Tempe Tempers @ Columbus Explorers |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | Defending NL Champs – Columbus – off to a surprising start hosts the Tempe Tempers, who is shooting for an undefeated season (and they can probably do it with their squad this year) – yikes!!!! |
Game #1: | Homer Bailey gets the nod to face Kenta Maeda and Alex Dickerson stakes him to a 1-0 lead with a leadoff homer (3) in the 2nd. Xander Bogaerts singles 2 batters later and that’s all the hits the Tempers got in this game. But they still had Maeda on the mound! He fans 10, gives up but 3 hits in his 6.1 innings – but he gives up solo homers to Salvador Perez (2) and Asdrubal Cabrera (2). Columbus adds an insurance run in the 8th and Tempe loses its 1st game of the season. TEM 1-2-0 LP Maeda (1-1) COL 3-4-0 WP Bailey (2-0) S Liam Hendriks (6) |
Game #2: | However, just because the Tempers lost the previous game doesn’t mean they will start a long losing streak. In fact, Freddie Freeman unloads in the 1st for a 2 run homer (3). Anthony Rendon goes 4 for 5 with 2 runs, 2 RBIs, and a solo homer (3) and starter Adam Wainwright continues to pitch well through old age as he goes 6.1 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, and 5 Ks. The Tempe bullpen yields 1 hit in 2.2 innings and Tempe starts their next winning streak with a big 5-1 win! TEM 5-9-0 WP Wainwright (2-0) COL 1-4-0 LP Happ (1-1) |
Series Summary: | Columbus is excited to get 1 win against the evil empire considering they were quite outmatched. Not expecting much more the rest of the way, but it’s been a fun start. |

Game #2: | Oviedo and Morejon both pitch well. Oviedo is cruising along with a 2 run lead when that guy Myers comes up. Boom, another 2-run HR, and the game is tied 2-2 after six. Escobar hits a solo shot in the 7th to put SBL up 3-2. That would be the final score as the teams split the short series. |

Rosemere Renegades @ Portland Lumber Jax |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | The 4-6 Rosemere Renegades head to Portland to visit the LumberJax 5-4. |
Game #1: | This game was a barnburner. Both teams are tied after 9. In the 10th inning, perhaps the rarest of plays occurred:
D. Fletcher facing C. Stratton, T 10th, 2 Outs, bases loaded, tied 3-3: Unfortunately, Portland would counter with a 2-run Valaika home run in the bottom of the inning to steal the win. |
Game #2: | Portland Marquez completely shuts Rosemere down. Going into the 9th inning, Portland leads 6-0, but the luck runs out for Marquez and he gives up a three-run homer to Hoskins. Underwood and Hunter come on to get the save for Portland. POR 6 RRG 3 |

Three straight hits open the scoring in the first for Motor City, but Max Kepler nails Mike Trout at the plate to keep it 2-0 and end the inning. Motor City threatens but goes scoreless for the next seven innings. Tarik Skubal departs with 12 K’s but behind 2-0. deGrom cruises against the Cannons, allowing only one hit through 7 innings, notching 10 strikeouts. Motor City scores an insurance run in the ninth and takes it 3-0. W: Jacob deGrom (2-0) HR: none |
Game #2: | The wind was blowing out in this one, with Luis Garcia of Motor City facing Zac Gallen of Fremont.
Yoan Moncada gets excited about some baserunners and sends a 3-run homer over the fence in the bottom of the 1st. Motor City gets right back in it in the top of the second with solo homers by Nick Castellanos and Orlando Arcia. Teoscar Hernandez singled home Austin Hays in the 5th for Fremont, but Motor City answers in the 6th with a Mike Trout solo HR. Fremont responds with another run in the bottom of the sixth with a Joshua Rojas sac fly, then a few walks, and a Michael Brosseau PH-single give Fremont another three runs. Motor City gets back in business, as Mike Trout homers again in the eight to bring in two, and Nick Castellanos does the same. Down by one run in the ninth, Orlando Arcia sends one deep to right, but not deep enough. Neil Walker doubles to put the tying run in scoring position, but Shane Greene strikes out Dylan Moore to close out the game. W: Zac Gallen (2-1) HR: MCM-Mike Trout 2 (4), Nick Castellanos 2 (5), Orlando Arcia (1); FRE-Yoan Mocada (1) |
