Manhattan Project @ Virginia Sluggers

Series Preview: Two also-rans tangle as the year edges closer to the end.
Game #1: VIR 5-4

5 runs on 4 hits win it for VIR. A 4 run 1st puts VIR up quickly and they hold on to withstand 3 Project homers. Heath Fillmyer got the win in his first start of the year, Chatwood the loss.

Game #2: VIR 12-8

Hanigers grand slam highlighted a 5 run 1st for MAN, but Clint Frazier’s 3-3 day with a homer and 4 RBI coupled with Dawel Lugo’s 2-4 showing with 2 doubles and 4 RBI was too much to overcome. Kolton Wong also went deep for MAN and Craig Biggio and Anthony Rizzo for VIR.

Game #3: MAN 6-3

Once again MAN jumped out in the 1st. This time aided by J Man Choi’s 3-run bomb as MAN put up a 4 spot. That’s all they needed to get Tanaka his 7th win but they added 2 more for comfort and still allowed Oberg to get his 17th save.

Game #4: VIR 5-4

3 errors spoiled Luis Castillo’s start as the teams carried a 4-4 tie into the 9th thanks to a Kolton Wong RBI doubled that tied it in the 7th. However, Eloy Jiminez walked it off for VIR with a solo shot in the 9th.

Game #5: MAN 11-9

J Man Choi led the Project attack going 4-4 with his 12th homer and 5 RBI. Vargas also chipped in with 4 hits and Goodwin 3 hits and 2 RBI. Despite giving up 13 hits and 6 runs in 6 innings, Rick Porcello got his 3rd win of the year.

Game #6: MAN 13-6

MAN left no doubt about this victory. 2 runs in the 1st, 1 in the 2nd, and then a 7 spot in the 3rd. After that, it was all over. Ramos was 5-6 with 4 RBI, Santander 3-5 with a homer, and 4 RBI, and White kicked in with a 2-run homer. Chatwood redeemed his first game start by picking up the win in this one.

Series Summary: A 3-3 split for the teams.

Series Summary: The last game was an 11th inning classic won on a 2 run homer from Aldoberto Mondesi.

Dallas Cougars @ Yonge Street Stalkers

Series Preview: As a general rule, we roll out the red carpet for Cougars.
Game #1: The home squad got to Dallas Keuchel early and often. He gave up 8 hits, including 3 solo shots to Bryant, Soler, and Heyward. He exited after 3.1 IP and allowed 7 runs (6ER). Cam Bedrosian was strong and allowed just 1 ER as he was extended out to 5 IP rather than his usual “opener” role. YSS 8 – DAL 4
Game #2: Gerrit Cole was strong to quite strong. I took him out after 7 IP and 25 batters faced holding a 4-0 lead. Keona Kela followed with 2 perfect innings, K’ing 4. Austin Nola hit a pair of homers for the Stalkers. YSS 5 – DAL 0 (L. Allen injured 8 days)
Game #3: Sloppy glovework was the culprit in this one. Lucas Giolito was tough. He improved to 14-6 on the season and held the YSS offense to just a Kris Bryant solo shot. Yonny Chirinos allowed 2 runs (1ER) in a strong effort of his own. Former long time Stalker Martin Prado was a needle, going 2-2 with a BB and a run scored. DAL 2 – YSS 1
Game #4: Michael Pineda decided to be awesome. He does that every month or so after getting trounced routinely. Kris Bryant hit another homer, a two-run shot. Travis d’arnaud hit a double. I only mention that because that was the total YSS output. Two hits were enough. YSS 2 – DAL 0 (H. Castro injured 13 days)
Game #5: C. Anderson led the way for the Cougars. He allowed 3 ER to improve to 11-3 (sneaky nice 2.71 ERA). Kris Bryant hit another HR for the losers. DAL 5 – YSS 4
Game #6: A rematch of game 1. Dallas Keuchel and Dallas fared better. Laureano doubled twice and homered and Stalker needle Martin Prado struck again (3-4, 2 RBI). DAL 8 – YSS 6
Series Summary: The Stalkers came out hot; won 3 of the first 4, then soiled themselves the last two to split the series. Dallas continues on to Motor City next week, while YSS packs for Virginia.

Selkirk Steelers @ Sacramento Capitals

Series Summary: Sacrament and Selkirk split six.

Hollywood Werewolves @ Fremont Cannons

Series Preview: Fremont just hanging on in the conversation. Hollywood looking for #1 seed.
Game #1: Carlos Rodon gets his first start of the season and gets wild, ejected after two hit batsmen. The damage is already done after allowing 6 ER, and Hollywood cruises 12-2. Jon Lester goes to 14-4.
Game #2: Fremont faces a tough task against Charlie Morton, but hang a first-inning run on him. Hollywood bounces back led by the bottom of the order, as Freddy Galvis and Kyle Farmer homer. Shohei Ohtani’s solo shot in the ninth gets Fremont closer, but they fall 4-2. Yoan Moncada notches his 20th HR on the season.
Game #3: Fremont jumps out early on David Price to a 5-0 lead after two. Hollywood gets within one in the fifth, but Fremont tacks on runs in the 6th and 7th to win it 7-4. Kyle Farmer homers again for the Werewolves. Clayton Kershaw is called on in relief and doesn’t make a start in the series.
Game #4: Daniel Norris moves to 11-6 after holding the Werewolves in check. Fremont wins 3-1.
Game #5: Mike Yastrzemski has a nice day hitting leadoff, going 3-4 with 2 R and 2 RBI. Hollywood has a 2-0 lead in the fifth, but Fremont scores 4 in the bottom of the inning.Sandy Alcantara pitches well enough to get the win in the 6-4 Fremont victory. Carlos Correa, just back from a lengthy injury, leaves again after a collision and will miss 13 days.
Game #6: Charlie Morton says “I want a split!”. Jason Vargas says “I want to give up 4 home runs!”. Charlie Morton improves to 17-6 with a complete game in the 6-2 Hollywood victory.
Series Summary: A 3-3 split, a solid result for the Cannons against one of the AL elite. Hollywood was likely hoping for more.

Long Beach Dirt Bags @ Rosemere Renegades

Series Summary:  Long Beach takes the first 3 and the Renegades take the last 3,
