Detroit  Crime @ Hollywood  Werewolves

Series Summary:  The teams split a six game series.

Tempe  Tempers @ Triple Creek  Patriots

Series Preview:  NL Central leading Tempers take on the Patriots while in a dog fight with Columbus.
Game #1:  Two lefties, Lester and Wood, duke it out to kick the series off, and it’s a good one. Lester goes the distance in a stellar 1 hit effort. Only Almora spoiled the no-no. Wood was nearly as good allowing just 1 run on 3 hits.

TEM 1 TCP 0

W – Lester (9)
L – Wood (8)

Game #2:  Chacin vs Graveman was interesting until Tempe exploded in the 5th with 5 straight hits and 5 runs. Tempe bundled some manufacturing (2 sac flies and a sac hit) with a homer and 2 doubles. Benintendi led Triple Creek with a 3-5 day.

TEM 6 TCP 3

W – Chacin (15)
L – Graveman (9)
S – Vincent (3)

Game #3:  Triple Creek jumped all over Iwakuma, who only made it through 2 full. The Temper bullpen tossed doughnuts the rest of the way and Cabrera made it very insteresting with a 2-run jack in the 9th, but Triple Creel holds on to take the series lead 2-1.

TEM3 TCP 4

W – Gausman (7)
L – Iwakuma (1)
S – Reed (22)

Game #4:  Tied 2-2 after 5 full, Cueto was relieved by Yates in the 5th. Hughes enters in the 7th and allows 2 runs, both unearned, as a costly Temper error allows Triple Creek to take a 2 run lead. Tempe would plate 1 in the 8th but fall short by just 1 run for the 2nd day in a row.

TEM 3 TCP 4

W – Soria (4)
L – Hughes (3)
S – Reed (23)

Game #5:  Tempe looks to Lester to stop the bleeding but he can only get through 4 and leaves trailing 2-0. The Tempers bunch up some hits in the 6th to take a 3-2 lead. Tempe scores in the top of the 8th to take a 2-run lead only to watch it slowly slip away. The Patriots, while out-hit 14-9, sneak out the 3rd W in a row by 1 run with the help of another Tempe error.

TEM 4 TCP 5

W – Reed (4)
L – Workman (2)
S – None

Game #6:  Alex Wood gets some rare help with a nice 4 spot in the 3rd. He would leave in the 8th with a 1 run lead. Marwin Gonzalez drills a big solo shot in the 8th to give the Patriots a 2-run lead, and they would need it as Tempe scores 1 in the 9th. Chacin was denied his 16th win but is enjoying a great season with a 2.98 ERA.

TEM 4 TCP 5

W – Wood (8)
L – Chacin (5)
S – Soria (2)

Series Summary:  The 6 game set was full of suspense with 5 1-run games and Triple Creek takes it 4-2.

Motor City  Muscle @ Manhattan  Project

Series Preview:  Motor City @ Manhattan for 6-game series
Game #1:  MAN 11- MCM 2

WP: Tanaka
LP: de Grom

HR: MCM–Arcia; MAN–A. Garcia, W. Ramos, K. Seagar

Manhattan lit up de Grom to the tune of eight ER in 4.2 IP. Avisail Garcia had three hits and five RBI for MAN.

Game #2:  MAN 11 – MCM 9

WP: Porcello
LP: K. Davies

HR: MCM–V. Martinez, L. Martin; MAN–N. Cruz (2), W. Ramos, Kinsler, Realmuto

MAN once again bludgeons a MCM starter, this time it’s Kyle Davies, making his MCM debut. Nelson Cruz led the way with three hits (two of them HRs), and five RBI. Realmuto scored three runs and drove in three.

Game #3:  MCM 9 – MAN 2

WP: Leake
LP: Pomeranz

WP: Verlander
LP: R. Montero

HR: MCM–S. Perez, Arcia, V. Martinez, L. Martin; MAN–W. Ramos

Scott Alexander notched a save in his MAN debut in Game 5.

Southbend  Lynx @ Mesa  Solar Sox

Series Preview:  Two also rans in the West collide in the desert.
Series Summary:  A pretty even series with good pitching performances and lots of long balls.   Banda wins his 15th and 16th. Not bad for a Grade 3 starter.

Selkirk  Steelers @ Bethesda  Bandicoots

Series Preview:  Bethesda tries to keep some distance between themselves and Jersey as they host the Selkirk Steelers for a half dozen.
Game #1:  Lorenzo Cain goes 4 for 4 and scores twice as the Bandicoots use a four-run first inning to carry them to a 5-3 win over Selkirk.
Logan Morrison drove in half of the first-inning runs with his 13th double of the season with Jonathan Schoop (ground out) and Aledmys Diaz (sacrifice fly) rounding out the scoring.
While Bethesda starter Alex Cobb was giving the bulk of the Steelers hitters fits catcher Tony Wolters had no such trouble going 2/2 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.
The Bandicoots showed no mercy for former teammate Justin Nicolino who drew the start for Selkirk. Nicolino lasted a measly two innings giving up five runs on six hits with two walks and the same number of strikeouts.
BETHESDA 5 – SELKIRK 3
Win-Cobb (11-2)
Save-Cishek (18)
Loss-Nicolino (6-12)
HR-none
Game #2:  The Steelers capitalized on Bethesda starter Sonny Gray’s inability to keep the ball in the park and took the game easily 6-2 despite being outhit 12-7.
The Steelers’ outfielders were merciless in this game, gunning down the inept baserunners three times as they tried to advance extra bases with Carlos Sanchez picking up two assists and Steven Souza Jr. another.
The Steelers scored in each of the 2nd to 5th innings with Gray giving up a two-run shot to Souza in the 4th and Starlin Castro in the 2nd. Sanchez also went deep for Selkirk hammering an outside pitch by Tyler Pill into the centre field stands.
Jesse Hahn did a magical job of allowing just two runs in six innings despite giving up 10 hits. He fanned two without walking a batter.
Lorenzo Cain, Carlos Asuaje, and David Peralta each had three hits in the game for Bethesda.
SELKIRK 6 – BETHESDA 2
Win-Hahn (3-4)
Loss-Gray (7-6)
HR-SEL: Castro (18), Souza (16), Sanchez (12)
Game #3:  Jonathan Schoop buried a James Shields’ fastball into the outfield stands for three runs as part of the Bandicoots’ five-run outburst in the 2nd inning and they hung on to win 6-5 over Selkirk.
Selkirk’s Steven Souza Jr. opened the scoring in the 1st inning with a two-run shot off ineffective Erasmo Ramirez in the 1st inning and tied it up when Starlin Castro launched one just over the outstretched glove of David Peralta in right field with two runners aboard.
Peralta came back in the 4th and tripled home what wound up being the last and winning run for Bethesda.
Castro was 3/4 with two runs scored, three RBIs while Souza had two hits and two RBIs for Selkirk.
Peralta and Alen Hanson each had two hits for Bethesda.
BETHESDA 6 – SELKIRK 5
Win-Tepera (6-3)
Save-Cishek (19)
Loss-Shields (9-9)
HR-SEL: Castro (19), Souza (17); BET: Schoop (19)
Game #4:  The only laugher of the series saw Bethesda score six times in the 5th inning as they cruised to a 10-2 win over Selkirk.
Pretty much everyone for Bethesda chipped in with Anthony Rendon, David Peralta, Robinson Chirinos, and Alen Hanson getting a pair of hits in support of the rapidly running out of gas starter Jake Arrieta.
Arrieta gave up one run on three hits in five innings to earn the win.
Selkirk starter JC Ramirez gave up nine runs (five earned) on 11 hits and two walks in five innings of “work”.
BETHESDA 10 – SELKIRK 2
Win-Arrieta (14-10)
Save-Ryu (1)
Loss-Ramirez (7-14)
HR-BET: Morrison (31), Story (19), Miller (10)
Game #5:  Alen Hanson’s solo homer in the bottom of the 8th inning spoiled a nice Selkirk comeback from 5-0 as they fell 6-5 to Bethesda.
The Bandicoots led 5-0 after the 4th inning thanks largely to huge days at the plate by Lorenzo Cain (4/5 with a double and two runs scored in his 2nd 4-hit game of the series) and Anthony Rendon (3/4 two runs, home run, 3 RBIs and a walk).
Nick Williams got the Steelers on the board with a solo homer off Alex Cobb in the 5th and then Selkirk went apeshit in the 7th when they just kept finding green with Tony Wolters, Starlin Castro, Steven Souza and Carlos Sanchez stringing together consecutive hits off Cobb capped by Sanchez’s bases loaded triple.
It was not to be as Hanson’s glof shot off Zach McAllister in the 8th proved to be their undoing. Brandon Morrow came in to close the game, walked the first batter he faced and then proceeded to strike out the side and earn the save.
BETHESDA 6 – SELKIRK 5
Win-Tepera (7-3)
Save-Morrow (7)
Loss-McAllister (4-7)
HR-SEL: N.Williams (7); BET: Rendon (24), Hanson (3)
Game #6:  Another close game decided in the early going as neither team could manage much of anything after the 4th inning, but it was Bethesda that scored last on RBI singles by Anthony Rendon and Trevor Story to edge Selkirk 3-2.
Rendon led the charge on the day with a 2/4 showing, one run scored and two driven in for Bethesda.
Bethesda starter Sonny Gray had a rocky start allowing an RBI single to Starlin Castro in the 1st inning and then Pablo Sandoval panda-ed the ball out of the park in the 2nd inning to give the Steelers a brief 2-1 lead. Castro was the lone Steeler to have two hits in the game.
A better but still not good start from the first in the series for Justin Nicolino. The soft-tossing lefty stuck around for one out short of six innings giving up three runs on seven hits with an uncharacterisic lack of control that led to five walks. He also struck out five.
BETHESDA 3 – SELKIRK 2
Win-Gray (8-6)
Save-Morrow (8)
Loss-Nicolino (6-13)
HR-SEL: Sandoval (6)
Series Summary:  Selkirk plays a very gritty series with most of the games completely up for grabs, but Bethesda perhaps undeservedly sneaks away with five wins in the six games.
