Game #1:  A 2-run blast by Pittsburgh’s Randal Grichuk starts the scoring. Portland’s SP Eflin gets ejected on the next pitch as he protested Grichuk’s bat flip with a pitch at Lucroy’s head. PITT 6 POR 0

POR 3 PITT 1
Game #3:  Difo with the solo shot in the bottom of the second for Portland, but Judge quickly answers back with one of his own for Pitt. Game is tied 2-2 in the B8 when a two-out two-run single by Mickie Mahtook gives Portland the lead for good.
POR 4 PITT 2
Game #4:  All Pittsburg in this one as Grichuk hits two homers on Polanco adds another. Kuhl and McGee combine for the shutout.

POR 3 PITT 2
Game #6: Pittsburgh Shuts out Portland 6-0
Series Summary:  The first LumberBowl ends up with two trees leaning on each other, but the Company always beats up on the employees.

Motor City  Muscle @ Virginia  Sluggers

Series Preview:  Motor City, atop their division, rolls into Virginia trying to hold that position.
Game #1:  MCM 4-3 W- Mike Leake (4-2) L-Tim Adleman (3-3) SV-A.J.Ramos (1)

MCM gets 3 in the 4th on RBI’s by Dustin Garneau and Leonys Martin to go up 3-1. VIR comes back to tie it in the 6th, but Joe Panik’s SF in the 7th gives MCM the lead and the bullpen shuts down the Gents to preserve the win.

Game #2:  VIR 4-1 W-Chris Archer (4-4) L-Ariel Miranda (3-4) SV-Flipe Rivero (9)

Chris Archer was tuff on the mound. 8 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 2 BB, and 15 K’s. Still, the game was tied going into the 8th. However, back-to-back doubles by Carlos Santana and Neil Walker gave VIR a slim lead that Felipe Rivero made stand up.

Game #3:  MCM 19-3 W-Jacob deGrom (7-3) L-Trevor Cahill (1-6)

A laugher. 22 hits for the Muscle. 5 Home Runs, including 2 by Mike Trout, who had a 5-6 day and is hitting at a .422 clip as well. Oh, and he added 5 RBI just because he could. Add to that the fact that Jacob deGrom only allowed 2 hits in 6 innings and MCM coasted to the win.

Game #4:  MCM 4-0 W-Kyle Hendricks (9-0) L-Trevor Williams (3-3)

Well, if you are an undefeated starting pitcher facing VIR, it stands to reason you will remain undefeated. Hendricks threw a CG 2-hit shutout and never ran into trouble. Mike Trout continued to raise his batting average with a 2-3 day and the Muscle scored 3 runs in the 5th to nail down the win.

Game #5:  VIR 11-9 W- Luis Perdomo (5-1) L-Justin Verlander (4-4) SV-Felipe Rivero (10)

VIR scored 4 in the 3rd and 5 in the 4th to jump out to a 9-4 lead and almost lost it. Neil Walker’s 2-run double in the 3rd and Clint Fraizer’s 3-run triple in the 4th were the big blows. Orlando Arcia had a nice day at the plate for MCM as he went 4-5 with a homer and 4 RBI.

Game #6:  MCM 3-2 W-Mike Leake (5-2) L-Tim Adleman (3-4) SV-A.J.Ramos (2)

Afetr trading homers in the 1st inning, MCM’s by Mike trout and VIR’s by Anthony Rizzo, the Gents pulled ahead on a George Springer double in the 3rd to lead 2-1. But they couldn’t hold it. MCM’s Nick Castellanos blasted a 2-run dinger in the 7th and the bullpen muscle came in to pitch 1.2 innings of 1 hit no run ball to preserve the series win for MCM.

Series Summary:  Motor City takes the series 4-2.
Mike Trout- 9-17, 9 runs, 6 RBI, 3 HR. Orlando Arcia 9-20, 6 runs, 5 RBI, 2 HR.
For VIR,…well…Carlos Santana was 5-15 with a HR and 3 RBIMCM stays on the road and takes on another cellar dweller on Coconut Creek while Virginia goes on the road to face another front runner in Tijuana.

Long Beach  Dirt Bags @ Bethesda  Bandicoots

Series Preview:  The Dirt Bags head east to square off against the Bandicoots for a 7-game set as we move well into the 2nd quarter of the season.
Game #1:  In what would become a recurring theme in the series, the starting pitching was a fiasco.
Bethesda jumped into a 2-0 against Tyler Skaggs in the 1st inning, Long Beach followed suit with five runs in the 2nd inning chasing Sonny Gray in the process, the Banidcoots countered with two runs in the bottom of the 2nd which meant adios Senor Skaggs to make it 5-4 and then leapfrogged into the lead with another pair in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The teams swapped single runs in the 4th and 5th to make it 7-6 Bethesda after five.
Bethesda ended the tension with three runs in each of the 7th and 8th though to end it 13-6 with the Bandicoots doling out 18 hits. Aledmys Diaz, Lorenzo Cain and Jarrod Dyson each had three hits for Bethesda with one of Dyson’s leaving the park.
Jeremy Hellickson lasted 5-plus innings for Long Beach allowing six earned runs (only one of which was earned) thanks to shoddy defence by Luis Valbuena, Bruce Maxwell, and Chase d’Arnaud.
W-Tepera (3-0) L-Hellickson (3-4) Sv-none
HR-LBD: none; BET: Dyson (2)
Game #2:  Aledmys Diaz had three hits for the second straight game as Bethesda topped Long Beach 5-2.

HR-LBD: Dietrich (4); BET: Chirinos (3)
Game #3:  Jake Arrieta came into the game for Bethesda itchy but pitched smoothly for eight shutout innings as the Bandicoots crept past Long Beach 2-0.
W-Arrieta (4-4) L-Fiers (0-9) Sv-Cishek (11)
HR-none
Game #4:  The Bandicoots broke open a 2-2 tie with a 4-run 8th inning and Robinson Chirinos bashed two homers as the home team went on to win 6-2.
Derek Dietrich homered for the 2nd time in the series for Long Beach and drove in both of their runs.
W-Lyons (1-0) L-Lynn (4-2) Sv-none
HR-LBD: Dietrich (5); BET: Chirinos 2 (5)
Game #5:  Alex Cobb followed up his great first quarter of pitching with an absolutely brutal showing as the Dirt Bags busted him up but good scoring four times on him and chasing him before he registered an out as Long Beach took it easily 7-2.
Dustin Pedroia and Luis Valbuena did their part in giving Cobb the boot with back-to-back homers in the first inning. Bruce Maxwell chipped in with three RBIs.
W-Salazar (4-4) L-Cobb (7-2) Sv-none
HR-LBD: Pedroia (2), Valbuena (8);BET: none
Game #6:  Sonny Gray self-destructed for the 2nd time in the series and was sent packing after just two innings as the Dirt Bags scored six runs in the 2nd inning with Tyler Skaggs almost returning the favor by giving up six runs over 4-plus innings, but Long Beahc hung on to win this ugly game 8-6.
Bradley Zimmer was the hero of the day for Long Beach smashing a grand slam off Gray in the 2nd inning.
Robinson Chirinos hit his 4th homer of the series for Bethesda.
W-Hellickson (4-4) L-Gray (4-4) Sv-Kittredge (1)
HR-LBD: Zimmer (3), Valbuena (9), Span (8), Valencia (3); BET: Peralta (7), Chirinos (6)
Game #7:  Aledmys Diaz had his third 3-hit game of the series, homering in the first inning off Tyler Anderson as Bethesda came out on top 4-2.
Kevin Kiermaier had two hits including a triple, driving in one run and scoring another to lead the Dirt Bags.
W-Arrieta (5-4) L-T. Anderson (1-4) Sv-Cishek (12)
HR-LBD: none; BET: Diaz (4)
Series Summary:  Bethesda takes 5 of 7 against Long Beach despite some pretty rotten starts by Alex Cobb and Sonny Gray. Derek Dietrich (LBD) and Robinson Chirinos and Aledmys Diaz all have a good series though.

Fremont  Cannons @ Yonge Street  Stalkers

Series Preview:  The Stalkers always attempt to roll out the red carpet when the Cannons come to town.
Game #1:  YSS welcomed back Michael Pineda after a lengthy DL stint. He was a little erratic (very itchy), but performed ok early on. The Stalkers attacked Skoglund early. The 8 runs YSS tallied in the second proved to be enough, but not without some drama. Pineda got dinged by a comebacker and will go BACK on the DL for 35 more days. FRE did its best, but came up just shy in the end. YSS 10 – FRE 7
Game #2:  Dylan Bundy was untouchable…until Scooter Gennett touched him for a useless 9th inning solo shot. Correa and Davis homered for the Cannons. Bundy went the distance for his 5th win. FRE 7 – YSS 1
Game #3:  Taijuan Walker gave the YSS pen some much needed rest. Each team hit a pair of solo home runs in this one, but YSS added 2 more runs. YSS 4 – FRE 2
Game #4:  Another game which saw the Cannons try to rally late and come up shy. YSS jumped on the SP early once again. Jaime Garcia (0.1 IP, 3H, 2BB, 6R/1ER) was the victim this time, hindered by some sloppy defense. Ivan Nova didn’t pitch well, but it proved to be just good enough. YSS 8 – FRE 7
Game #5:  This was an exciting, extra base hitting, nail biter. The home team swatted 4 homers including a game tying solo shot in the btm of the 9th. The Cannons poured out 6 doubles, a triple, and a pair of homers to reverse the outcome from the prior game. FRE 8 – YSS 7
Game #6:  Adam Frazier attempted to bunt with the bases full, but fouled it off. He hit a Grand Slam instead. That was plenty for Marco Estrada. YSS 6 – FRE 1
Game #7:  Matt Cain was too much for the Cannons. Yuck. YSS 5 – FRE 2
Series Summary:  Michael Pineda is cursed. YSS takes 5 of 7 and remains home to host DAL. FRE returns home to take on MSS.

CCC 6, SBL 4

Game #3:  Due to some strange pitcher usage in the first two games, CCC presses Peacock into a start. The results are pretty darn good as he goes 7 shutout innings giving up only 2 hits. CCC gets 5 runs in the 1st two innings highlighted by a Smoak 2-run 2b in the T1 and a Asche 2-run HR in the T2. SBL get two token runs off CCC Font in relief but the game was never in doubt. SBL 10, CCC 5

Game #5:  CCC gets out to a 7-1 lead after 5 innings with the big hits being a Myers solo-HR and a Betts 2-run 1b. SBL get 1 in the B3 and close the gap some more with a 3-run 2b by Cozart in the B7. Cozart would add a rbi-3b in the B9 but D.Barnes holds on for his 5th save. Godley went 6 strong giving up only 2 runs for the win.

CCC 7, SBL 5

Game #6:  CCC Musgrove pitches a whale of a game going 7 innings giving up 1 run, walking none, and fanning 7. But CCC D.Barnes can’t close the deal as SBL get 3 runs in the B8 to take a 4-3 lead. Osuna would come on for the SBL and get his 6th save, Bradley picks up his 1st win. CCC built a 3-0 lead with a Bandy rbi-groundout in the 2nd, and a Asche sac fly and Grossman rbi-1b in the 4th. SBL got 1 in the 5th before their big 8th. SBL got a Altuve rbi-1b and Cozart 2-run HR in their 8th.

SBL 4, CCC 3

Game #7:  SBL puts a close 3-3 tie game away with a 7 run B8. SBL strung a bunch of hits together in the 7th with the big hit being a Gale 2-run 3b. CCC got their runs on Homeruns by Smoak, Myers, and Mercer. Foltynewicz gets the win as he tosses the CG.

SBL 10, CCC 4

Altuve has another strong series raising his season average to .400 as he goes 14 for 25, with 10 runs, 8 rbi, a double, and 4 HRs.
