would ground out, but Jennings scores and Jeter would advance to 3rd.  Gallardo’s wildness continued as he walked McCutchen to make it 1st and 3rd again.  Gallardo was able to force Posey to pop out to first and Avila to ground out to limit the Mobsters to a 1-0 lead after 1.  The score would remain the same until the 6th, when Matt holliday would draw a lead off walk.  Severn was feeling pretty good with Cabrera and Konerko coming up, but neither did anything.  Mr. McCann on the other hand was able to take Beckett opposite field for a 2 run shot to give the Express their first lead of the game 2-1.  On to the bottom of the 9th with Express closer Scott Downs on the hill.  McCutchen leads off with a single.  Posey would then hit a rope to the corner and allow McCutchen to score and tie the game.  The express would manage to get out of the 9th, but did nothing in their half of the 10th.  With late season acquisition Miguel Batista on the mound, Desmond Jennings would lead off with a triple to the corner and nobody out.  Batista would strike out Jeter for the 1st out, but his luck ran out when Chipper Jones singled through a drawn in infield.  Mobsters win 3-2 to tie the series at 1 game apiece.

Game 3 – Tim Hudson vs King Felix:  Top of 1, Jason Werth sets the tone for this game with a long home run and the Express lead 1-0.  Werth would lead off the 3rd with a double and then advance on a Holliday ground out.  Cabrera would pop up for out #2.  A Konerko base hit allows Werth to score and Konerko to advance to 2nd on the throw, 2-0 Express.  A McCann walk makes it 1st and 2nd with 2 outs and ARod coming to the plate.  ARod would line a hit to leftthat would score Konerko and a wild throw by Jennings allowed both runners to advance, 3-0.  Byrd would line a hit to left that scored both runners and he advanced on another bad throw by Jennings,  5-0.  A looper to right by Sanchez scored Bryd to end the 3rd with the Express leading 6-0.  The Mobsters got 1 back in the bottom of the 5th on a BJ Upton home run, 6-1 Express.  The Express got that run back in the 6th on a lead off home run by Werth, to get the lead back to 6.  The Mobsters got 1 more in the 6th and the Express added 1 in the 8 for a final score of 8-2.

The 1st 2 games were very tight, but the Mobsters offense never seemed to get going.  The Express got help from unexpected sources throughout their line up
