Valdosta  Snappers @ Portland  Lumber Jax

Series Preview:  The Valdosta Snappers (27-24 3rd place in the NL Central) visit the Portland LumberJax (24-29 2nd place in NL West)
Game #1:  Adam Conley on the mound for Portland, 2-0 with a 1.55 ERA. WHAT?! True story. Snappers snap Conley back to reality with four big runs capped of by a Donaldson HR (his 16th in 40 games!). Valdosta would strike again bigtime in the 8th with four more runs to run the score to 9-0.
Portland manager two runs (for pride) in the bottom of the ninth. Maeda goes 7 innings and gives up just two hits and not walks.
VAL 9, POR 2
Game #2:  Jeff Mathis starts the scoring with a solo HR in the 2nd for Portland. Conforto then blasts a 3-run HR in the 3rd for the 4-1 Portland lead. Portland hangs on for the 4-2 win, despite only getting 3 hits!
Game #3:  Portland’s Zach Eflin pitches a 4-hit 1-run complete game. Seriously. Kevin Pillar leads the way for Portland offensive with a double and HR.
POR 3, VAL 1
Game #4:  Hernan Perez hits a two runner HR in the bottom of the 3rd to start the scoring for Portland. Seth Smith says ‘anything you can do I an do better’, and he smacks a 3-run HR for the Snappers.
With the game tied at 3-all… CJ Cron celebrates coming back from injury with a 3-run blast for Portland.
In the 8th, Seth Smith strikes again for Valdosta, this time with a double driving in two runs. 6-5 Portland, and that would be were it ended. Portland squeaks out its 3 straight close one.
POR 6, VAL 5
Game #5:  Portland gets 3 runs in the first inning, and coasts to the 4-2 win.
Game #6:  Chris Young bops a 2-run HR for Val to start the scoring. With the Snappers leading 3-0 in the 2nd inning, starter Delgado walked off the mound with and injury… (26 days). His replacement, Feldman, then walks off in the 3rd inning with a 17 day injury! AIM has got the ass (as they would say when I was in the Army). The Snappers hold onto the lead and with 2-outs and closer Kimbrel on the mound… looked poised for certain victory, but Kevin Kivlenhan hit is 2nd HR of the game to tie it up. Extras!
In the bottom of the 15th inning, Alex Amarista singles in Kivlehan to give Portland the win.
POR 4, VAL 3
Game #7:  C.J. Cron hits a grand salami in the 3rd inning for Portland, and Freeland advances to a A before he gives up any runs, as Portland wins 8-2
Series Summary:  Portland amazingly wins 6 of 7. Even the manager is a bit stymied how this team is at .500. Granted, I have never been in a 28 team league before… but still… it seems to me this team is playing waaay over their heads. Snappers fall 2 games under .500.

Mesa  Solar Sox @ Fremont  Cannons

Series Preview:  Two middle of the road teams match up in Fremont and Mesa.
Game #1:  Ben Lively improves to 3-2 as Mesa knocks around the Cannons 10-2, mustering 17 hits in the effort.
Game #2:  Another Mesa blowout. Yonder Alonso homers twice in the 9-1 Mesa win.
Game #3:  Three errors don’t hurt Fremont in this one. Byron Buxton’s two-run homer leads the Cannons to the 4-1 victory.
Game #4:  Eric Skoglund racks up 13 strikeouts against the Solar Sox, but three Mesa runs in the top of the ninth put this out of reach. Mesa wins 7-3 with home runs by Eddie Rosario and Eugenio Suarez.
Game #5:  The ball was flying in this one as Mesa out-slugged Fremont 6-2. Yonder Alonso, Eugenio Suarez, and Brandon Drury homered for Mesa, while Jonathan Schoop and Khris Davis went deep for Fremont in defeat.
Game #6:  This one went to twelve innings before Mesa pulled it out, 7-4.
Series Summary:  Mesa takes the series 5-1. Not sure who the hero is, but the goat would have to be Shane Greene for Fremont. In three appearances, he allowed 7 ER, and another 2 inherited runners to score.

Virginia  Sluggers @ Tijuana  Bottle Rockets

Series Preview:  Tijuana hosts Virginia for 7 games.
Series Summary:  Tijuana wins series 5-2.

Motor City  Muscle @ Coconut Creek  Crushers

Series Preview:  First vs Last
Game #1:  Degrom hrows a complete game 2-hitter with 15 K’s as MCM wins 4-0.
Game #2:  Peacock and bullpen return the favor as CCC wins 8-0.
Game #3:  The trend continues as Verlander throws his own 3-hitter in a 5-0 MCM win.
Game #4:  CCC puts up 4 runs against Hendricks but it doesn’t matter. He gets 5 HR’s of support in an easy 0-4 MCM win.
Game #5:  CCC hits 3 HR’s off Degrom and Samardija is strong. CCC wins 6-2.
Game #6:  Blake Snell is strong and CCC wins the finale 6-3.
Series Summary:  CCC earns a 3-3 split against a much stronger team. Good sign for next year.

Rosemere  Renegades @ Columbus  Explorers

Series Preview:  The Rosemere Renegades come to Columbus for 7 games and when a pitching challenged group mets a high octane offense it can be ugly – and that’s about what happened, but not all ugly for the Renegades….
Game #1:  Tightest game of the series as Renegades get the 1-0 lead in the 3rd when Erik Gonzalez gets an rbi single. Phil Hughes then hangs tough and the Explorers plate 3 in the 6th on a Enrique Hernandez homer (3). An 8th inning Gonzalez homer (1) gets the Renegades back to within 1, but that was all.
RRG 2-8-0 LP Luiz Gohara (1-5)
COL 3-7-0 WP Hughes (4-1) S David Robertson (11)
Game #2:  Explorers start early – the 1st, Dee Gordon homers (1) to lead-off, Tyler Flowers then drives in 2 more. It was 5-0 before the Renegades get on the board with a Brandon Crawford rbi single and an unearned run, but it wasn’t enough.
RRG 2-4-0 LP Dillon Peters (1-4)
COL 5-9-1 WP Josh Tomlin (8-1)
Game #3:  Things started going downhill for Rosemere in game 3 – Explorers had 4 multiple run scoring innings enroute to a 10-0 win. Ervin Santana goes 6 for the win. Shin-Soo Choo hits 2 homers (6, 7).
RRG 0- 6-0 LP Francisco Liriano
COL 10-10-0 WP Santana (5-2)
Game #4:  Things continued the downward slide for Rosemere as their staff gives up 22 hits and 17 runs in a game where the final is 17-2. AND it was 2-0 after 1/2 inning a as Gregory Parra triples in 1 and then scores on a Brandon Crawford single. Charlie Blackmon (12) responds with a 2 run shot in the bottom half and we heard no more from the Renegades. Eduardo Nunez goes 6 for 6 (as 1 of 3 guys to play the whole game) with 2 rbis and 3 runs scored. Jesus Sucre came in to the game when Tyler Flowers was beaned (again) and the doctors expect a lengthy DL time (he’s gpt more than 3 weeks of downtime staring him int the face.
RRG 2- 8-3 LP Jerad Eickhoff (3-6)
COL 17-22-0 WP J.A. Happ (5-3)
Game #5:  Phil Hughes has another stellar outing going 8.1 innings, 3 hits and 14 ks! Oh and gave up NO (0) runs. While that was going on this teammates plated 15 runs but only 2 extra base hits – a double and triple from Charlie Blackmon.
RRG 0- 3-1 LP Gsellman (2-5)
COL 15-18-1 WP Hughes (5.1)
Game #6:  Renegades finally solve Josh Tomlin – nailing him for 11 hits and 5 runs in 4.2 innings. Then the pitching staff needed to dg in and they did. Brandon Crawford led the attack going 4 for 5 with 3 rbis and 2 runs (3 doubles in the game). Wallach had a double, 2 hits and 3 more RBIs. Jayson Aquino a strong 8 innings gets the win (8 i[p, 7 hits, 7 ks, 1 run).
RRG 6-16-1 WP Luis Aguoni
COL 2- 8-1 LTomlin (8-2)
Game #7:  Final game another shutout as Lance McCullers returns from the DL. Even downgraded for itchyness to a 3 he held the Renegades to 3 hits. Offensively the Explorers banged out 11 hits including 4 homers: Russell Martin (2), Charlie Blackmon (13), Paul DeJong (8) and Shin-Soo Choo (8).
RRG 0- 3-3 LP Luiz Gohara (1-6)
COL 7-11-0 WP McCullers (4-0)
Series Summary:  Columbus wins 6 of 7 from Rosemere. Worst think of the week as 23 game injury to Tyler Flowers.

Dallas  Cougars @ Yonge Street  Stalkers

Series Summary:  The Cougars took 4 of 6 from the struggling Stalkers. The low-light was the opener. Robert Stephenson was “Cito Gastoned”. He labored as long as he could and surrendered 17 earned runs.

Harsens Island  Walleye @ Selkirk  Steelers

Series Summary:  No File – Selkirk takes 5 of 6 from the Walleye.

Tempe  Tempers @ Bethesda  Bandicoots

Series Summary:  Tempe & Bethesda split the 6 game set.

Jersey  Nor’easters @ Triple Creek  Patriots

Series Preview:  Nor’easters (24-27) take on the Patriots (21-31) in a 6 game set.
Game #1:  Patriots built up a big early lead but the bullpen falters as Jersey comes back from a 7-0 deficit to take it in the 11th inning.

Hernandez and Bruce (4 RBI) both 3-6 to lead the Nor’easter attack.

JN 8 TCP 7

WP – Hader (3)
LP – Reed (4)
SV – Hunter (1)

Game #2:  Triple Creek returns the late game favor by scoring 2 in the 8th and 1 in the 9th for extra frames again. Bellinger’s pinch hit 3-run job in the 10th pushes the Patriots over the top.

JN 4 TCP 7

WP – Jennings (2)
LP – Hader (2)
SV – None

Game #3:  Lucky seven keeps rolling for Triple Creek as they take this one 7-3. Seager with a 2-run shot and Brantley’s 2 RBI power the Patriots. Pham 3-5 w/ 2 doubles.

JN 3 TCP 7

WP – Wood (3)
LP – Lamte (3)
SV – None

Game #4:  A day off was just what the Nor’easters needed as they pound out 15 hits and 14 runs. Santana 4-5 w 3RBI, Odor 3-5 w 3 RBI and Ramirez 3-4 w 3 RBI lead the drubbing. Patriots score 7 for the 4th game in a row.

JN 14 TCP 7

WP – Straily (6)
LP – Gausman (3)
SV – None

Game #5:  Another extra inning affair with the home team plating one in the 11th. Montgomery just didn’t have it today as he allows 2 hits without recording an out.

JN 3 TCP 4

WP – Krick (2)
LP – Montogomery (3)
SV – None

Game #6:  Each team tally 9 hits but Triple Creeks 8 extra base hits to Jersey’s 5 is the difference. Four Nor’easters go 2-4.

JN 3 TCP 6

WP – Griffin (1)
LP – Garza (5)
SV – Jennings (3)

Series Summary:  Patriots take 4 of 6 in a series where 3 need extra innings.

Corktown  Cycle @ Pittsburgh  Lumber Company

Series Summary:  In a very tight series – 5 of the 6 games were decided by 1 run, and 2 went extra frames – Pittsburgh can only manage a split.

Chicago  Mobsters @ Southbend  Lynx

Series Preview:  Chicago, a good team, travels to play Southbend, a not so good team.
Game #1:  SBL Jaso starts scoring with solo-HR in B2. Cozart rbi-3b in B5 makes it 2-0 SBL. On the mound Banda is tossing a gem going through 8 having given up only 2 hits. But in the T9 CHI strikes as Fowler leads off with a 2b, Bregman follows with an rbi-3b. After Freemna pops out, Turner hits a little roller to Jaso who boots it allowing Bregman to score. Banda is allowed to stay in and gets two 6-3 groundouts to end the inning. Banda gets to stay on in the 10th for his last inning and pitches around a Reyes 1b & sb. In the B10 Osuna rips a 2-out 1b, Canha PRs, and Jaso wins the game with a H&R rbi-2b. Banda gets his 7th win. Chapman with the loss.

SBL 3, CHI 2 (10 inn)

Game #2:  SBL looks like they might make CHI unhappy in this series as they get a Gale 2-run 1b in the B2, and a Joyce rbi-1b in the B3 for a early 3-0 lead. But CHI erupts for 6 runs in the T5 with the big hit being a McCutchen Grandslam. SBL Forsythe rips a 2-run 1b in the B6 to cut into the lead. Both teams trade runs in the 7th, but CHI puts it away with 2 runs in the T8 on a Freeman 2-run HR. CHI Teheran gets the win with the help of 5 CHI relievers. Chapman notches his 16th save.

CHI 9, SBL 6

Game #3:  Another high scoring game. Its 5-5 after 3 innings. In the T4 a Fowler rbi-1b and a Bregman 2-run 1b give CHI the lead 8-5. The game is scoreless through the next 3 innings until the CHI 8th when McCutchen rips a 2-run 1b. SBL get the runs back on Cozart and Trumbo rbi-1bs. In the B9 Lowrie rips an rbi-2b, But CHI A.Miller fans Altuve to end the game with the tying runs on 2nd & 3rd. Sabathia gets roughed up going 1.2 IP giving up 4 runs. Betances gets the win and Miller his 1st save.

CHI 10, SBL 8

Game #4:  CHI opens the scoring with 1st inning solo-HRs from Fowler and Freeman. CHI Reyes would add a 3-run HR in the T6. CHI pitching is too much for SBL as Quintana goes 5.2 giving up 1 run, and 4 CHI relievers shut the door the rest of the way. SBL lone run comes on a Altuve rbi-1b in the B6. Quintana gets his 6th win.

CHI 5, SBL 1

Game #5:  SBL Altuve opens the scoring with an rbi-1b in the B1. CHI ties it in the T3 on a Bregman solo-HR. CHI pulls away with 2 in the T6 on a Hamilton rbi-1b and a Bregman bases loaded rbi-bb. CHI adds 2 more in the T7 on a Simmons sac fly and Hamilton rbi-3b. The CHI pitching is dominate again as they shut down the SBL after the 1st. Stroman gets the win going 5IP giving up 1 run. SBL threaten enough in the B9 to allow Chapman to get his 17th save.

CHI 5, SBL 1

Game #6:  SBL opens the scoring once again with a Trumbo rbi-2b in the B2. But CHI comes right back in the T3 as Martinez swats a 2-run HR (his 8th game in a row with a HR!). CHI would add two more token runs. SBL can’t break through the CHI pitching once again. C.Martinez gets the win and Chapman gets his 18th save.

CHI 4, SBL 1

Game #7:  This game was nothing like the previous 3 games as there were runs galore. SBL finally broke out of their funk scoring 4 in the B1, but CHI would answer with 6 in the T2. SBL takes the lead back with 3 in the B3. But CHI would put the game away with 3 runs in the T5, T6, and T7. CHI has 16 runs on 22 hits, but does not hit s HR in the game. In fact there are 25 runs scored on 37 hits by both teams without any HRs being hit. McCutchen goes 4 for 6 w/3 rbi. Fowler is 3 for 5 w/ 3 rbi, a 2b & 3b. Turner, Simmons, and Hamilton also have 3 hits each for CHI. SBL Escobar is 4 for 5 w/3 runs scored. Betances gets his 4th win. Banda takes the loss as he can’t match his magic from his first start in the series.
Series Summary:  CHI takes the series 6-1 as they crush the SBL after the 1st game. SBL must’ve pissed them off or something.
