Tijuana  Bottle Rockets ! Motor City  Muscle

Series Preview:  Two division leaders get together for 6.
Series Summary:  Tijuana bounces back from a bad road series to take 5 of 6 at home from a good Motor City team.

Portland  Lumber Jax @ Sacramento  Capitals

Series Summary:  Portland travels south and drops 5 of 6 to hometown Sacramento.

Bethesda  Bandicoots @ Jersey  Nor’easters

Series Preview:  Big series for the Nor’easters. They need a minimum of 4 wins to gain ground on front running Bethesda.
Game #1:  Jersey had the lead twice but could not keep Bethesda off the bases. The Bandicoots score 7 runs in the last 3 innings and come away with a 10-5 win.
Game #2:  Again Jersey gives up a lead and despite a pair of homers from Roughned Odor the Nor’easters drop a 8-6 game to the Bandicoots. Trevor Story and Norris had key homers for Bethesda.
Game #3:  This one goes 10 innings and momentum briefly swung in favor of jersey when Jay Bruce hit a 2-run homer to send the game into extra innings. Short lived elation for the Nor’easters when Jonathan Scoop homered for Bethesda in the 10th and it held up. Bethesda wins 5-4 in 10.
Game #4:  Finally! Jersey scores 7 runs in the 6th inning and coasts to 10-2 win. Tommy Pham, Jose Ramirez and Odor all have 2 RBI for the winners.
Game #5:  Probably too little too late but Jersey behind mike Montgomery takes this one 6-4. Jersey had only 5 hits in the game but managed to score 6 runs.
Game #6:  Jersey wins another, this time it’s a shutout as Daniel Mengden, Josh Hader and Brad hand combine for a 3-0 win. Roughned Odor hits a big 2-run homer late to help seal the deal.
Series Summary:  Well, Jersey spit the bit and kissed their sister by splitting the series 3-3 gaining no ground on the Bandicoots. Bethesda will be tough catch for the Division crown and the wild card is out of the question.

Valdosta  Snappers @ Long Beach  Dirt Bags

Series Summary:  Valdosta takes 5 of 6 from Long Beach.

Corktown Cycle @ Columbus  Explorers

Series Preview:  Corktown hosts the red-hot Explorers along with their 23 game winning streak. Oh boy….
Game #1:  Happ vs. Shipley – mismatch? Yes. 3-2 in the 2nd Columbus and that was as close as it got. Shipley even got a SF in that 2nd inning. But Carpenter (24), Granderson (10) and Avila (5) homer for the visitors. At one point, it was 5-2 Columbus and all 5 runs were driven in by Avila
COL 9-13-1 WP Happ (12-5)
CRK 2-8-1 LP Shipley (3-7)
Streak moves to 24
Game #2:  Meyer vs. Asher and this time the Cycle score 1st with runs in the 1st and 3rd. Then the Explorers explode for 2 in the 4th, 3 in the 6th and 7th for an 8-2 lead. 2 Cycle runs in the 7th are then match by 2 in the 9th for Columbus. Columbus hits 9 doubles (of 14 hits) in the game!
COL 10-14-0 WP Meyer (4-0)
CRK 4-10-0 LP Asher (3-6)
Streak = 25
Game #3:  With Bridwell and Koehler facing each other, there wasn’t a lot of hope to stop the streak, but you never know, stranger things have happened. But not today. Explorers score 5 runs over the first 5 innings. Phegley (double) and Coghlan each drive in runs in the 7th to make it 5-2, but then Carpenter drills a 1 run homer (25) in the 9th off Knebel and it’s a lopsided loss again for the home team.
COL 7-12-1 WP Bridwell (8-2)
CRK 2-5-0 LP Koehler (4-7)
Streak moves to 26
Game #4:  Columbus ace, Ervin Santana vs. Jose Berrios – should be a good one. And it was, especially if you are from Corktown and you want to see a streak end. Columbus gets 1 in the 1st, then LeMahieu drives in 2 to give the Cycle a rare lead. Then Chris Taylor jacks a 2 run shot in the 2nd and it’s 4-1 Corktown. Explorers cut it to 4-2 after a Paul DeJong homer (22) but that wasn’t enough and an insurance run in the 8th seals the deal – that and Corey Knebel closing down the visitors.
COL 2-5-0 LP Santana (12-3)
CRK 5-6-0 WP Berrios (13-5) S Knebel (24)
STREAK = 1 For Corktown!
Game #5:  Hometown happy, visitors riled. Lance McCullers vs. Robbie Ray. Charlie Blackmon gets a solo homer (25) in the 4th. McCullers going strong but in the 5th he gives up a 2 run homer to Heredia and the Cycle take the lead with power pitcher Ray on the mound. But the Explorers manufacture a run in the 6th to tie. Then, with Ray gone after 7, the Explorers are able to patch together 2 runs in the 9th on 1 hit (and some walks). David Robertson is called on to save the day in the bottom half – and he does.
COL 4-4-1 WP Petit (4-1) S Robertson (31)
CRK 2-3-2 LP Edwards (3-5)
Note the lack of scoring, Columbus back on winning streak (at one)
Game #6:  Both benches cleared in this game but it wasn’t a brawl. This was supposed to be a 6 game series, but the pitchers had other plans. Corktown gets a 2 run homer from Michael A. Taylor (18) in the 8th of Chris Rusin that ties the game at 3-3. The bullpens then combine for 7 scoreless innings with the game going into the 16th 3-3. Explorers get 9 hits in 16 innings but they also draw 7 walks and finally in the 16th they get a homer from Eduardo Nunez (10) to break the tie. Petit comes in fans the 3 batters he faces in the bottom half for the save.
COL 5-9-0 WP Watson (1-0) S Petit (19) 16 INNINGS
CRK 3-11-0 LP Loup
Columbus streak now at 2 (but not worth reporting unless it grows big again).
Series Summary:  Columbus takes 5 of 6 at Corktown, but the Cycle stops the big winning streak. Columbus goes to Pittsburgh next week, the Cycle host Jersey.

Dallas  Cougars @ Coconut Creek  Crushers

Series Preview:  CCC looking to win 2 or 3 from DAL.
Game #1:  Godley goes 8-2/3 and Barnes finishes off a 3-2 CCC win.
Game #2:  Up 4-1 early, CCC cannot hold the lead and falls to DAL 5-4.
Game #3:  Peacock goes 8 IP with 13 K’s for CCC. But DAL gets 2 HR’s and wins another close one 4-3.
Game #4:  Samardzija and Corbin both toss 7 IP with 2 ER. Bullpens take over and the game goes extra innings. Pollock hits a solo HR in the top of the 10th for DAL. CCC shows a little grit and pushes across 2 runs in the bottom of the 10th for a walk-off 4-3 win.
Game #5:  Snell and Suter both pitch strong and allow 1 run each. Another close game for the bullpens to decide. DAL scores a run in the 8th to take a 2-1 lead into the 9th. Diaz comes on for the save but CCC plates a run to send it to extra innings. DAL scores in the 13th to win 3-2.
Game #6:  DAL is ready for Godley this time around. They blow him up and take a 6-0 lead after 4 innings. Norris was cruising for DAL but CCC figured him out in the 5th inning and score 5 runs to get within a run. DAL finishes off Godley with a quick run in the 6th to take a 7-5 lead. CCC is still hot and plates 3 more runs in the bottom of the 6th to take our first lead 8-7. It wasn’t enough though as DAL kept scoring and we were done. Final score was DAL 11-8.
Series Summary:  DAL wins the series 4-2. First 5 games were all decided by one run.

Southwest Detroit  Fighting Chihuahuas @ Manhattan  Project

Series Summary:  The Fightning Chihuahuas wins two games at home! Yay!

Detroit Crime @ Yonge Street Stalkers

Series Preview:  The Crime visits Yonge Street fully prepared to feast on the Stalkers.
Series Summary:  A dispiriting series for the home squad. Grade 3 SP Matt Cain somehow managed to win game 2 for the Stalkers lone victory. YSS actually pitched fairly well, but their chronic weakness versus LH pitchers in general shone verrry brightly.

Chicago  Mobsters @ Mesa  Solar Sox

Series Preview:  How are the Mobsters NOT in 1st place. After dropping the first game to the woefully outgunned Solar Sox, Chicago blasted Mesa 4 straight. JD “Just Dingers” Martinez played in 3 games and had 12 RBI!!!!!
Series Summary:  They walked, blasted homers, took advantage of Mesa’s shoddy defense to take the series 4-1. Injuries to Freddie Freeman and Carlos Martinez will hurt.

Hollywood  Werewolves @ Virginia  Sluggers

Series Summary:  Hollywood takes series 5-1 as they waltz their way to the Division crown.

Selkirk  Steelers @ Tempe  Tempers

Series Preview:  The Selkirk Steelers storm into Tempe for an in division series.
Series Summary:  Selkirk was able to win the first game, but they couldn’t stop Tempe’s offense the rest of the way. Tempe won 5 of 6, but barely kept pace with Columbus. Tempe needs to turn the five game winning streak into their own meaningful streak in order to avoid losing the division. Ozuna slugged three home runs including a grand slam in his first home series as a Temper.

Southbend  Lynx @ Fremont  Cannons

Game #1:  Javier Baez goes 4-4 with 2 HR to pace Fremont past Southbend 9-5.
Game #2:  Jarred Cosart gets the CGSO in his season debut as the Cannons beat the Lynx 6-0. Carlos Correa (27) homered for the second day in a row.
Game #3:  Byron Buxton’s 3-run HR in the tenth inning gives Fremont a walkoff victory, 9-6.
Game #4:  Fremont shuts out Souhbend again 6-0. Jaime Garcia allowed just two hits in 8.2 IP, and Javier Baez hit his 20th homer of the season.
Game #5:  Javier Baez recorded an unassisted triple play, but the Lynx would take their first game of the series 7-5. Jose Altuve went 4-5 with a homer and three RBI.
Game #7:  The Cannons take the finale with another shutout, 7-0. Carlos Rodon moves to 7-1 with a 0.85 ERA, and Fremont saw home runs by Yulieski Gurriel, Caros Correa, Travis Shaw, and Byron Buxton.
Series Summary:  Fremont wins the series 5-1!
