Tempe  Tempers @ Rosemere  Renegades

Series Preview:  The team with the fewest wins in the NL host the team with the most.

Tempe 2-0
Game #5:  Lester threw his second complete game of the series with 10 SO. “Juicy” went deep again as Tempe rolled.
Tempe 10-3
Game #6:  Votto and Bogaerts hit home runs and Chen tossed a rather un-impressive complete game shutout for the win.
Tempe 5-0
Series Summary:  Tempe out scored Rosemere 53 to 10 and walked away with a sweep. Wellington “Juicy Juice” Castillo was impressive in limited action, but the player of the series was John Lester. Lester had two complete game victories and he also went 3 for
8 with 1HR and 5 RBI. Rosemere is looking like they’ll have the most ping pong balls in the draft lotto.

Tijuana  Bottle Rockets @ Fremont  Cannons

Game #4:  Erik Skoglund saves a bullpen that has seen a lot of work lately, allowing only two unearned runs in the 6-2 Fremont win.
Game #5:  This one looked to be over early, but became a slugfest late, with each team scoring five in the ninth and each team with three home runs. A grand slam from Justin Upton helped Tijuana secure the 16-11 victory.
Game #6:  Another high scoring game… at least for Tijuana. Corey Kluber allows only one hit in the CGSO. The Bottle Rocket offense teed off on Jaime Garcia, who was left to take it for the team. Tijuana wins 15-0. T.J. Rivera is injured for 11 days after a HBP.

Manhattan  Project @ Yonge Street  Stalkers

Series Preview:  The Project visited Yonge Street in what seemed a pretty even matchup.
Game #1:  Rick Porcello tossed 5 strong innings before leaving due to slight injury (rest of day). The pen gave up one run after his exit. 5 guys from MAN combined to plate 6 runs. MAN 6 – YSS 2
Game #2:  Gerrit Cole allowed just one run in 7+ innings, while Hicks and Thames homered to pace the home team. YSS 4 – MAN 1
Game #3:  The Stalker bullpen coughed this one up. The Project scored 3 in the top of the 9th off Alvarado and Kela. Yuck. This was good old fashioned “small ball”. MAN tallied 3 doubles and 10 singles, swiping 4 bags along the way. MAN 7 – YSS 5
Game #4:  Tyler Chatwood gave up 4 runs in 5 innings, Matt Cain surrendered 5 runs in his 6+ innings. The winning runs were scored in the top of the 4th. Both pens were awesome. MAN 5 – YSS 4
Game #5:  The Project brought the lumber out. This time, more than half (8 of 15) of the MAN hits went for extra bases. Tanaka pitched well enough to pick up his 5th win. MAN 11 – YSS 5
Game #6:  Porcello came back from game 1’s early exit very nicely. He went the distance and allowed just one earned run. Ramos and Moss homered for the winners. MAN 8 – YSS 3
Series Summary:  Manhattan took 5 of 6 and punched Yonge Street in the gut. The 2 teams will re-match after the break in Manhattan.

Harsens Island  Walleye @ Portland  Lumber Jax

Game #1:  Walleyes pitching shuts down Portland as Urena goes 8 giving up just one run, and Rodney comes on for the save.
HIW 4 POR 1
Game #2:  Again Portland’s offense sputters and never gets started, as Harsens Island doesn’t allow an earned run. Andriese and Dunn/Storen combine for the damage this time.
HIW 8 POR 1

Game #3:  Valdosta 3-2 (11 innings). Another ho hum walk off win, this time on an Ender Inciarte hit.
Game #4:  Corktown 6-4. The Cycle made short work of Randall Delgado as he only lasted 5 innings. Snappers waste 2 HR’s from Kurt Suzuki in the loss.
Game #5:  Corktown 8-2. The Cycle rapped out 14 hits on the way to an easy win for Berrios (10-2).
Game #6:  Valdosta 1-0. The Snappers didn’t have a hit until Ender Inciarte’s game winning walk off 2B in the bottom of the 9th.
Game #7:  Valdosta 4-3 (10 innings). You guessed it. Another walk off by the Snappers as a Josh Doaldson HR was the game winner in the 10th.
Series Summary:  Valdosta gets 4 walk off wins and takes the series 5-2. The home fans sure got their money’s worth in this series!

Triple Creek  Patriots @ Bethesda  Bandicoots

Series Preview:  The Bethesda Bandicoots head into week 13 hearing footsteps and checking back over their shoulder after dropping 8 of their past 10 games and the Pittsburgh Lumber Company hot on their heels only 5-1/2 out. The NL West 2nd place Triple Creek Patriots are a team heading in the opposite direction winning their past 7 games … oyvay.
Game #1:  It was Kate Upton Bobble-parts Day at Bethesda Stadium with Triple Creek ace Alex Wood taking on woefully outclassed Tyson Ross who got the nod for Bethesda after the ‘Coots manager forgot to replace him on the roster with Alex Cobb.
Stats be damned – this is why we play the games …
Ross lasts five innings and leaves the game down 3-1 with Wood in a groove, but then the Bethesda bats wake up and from the bottom of the 5th to the 7th inning the lefty goes from giving up 7 homers on the year to 11 as Bethesda comes from behind to take the opener 5-4.
Anthony Rendon (12) started the power surge with a solo shot off Wood in the bottom of the 1st inning, but the Patriots erased that run and added two more in the 3rd inning when Chase Headley singled with the bases loaded to drive in two runs (he was 3/3 on the day!) and then Jonathan Villar grounded out to bring in another.
Aledmys Diaz came on to replace Alen Hanson (who just about killed himself crashing into the right field wall after chasing down – unsuccessfully – Cody Bellinger’s fly ball in the 3rd inning) and took Wood deep for a run in the bottom of the 5th.
Austin Brice came in to relieve Ross in the top of the 6th with Bethesda down one and was completely useless walking two and allowing two base hits and miraculously allowed only one run to score on a Andy Susac double thanks to getting a big time bail out by normally not all that dependable Bethesda reliever Jonathan Holder.
Then in the bottom of the 6th with Triple Creek up 4-2, Logan Morrison started to heat up and hammered one into the centre field stands with Rendon on base to tie things up.
Wood’s finale came the next inning when defensive sub Brad Miller yanked one just over the right field wall to complete the comeback.
Game #2:  Not a pretty game for pitchers of the starting breed…
Bethesda starter Hyun-Jin Ryu made all of 9 outs and departed with his team down 6-2 in the bottom of the 3rd inning. It was a blessedly short but anything but pretty afternoon for Ryu who gave up six hits and three walks in just three innings of work – the one thing he didn’t do was allow the ball to leave the park.
Fortunately for Ryu where he was horrible, Triple Creek’s Kevin Gausman was Freddy Kruger horrorshow … Gasman only had it in him to get 7 outs but managed to walk five and give up six hits in the process which added up to 8 earned runs on the day six of which occurred in Bethesda’s 10-run 3rd inning.
All in all, the Bandicoots churned out 19 hits and doubled the Patriots 16-8.
Marwin Gonzalez led the Patriots with a bases loaded and clearing double in the Pats’ 5-run 3rd inning and also scored a run. Chase Headley had another good game at the plate with two hits and a run scored.
For Bethesda, Logan Morrison (did I mention last game he was heating up?) was a cool 3/3 with a walk, a homer, three runs scored and 5 RBIs. Anthony Rendon also had three hits including a double and scored four times with two RBIs and Trevor Story had three hits.
Game #3:  Thank you, sir. May I have another?
Bethesda scores in each of the first four innings including four in yet another big 3rd inning as they cruise to a 11-3 win over bewildered AJ Griffin and Company.
The Bandicoots bettered their long ball output from the first game by one with Lorenzo Cain homering twice, Logan Morrison homering twice and even little ol’ Michael Saunders leaving the park once.
For Morrison, it was his second straight 3-hit game and his 2nd straight 5-RBI game which game him 12 RBIs in the first three games of the series.
Game #4:  A day off mid-series, gave the pitchers arms time to recuperate but the bullpens were not needed in this one.
Erasmo Ramirez outduelled Triple Creek starter Kendall Graveman by throwing eight shutout innings as Bethesda hung on to win 2-0. Ramirez scattered seven hits, walked two and fanned six in the process while Graveman gave up both runs in 6.2 innings allowing seven hits, a single walk and striking out five.
No homers in this one for Morrison so he stalled at four but he added yet another RBI in a two-hit performance with an RBI single in the 1st inning. Trevor Story’s line drive that almost decapitated Graveman in the 3rd brought in the only other run in the game.
Caleb Joseph, Andrew Benintendi, and Michael Brantley each had a pair of hits for the Patriots in a losing effort.
Game #5:  The Bethesda Bandicoots staged their own version of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly with only the latter two parts being played as they fell mightily to the Patriots 9-0.
The Good (Cody Bellinger) belted his jaw-dropping 34th homer of the season and added a double to bring home three runs in the game. Also Good was Chase Headley who continued to rake at the plate getting three hits and driving in three runs.
The Bad (Aledmys Diaz) dropped a ball in the 2nd inning and threw one away in the 7th as the Bandicoots gave starting shortstop Trevor Story a day off. The two-error masterpiece led to an unearned run and was his 3rd screw-up of the series.
The F-Ugly (John Gant) gave up five runs (only two earned) in five innings and committed two errors in the same 4th inning which led to two unearned runs.
Oh yeah … Jharel Cotton was none-too shabby, going the distance for the two-hit shutout. Just for shits and giggles he struck out 10 Bandicoots, too. Nice!
Game #6:  In a rematch of the first game duel between Alex Wood of Triple Creek and Tyson Ross of Bethesda, the crud throwing Bandicoot played the role of David to Wood’s Goliath allowing just one in seven innings as the home team captured its 5th win of the series 7-1.
Lorenzo Cain and Logan Morrison were at it again, each homering with Cain smacking a solo shot in the 7th as he and Travis Shaw went back-to-back as a nice follow-up to Morrison’s three-run shot in the 6th that ruined a tight 1-0 game.
Series Summary:  A series that Triple Creek’s lefty ace Alex Wood would like to forget after allowing five homers in two starts and only seven in all his previous starts and a series that Bethesda 1st baseman Logan Morrison won’t soon forget after stroking five homers and 14 RBIs in the six games.
