Series Summary: | Triple Creek takes 5 of 6 but the series was much closer than the end result. |
Dallas Cougars @ Virginia Sluggers |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | Dallas in a dog-fight with Motor City. Virginia watching Hollywood stretch out its lead. |
Game #1: | VIR 4-3 W-Luis Garcia (3-3) L-Jose Alvarez (2-1) Seesaw game. VIR jumps out on Anthony Rizzo RBI single. DAL comes right back with a Nick Hundley RBI double. DAL goes up 2-1 on a Yangervis Solarte RBI. Rizzo answers with a go-ahead 2-run blast in the 5th. Two innings later, Yangervis Solarte ties it up with a RBI single. For the next 6 innings both bullpens pitched lights out ball. Then came the 15th. Alvarez ran into trouble when he allowed a hit and two walks to load the bases. Kevan Smith ended the game with a walk-off single. |
Game #2: | VIR 4-0 W-Luis Perdomo (10-2) L-Patrick Corbin (10-4) Perdomo continued his amazing year by baffeling the Cougar bats for 8.2 innings. Meanwhile, George Springer went 2-2 with 2 walks, his 23rd homer and 2 RBI to lead Virginia to the win that also included Jean Segura’s RBI triple. |
Game #3: | VIR 7-3 W-Daniel Wright (1-0) L-Daniel Norris (4-5) Even though the Sluggers only out-hit the Cougars 10-9, three of the hits were homers and put more runs on the board. DAL did get a long-ball from Jose Abreu, but VIR countered with 2-run shots from Anthony Rizzo, Jorge Bonifacio, and a solo blast from Jason Castro. |
Game #4: | DAL 10-2 W- Chase Anderson (11-8) L-Tim Adleman (3-6) Cougar bats come alive and pound VIR. With Anderson in complete control on the mound, the DAL bats ripped 15 hits and punished VIR. Gregor Blanco went 3-5 with a triple and 3 RBI while Jose Abreu also had 3 hits and 3 RBI. Just for fun, Manny Pina went deep and collected 2 hits and 2 RBI. |
Game #5: | VIR 3-2 W-Cory Gearrin (4-6) L-Edgar Diaz (2-5) SV-Felipe Rivero (17) In a game DAL wanted, they led 2-0 on a Yangervis Solarte 4th inning double. VIR closed the gap to 2-1 on a Brandon Guyer RBI in the 7th, but DAL had that tough bullpen for VIR to deal with. But it didn’t seem to matter to Rafael Devers. In the 8th inning he launched a ball deep into the second deck for a 2-run homer and a VIR lead. Flelipe Rivero came in to notch the save. |
Game #6: | VIR 6-4 W-Archer (11-5) L-Andrew Cashner (9-5) SV-Felipe Rivero (18) The Cougars Yangervis Solarte continued his hot hitting with 2 hits, a homer, and 2 RBI to help DAL to a 4-2 lead after 3 innings. But the Sluggers would not give up as every batter except Jorge Bonifacio got hits. Six different batters knocked in runs and 3 of them came in the decisive 5th inning that gave VIR a 6-4 lead they would not relinquish. |
Series Summary: | Dallas came in hoping to put some room between them and Motor City. Well, they did, but in the wrong direction as Virginia took the series 5-1. Even though Virginia closed the gap on Hollywood, the Werewolves still have a substantial lead. |
---|---|
Series Preview: | Long-time rivals Tempers and Capitals face off in Sacramento as the top two teams in the NL. |
Series Summary: | California takes 4 of 6 games in a very close series. Sacramento gets ends up on top in this one thanks to a walk-off single by Moreland in Game 2 and a walk-off 3-run home run by Moreland in Game 6. Since departing Tempe after the all-star break, Greinke has been scored upon in only 1 of his 32 innings back with the Caps. Unfortunately, it was a 4-run 1st inning against his former teammates that would end up costing him the game. |
Corktown Cycle @ Portland Lumber Jax |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | The 46-50 Corktown Cycle heads to Portland to face the 40-56 LumberJax. |
Game #1: | Alex Amarista hits two solo HRs for Portland, but that is the sum of their offense, as the Cycle ride a strong pitcher performance by Asher to get the win. CRK 6 POR 2 |
Game #2: | Both team’s offenses dry up, or should I say, the pitching was extremely good. Neither team scores an earned run, but the 1 un-earned run by the Cycle was enough for the win. Cycle kept Portland to two hits, and Faria goes 8 innings giving up only one. CRK 1 POR 0 |
Game #3: | Jose Berrios pitches strong for the Cycle, holding Portland to just one run. CRK 4 POR 1 |
Game #4: | Whalen gets the complete game shutout for Corktown as the pitching dominance continues. CRK 3 POR 0 |
Game #5: | Portland sleeping offense finally wakes up, plating 5 in the 5th. Corktown made a run with seven runs in the next 4 innings, but Portland adds some insurance and gets the win. Hosmer his two HRs for the Cycle (17). POR 10 CRK 7 |
Game #6: | Portland wins a back and forth affair with a run in the bottom of the 9th. POR 7 CRK 6 |
Series Summary: | Portland continues to slide after an over-achieving start. 42-60, and Corktown is sniffing .500 at 50-52. |
Southbend Lynx @ Motor City Muscle |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | SouthBend at Motor City for 6 games. |
Game #1: | SBL 11 – MCM 6
WP: M. Barnes HR: SBL–Trumbo; MCM–Trout Southbend jumped on de Grom early, but MCM came back to take a 6-3 lead that the MCM staff couldn’t hold. |
Game #2: | SBL 9 – MCM 5
WP: Banda HR: SBL–Altuve, Cozart, Jaso, Joyce; MCM–V. Martinez, Freese Slugfest is won by four SBL home runs, as MCM starter struggles early once again. |
Game #3: | SBL 8 – MCM 4
WP: N. Martinez HR: SBL–Cahna (2), Lowrie, Trumbo Another four SBL home runs send MCM to another loss. Mark Cahna had two of the homers. |
Game #4: | MCM 4 – SBL 0
WP: Leake (CG) HR: MCM–Kendrick Mike Leake no-hits SBL! He had a perfect game going until a 7th inning walk. He walked one more in the 9th, but brushed it off to finish off the no-no with ease. |
Game #5: | SBL 8 – MCM 4
WP: D. Holland HR: SBL–Cozart Justin Verlander gave up back-to-back four-run innings early. |
Game #6: | MCM 5 – SBL 3
WP: de Grom HR: MCM–Castellanos, Panik; SBL–Gale This time MCM scores early, holding on despite a 9th-inning injury to closer Wade Davis. |
Series Summary: | SBL takes the series 4 games to 2. The only thing that went right for MCM was Mike Leake’s Game 4 No-Hitter. Wade Davis injured for 5 games SBL had 11 HRs; MCM had 6 MCM’s starters pitched like they had the 3 ratings, instead of SBL’s starters SBL’s bullpen was lights out, while MCM’s bullpen allowed crucial add-on runs all series |
Columbus Explorers @ Bethesda Bandicoots |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | We’re in for a crappy series … |
Game #1: | Erasmo Ramirez pitches way way better than expected and the Bandicoots win fairly easily 5-1 although with a short pen and Ramirez on the mound every batter was a pretty good bet for a run for Columbus. |
Game #2: | Did I mention the short pen in game 1? Tyson Ross’s up until now brilliant performance takes an ugly turn and he is left in to save the bullpen throwing a complete game in a 15-2 drubbing by Columbus. Ian Desmond (you are still alive?) goes 3/4 with a homer and four RBIs to lead Columbus. |
Game #3: | Eduardo Nunez goes 4/4 and drives in three as the Explorers capitalize on shoddy defence by Bethesda scoring two unearned runs in a 4-2 win. |
Game #4: | Another close game but yet another anemic offensive showing by Bethesda as they can’t solve Parker Bridwell and Company and lose 3-2 in 10 innings to Columbus thanks to a crappy Paul Dejong sac fly. |
Game #5: | Again no offense … again extra innings … again Bethesda loses. DeJong again on a solo homer off Alex Cobb to tie it and then Ryan Zimmerman off Ryan Tepera to win it in the 12th. |
Game #6: | Apathy sets in and in a simmed game Bethesda is inspired to score five times, but Columbus is even more inspired and scores six. |
Series Summary: | Dog days of summer and ennui setting in … Bethesda drops 5 of 6. Oh well. |
Hollywood Werewolves @ Yonge Street Stalkers |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | The Werewolves head north…smelling blood. |
Game #1: | Clayton Kershaw. Nuff said. CGSO. Paul Goldschmidt had 2 of HOL’s 4 hits, they were both HR’s. Taijuan Walkers nice performance was dwarfed. HOL 3 – YSS 0 |
Game #2: | The home team Stalkers put on a show. Doug Fister was the first of 3 straight HOL pitchers to give up 2 homers. In addition to the 6 (six!) homers, YSS added a couple doubles among their 13 hits. Mike Zunino swatted 3 of the homers himself and Gerrit Cole was nice. YSS 8 – HOL 2 |
Game #3: | Pinch hitter Kris Bryant walked off the home team in a tense, nail biter. Paul Goldschmidt had 2 more homers. YSS 3 – HOL 2 |
Game #4: | Ivan Nova was somehow brilliant. Joe Kelly whiffed 2 in the 9th to finish it up. The Werewolves had 3 errors and 4 hits (all singles). YSS 5 – HOL 0 |
Game #5: | John Lackey tossed 6 sloppy (1H, 5 BB) but effective innings. The visitors plated 10 runs on 10 hits. Michael Pineda took most of the Werewolf abuse in his 3+ innings. HOL 10 – YSS 3 |
Game #6: | A nice bookend for Kershaw. He allowed 2 H and a walk and that somehow added up to an unearned run. HOL 6 – YSS 1 |
Series Summary: | A split. The YSS injuries are close to subsiding (although they lost Blanco (2 days) and d’arnaud (5 days) in gm 4 to shorten the bench even more for the final 2 games. Obviously, Kershaw will be among the faves for Pitcher of Week. 18 IP, 6H, 3BB, 22K, 1 unearned run. Yikes. Paul Goldschmidt had 4 homers and 5 RBI in the first 3 games. |
