Selkirk  Steelers @ Triple Creek  Patriots

Series Preview: Selkirk (45-57) paddles into Triple Creek (50-52) for a 6 game set.
Game #1: Solid outing from Keller but the Steeler offense couldn’t get timely hits today as they strand 10 and come up just short. Benintendi, Tomlinson and Orf each collect 2 hits to pace the Patriot offense.

SS 3 TCP 4

W – Jennings (4)
L – Keller (3)
S – Soria (12)

Game #2: Up 8-4 heading into the bottom half of 8, Perez implodes for Selkirk and after the dust clears it’s 8-8. The Steelers would plate 1 in the 10th to take it in extras. Profar had the big game (3-5 w/ 4 RBI) and 3 Patriot errors (in the same inning) helped tie the series at 1 each.

SS 9 TCP 8

W – Turnbull (5)
L – McGee (3)
S – Norris (10)

Game #3: All Patriots as they score 4 again in the 8th to win this one easy. Almora (4-5) and 4 other homies collect 2 hits each as Triple Creek compiles 15 hits.

Bethesda  Bandicoots @ Columbus  Explorers

Series Preview: Bethesda comes to Columbus – Explorers need good week after getting thrashed by Long Beach – and the Dirt Bags have ramped up the Wild Card race. And the Bandicoots are not far behind there either – so these games are ALL IMPORTANT…
Game #1: Bottom of the 9th, Adam Ottavino in for 2 inning save, gives up 1 out 2 run walk-off homer to Shin-Soo Choo (14)
BET 7-12-1 LP Ottavino (5-1) BS (3)
COL 8-10-0 WP LeClerc (3-2)
HRs: BET Anthony Rendon (13), Robinson Chirinos (15); COL – Charlie Blackmon (17), Asdrubal Cabrera (19), Choo (14)
Game #2: Columbus comes from 2 down in the 3rd, Jonathan Schoop homer (12) getting 2 in the 4th and 7th to win going away.
BET 2-3-1 LP John Gant (4-4)
COL 4-6-2 WP David Robertson (4-2), S Yusmeiro Petit (7)
HRs: BET – Schoop (12); COL – Matt Carpenter (13)
BAD NEWS -Bethesda’s Matt Adams and A.J. Ellis collide on a foul pop – Adams will miss 6 days, Ellis will be out a while (20 days).
Game #3: Julio Teheran the star in this one, although he was perfectly matched by Tyler Ross (until he walked off the mound in the 6th – 11 days for him). Teheran goes 8, 2 hits, 7 ks, no runs. Jose LeClerc completes the shutout, helping Julio out of a 9th inning jam. Ross gave up 2 hits in his time and no runs. Reliever Sonny Gray gives up a homer to Ryan Zimmerman in the 6th and that was all the scoring.
BET 0-2-0 LP Gray (3-9)
COL 1-4-3 WP Teheran (8-6) S LeClerc (16)
HR: Col – Zimmerman (4)
Game #4: Columbus uses good pitching by J.A. Happ to win their 4th straight despite being outhit by Bethesda. – But then 7 walks didn’t hurt much – well it hurt the Bandicoots.
BET 2-8-0 LP Jake Arrieta (6-6) – 6 walks in 4 innings
COL 5-6-0 WP Happ (15-2) S Luis Avilan (1)
HRs: BET – Lorenzo Cain (6), Robinson Chirinos (16); COL Matt Carpenter (14)
Game #5: There won’t be a sweep – but it was close to still having a chance. Bandicoots take early control with 2 in the 1st and 1 in the 3rd. Hyun-Jin Ryu cruising until a Ryan Zimmerman 2 run homer in the 6th. Bullpen comes to the rescue – until Brandon Morrow gives up the tying run in the 9th when Francisco Pena singles in Dee Gordon. But Jose LeClerc stinks up the 10th, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs and the Coots toot their horns and win. Lorenzo Cain gets 3 hits, and 4 others get 2 each – Trevor Story drives in 2 as does Ryan O’Hearn.
BET 5-13-0 WP Morrow (2-1) BS (4) 10 innings
COL 3- 7-0 LP LeClerc (3-3)
Game #6: Columbus should have won this one – probably blame the manager – but, they still should have won. Score was 8-2 entering the 8th when Coots get 2 – Lorenzo Cain doubles in Trevor Story (who should have been thrown out at 2nd). Then Matt Carpenter fields a grounder and throws it by Luis Avilan covering 1st allowing Cain to score. 8-4 after 8 (2 unearned runs).
9TH INNING – 1st 2 batters – hit and HBP – exit Avilan, enter Tony Watson (very stingy to this point in the season). 1st batter = David Peralta singles through the SS hole, Jay tries for home, the throw is wild and he scores, Anthony Rendon also flies around 3rd, he scores. 8-6 (more unearned runs). Trevor Story belts one off the wall, Peralta scores, 8-7 – STILL NO OUTS. Ryan O’Hearn – bounces out (finally an out), story to 3rd. Infield in – bouncer to Watson checks the runner, gets the out at 1st. Wow, 2 outs, still 8-7. WAIT – Miller up, infielders are still in – is the manager asleep? Must have been, Miller grounds one past Dee Gordon and the game is tied. And then Robinson Chirinos homers to give the Coots the 10-8 lead. Ryan Tepera – who pitched the 8th and 9th – PERFECTLY – gets the win.
BET 10-10-0 WP Tepera (1-0)
COL 8-12-3 LP Tony Watson (3-1) BS (2)
Avilan and Watson both gave up 4 runs and both only gave up 1 earned runs – 6 unearned runs in the last 6 innings!!!!!!!!
Series Summary: This series had a few NON-STELLAR moments from Closers….

So, we win 4 of 6 – definitely should have been 5 of 6 – but considering the closeness of some of those other games – we will not complain very loudly – but we will hold some practice sessions for fielding (and managerial) blunders.

Next week we take on NL East front runner, Pittsburgh at home and the Coots return home to host Harsens Island.

Chicago  Mobsters @ Fremont  Cannons

Game #4: Yulieski Gurriel doubles home Teoscar Hernandez in the bottom of the 10th to see Fremont win 9-8. Andrew McCutchen and Javier Baez each homered twice.
Game #5: Alex Bregman and Leonys Martin led the way as Chicago wins 9-5. Noah Syndergaard improves to 11-5. Daniel Norris strikes out 10 but leaves with a 5-day injury.

Series Summary: Chicago and Fremont split 3-3!

Hollywood  Werewolves @ Yonge Street  Stalkers

Series Preview: The Werewolves prowled over to Yonge Street and some baseball games took place.
Game #1: David Price vs Gerrit Cole turned into batting practice for the visitors. Five (5) Wereweolves knocked in two (2) runs apiece while three (3) others plated single runs. HOL 13 – YSS 2
Game #2: The game was tied at 3 until a Trea Turner solo shot in the bottom of the 8th. The stout Stalker pen made it stick. YSS 4 – HOL 3
Game #3: Chapman and Cargo combined to drive in 7. That was plenty of support for Morton. HOL 9 – YSS 2
Game #4: Ivan Nova was somewhere between “strong and quite strong”. Scooter Gennett (HR/2RBI) and the home squad nicked Kershaw early. YSS 3 – HOL 0
Game #5: Trea Turner swatted 2 solo shots to lead the Stalkers attack. Fun Fact: Cam Bedrosian pitched to 5 guys and K’d them all. YSS 7 – HOL 4
Game #6: Price vs Cole the rematch. Cole pitched like a champ. A shaky Kelvin Herrera allowed it to be a nail biter. *Chris Ianetta injured for 11 days*. YSS 4 – HOL 3
Series Summary: It started out looking like a typical split HOL/YSS/HOL/YSS, but YSS pulled out the last 3 in a row to take the series 4-2. Hollywood will return home to host Manhattan, while YSS packs up for Southbend.

Tijuana  Bottle Rockets @ Southwest Detroit  Fighting Chihuahuas

Series Summary:  Tijuana takes 3 of 5 from Southwest Detroit.

Motor City  Muscle @ Mesa  Solar Sox

Series Preview: Motor City rumbles in to the desert in first place to visit the Solar Sox, who are treading water in 3rd place in their division.
Game #1: Mesa gets a three run homer from Todd Frazier to break up a 0-0 pitchers duel between Justin Verlander and Ian Kennedy in the bottom of the 5th. Justin lost his composure momentarily and grooved one to Eddie Rosario who parked his back to back homer for a 4-0 Mesa lead. Mesa hung on to win 4-1.
Game #2: Kyle Hendricks and Trevor Bauer hooked up in a 0-0 game until the top of the 8th. Ian Kinsler and Curtis Granderson walked to lead off the inning. Bauer was replaced by Ryan Pressley and with one out he gave up the game’s only run on a Ryan LeMarre RBI single. Kendricks completed the game, giving up 6 hits and striking out 9.
Game #3: Another great pitchers duel, this time between Andrew Heaney and Rich Hill. Hill blinked first in the bottom of the 7th as Jake Marisnick took him deep for a two run homer. Mesa’s Heaney and their bullpen then fell apart, giving up 5 runs in the last 2 innings for a 5-2 Motor City win.
Game #4: Motor City erupted for a 15 run second inning on their way to a 21-2 blasting of the Solar Sox. Aaron Sanchez took one for the team and gave up 19 hits and 21 runs (11 earned, all in that fifteen run second inning) in 5 innings. Ian Kinsler drove in 6 and scored 5 times with 4 hits and a homer. Sal Perez drove in 5 with a double and a homer. Nick Castellano drove in 3 with a homer and two singles.
Game #5: Castellanos continued to rake – 4 hits, 5 RBI on three doubles and a homer! However he was the only offense and Mesa got long balls from Jesus Aguilar and Jose Ramirez in a 6-5 Mesa win
Game #6: Motor City wins this one on the back of Mike Trout, who homered twice, and a complete game from Verlander, who won his 13th.
Series Summary: Motor City wins the series 4-2 and aside from the blowout in game 4, it was pretty competitive but Mesa has a long way to go to be in the Muscle’s class.
