Tempe  Tempers @ Selkirk  Steelers

Series Preview:  It is a mismatch the runaway first place Tempe Tempers vs the over achieving Selkirk Steelers fighting to play .500. Even tough for Selkirk Williams and Castro had to sit this series out. Tempe offence looked very good in batting practice this series could be a nightmare for Selkirk.
Game #1:  Davis homered, Cabrera homered and Chacin throws a 3 hitter (one was a Panda homer though) as Tempe wins 8-1.
Game #2:  Votto homered but Grienke wasn’t great allowing 3 runs as Selkirk gets a Spangenberg homer and Nicolino gets the win. Selkirk 4 Tempe 2
Game #3:  Selkirk hands Holland a blow save int he 9th as Valakia hits a 2 out pinch hit homer. But Adams homers in the 11th as Tempe gets the win.Tempe 5 Selkirk 4(11).
Game #4:  Gattis and Bogarts hit homers and drive in 3 each as Tempe blows out Selkirk 12-5.
Game #5:  Braun drives in 4 and comes up just a double short of the cycle. Tempe 8 Selkirk 4
Game #6:  Like game 3 Selkirk gets a dramatic comeback in the 8th to tie the game 3-3. But Davis his a pinch hit homer in the 10th to give Tempe the 4-3 win.
Game #7:  Braun drive in 3 in the first batting second???? Yes they batted around for 9 runs. Selkirk relief shut them down after that but it was game over. Tempe 9 Selkirk 6
Series Summary:  Tempe won 6 of the 7 games. Its seems hat the series felt closer but the extra inning wins went Tempes way. Pitcher of the week Chacin 2 wins 2 runs in 14 innings. Braun drove in 8 runs in 10 atbats but the tema hitting was a team effort for Tempe.

Jersey  Nor’easters @ Bethesda  Bandicoots

Series Preview:  The Bandicoots host the Nor’easters as the two teams fight for bragging rights in the NL East. Bethesda goes into the series with a 2-1/2 game edge over Jersey.
Game #1:  Homers by David Peralta, Travis Shaw and Anthony Rendon carry the day for Bethesda as they hang on to win 4-3 over Jersey.
Bethesda used eight pitchers in the game thanks to Jake Arrieta coming up without a shoulder early in the 2nd inning. Shoulder replacement surgery was scheduled before the last pitch of the game and a new bionic Arrieta should be set for action in about a week.
For Jersey, Lucas Duda reached base three times on walks and came around to score once. Domingo Santana supplied a boost to the offense with a two-run homer – his 10th of the year! – off Jonathan Holder in the 4th inning which tied the game at 2-2. Jersey took the lead in the 6th when Austin Romine’s blooper over the infield found the outfield grass and brought Duda in from 3rd to score.
Peralta (4) and Rendon (7) homered in the 7th off Jersey starter Jordan Zimmermann … oh how the mighty have fallen. Shaw’s homer in the 3rd off Zimmermann was his 2nd of the year.
Zimmermann lasted 6-1/3 and fell to 0-1 on the year allowing eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Erasmo Ramirez (1-1) was in the right place at the right time and got the win for Bethesda and finally got his ERA down below 10.00 – which is good cuz he had to start later in the series. Steve Cishek came in and threw a perfect 9th for his 7th save.
Game #2:  Bethesda hitters smack three homers off Jersey pitching for the second straight game but thanks to a continuing problem of actually getting runners on base barely manage to squeak by the Nor’easters with a 3-2 win.
David Peralta hit a game-tying homer in the 3rd inning off Marco Gonzales and then followed it up with another game-tying homer off Gonzales in the 6th to give him six on the season. Derek Norris homered off reliever Tommy Hunter (2-2) in the bottom of the 8th for the win.
Jose Ramirez and Austin Romine drove in runs for Jersey with Romine picking up a pair of hits.
Gonzales didn’t factor in the decision but pitched pretty well going 7 innings and allowing only six hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Alex Cobb improved to 6-1 on the year after allowing just a run on four hits over eight innings. He also walked three and struck out seven. Steve Cishek gave up a hit in the 9th but otherwise was solid enough to earn his 8th save of the season.
Game #3:  Domingo Santana and Jose Ramirez homered as Jersey outpaced the sleepy Bethesda Bandicoots in an easy 4-1 win for the Nor’easters.
Dan Straily (4-1) went 6-2/3 for Jersey and gave up just three hits – including a homer (solo, of course) to Trevor Story – while fanning seven and walking none. Brad Hand was perfect and got the save for number 7 on the year.
Santana came within a triple of hitting for the cycle for Jersey.
Rich Hill (4-2) was ineffective over six innings allowing three runs on seven hits to get the loss.
Game #4:  Jersey’s offense churned out a dozen hits against seven Bethesda pitchers as they cruised to a 6-0 drubbing of the dopey Bandicoots.
Jose Ramirez had four hits for Jersey including a double and a homer – his 11th – and drove in three runs. Shane Robinson had three singles and scored each time he reached base. Didi Gregorius entered the game tired, but still managed to get two hits including his 3rd homer of the year and drove in two.
On a dark note, Jersey starter Jake Junis only last four outs before his arm imploded and is expected out just over two weeks. Michael Lorenzen picked up the win to improve to 2-1 after allowing just one hit over 3-2/3 innings.
Sonny Gray (4-3) left in disgrace after giving up the back-to-back homers in the 3rd inning. The rest of the relievers – with the exception of Austin BRice who gave up three hits and two runs without registering an out – did pretty well.
Game #5:  Offense was in short supply for both teams leading to a pitchers duel (ha ha) between Matt Garza and Erasmo Ramirez that ended with the Bandicoots coming out on top 2-1 thanks to a 6th inning single by Lorenzo Cain.
Ramirez (2-1) went six innings for the win giving up just three hits and saw his ERA drop to 7.17. Steve Cishek got save #9 while Jersey’s Garza fell to 2-4. Jay Bruce (6) homered in supply of all the Jersey offense.
Game #6:  Poor Jordan Zimmermann once again got the brunt of some actual offense displayed by the Bandicoots as they scored three times in the first inning and never looked back in a 6-1 win over the Nor’easters.
Robinson Chirinos (2) provided the largest nail in the coffin with a three-run first inning homer. Aledmys Diaz and David Peralta had two hits apience for Bethesda.
Domingo Santana continued to flex his muscles, homering again off Rich Hill. It was his 12th of the year.
Hill was pressed into duty on short rest as a result of the injury to Arrieta and a flub up of time allocation by Bethesda’s manager.
Game #7:  Alex Cobb continued his dominance over MWBL hitting lowering his ERA to 1.47 and improving to 7-1 with six shutout innings as Bethesda topped Jersey 3-0.
Mike Montgomery dropped to 2-2 after allowing three runs on four hits in a spot start for Jersey.
Steve Cishek earned his 10th save for Bethesda. Anthony Rendon had two hits and drove in a run to lead Bethesda.
Series Summary:  Despite ongoing issues with getting guys on base, the Bandicoots managed to steal 5 of 7 from Jersey and create some temporary space between the two teams in the NL East.

Coconut Creek  Crushers @ Dallas  Cougars

Game #1:  A two run homer by Jose Abreu in the 6th broke open a close game and the Cougars cruised from there.
Final Score: Dallas 4, Coconut Creek 1
Game #2:  Blake Snell was dominant for the Crushers allowing 3 hits in a complete game shutout. He punched out 8 hitters and did not walk a hitter.
Final Score: Coconut Creek 4, Dallas 0
Game #3:  Manny Pina went 3 for 3 and hit a two run homer helping Dallas jump ahead 4-0 by the end of the 5th and although Daniel Norris flirted in and out of danger the Crushers couldn’t get to him.
Final Score: Dallas 4, Coconut Creek 1
Game #4:  Tyler Collins doubled home two for Dallas in the 2nd and Andrew Cashner, who hadn’t pitched in about 3 weeks made that hold up.
Final Score: Dallas 2, Coconut Creek 1
Game #5:  Patrick Corbin had a 4 hit complete game shutout for the Cougars striking out 9. Dallas only had 3 hits themselves scoring the only run of the game on a sac fly by Josh Harrison in the 5th.
Final Score: Dallas 1, Coconut Creek 0
Game #6:  The bullpen blows the 1-0 lead for Dallas in the 8th, but Nick Hundley delivers the walk off single in the bottom of the 9th to the Cougars the win.
Final Score: Dallas 2, Coconut Creek 1
Game #7:  Dallas closes out the series with another 1 run victory. The go-ahead run scored on a fielder’s choice in the 6th.
Final Score: Dallas 4, Coconut Creek 3
Series Summary:  Dallas takes the series 6 games to 1 and won four 1-run games.

Yonge Street  Stalkers @ Detroit  Crime

Series Summary:  Detroit wins the series over Yonge Street 6-1, couple injuries for both teams.  Last game Harper had 3 HRs 7 RBIs.

Harsens Island  Walleye @ Pittsburgh  Lumber Company

Series Summary:  Pittsburgh bats are either thunder & lightning or dormant; end result is a 4-3 series win.

Sacramento  Capitals @ Portland  Lumber Jax

Series Preview:  The top two teams in the NL West clash in Portland. Portland seems to be vastly overachieving so far. Will the trend continue, or will the Capitals teach them a lesson?
Game #1:  Despite getting out-hit 12-8, Portland squeaks out the 5-4 win. Sale gives up 5 earned runs in 6 IP.
POR 5 SAC 4
Game #2:  An HR by the Capitals’ Reddick accounts for the only run of the game, as Sacramento gets the team shutout.
SAC 1 POR 0
Game #3:  German Marquez gets the complete game shutout for Portland.
POR 3 SAC 0
Game #4:  The Capitals open a five run lead after 1.2, but Portland does all the scoring from there on out. Sale gives up 5 runs in six.
POR 7 SAC 5
Game #5:  Again Sacramento explodes out of the gate, but this time, Portland doesn’t have an answer.
SAC 10 POR 5
Game #6:  Sacramento outhits Portland 14-3, and outscores them 8-3 for the easy win.
SAC 8 POR 3
Series Summary:  So Portland gets the unlikely split. Honestly, I have no idea what is going on with some Portland players, but there should be some drug testing. Kevin Pillar .319 with 9 HR and 14 doubles in 41 games? Jaun Lagares hitting .406? Adam Conley 2-0 with a 1.19 ERA? Surely these guys are on the juice or taunting the law of averages.

Sacramento is a full 15 games over .500, the only team in the NL West that will be above the mark by the end of the year likely.

Rosemere  Renegades @ Triple Creek  Patriots

Series Preview:  Rosmere (11-28) take on the Patriots (14-25) in a 7 game set. Been a rough start to the season for Triple Creek.
Game #1:  Aquino get’s through 4 with just a 1-run deficit but Mella implodes in the 7th to hand game 1 to Triple Creek. Pinder 2-4 w/ 2 RBI leads the Renegade attack. Patriots collect 13 hits, 4 of them long balls.

RR 4 TCP 8

W – Law (1)
L – Mella (3)

Game #2:  Rookie Gohara receives a harsh welcoming to the MWBL by the Patriots as he is pummeled for 7 runs and 4 extras in 4.1 innings of work. Strahm and company allow just 5 Renegade hits to make this is a lopsided affair. 3-4-5 hitters for Triple Creek combine for a 9-14 w/ 9 RBI day.

RR 2 TCP 13

W – Strahm (1)
L – Gohara (3)

Game #3:  Peters takes the hill for Rosmere and receives a shellacking worse than Gohara. Renegade mercifully pulls him after 1.2 but not until he allows 9 hits and 11 runs. Patriots continue their hot hitting with 21 safeties.

RR 3 TCP 18

W – Graveman (3)
L – Peters (2)

Game #4:  Eickhoff goes the distance and nearly gets a Renegade win but Triple Creek manufactures a run in the 9th to pull out a squeaker. Rosmere out hits the Patriots 10-9 but fall short.

RR 5 TCP 6

W – Reed (3)
L – Eickhoff (4)

Game #5:  Eickhoff goes the distance and nearly gets a Renegade win but Triple Creek manufactures a run in the 9th to pull out a squeaker. Rosmere out hits the Patriots 10-9 but fall short.

RR 5 TCP 6

W – Reed (3)
L – Eickhoff (4)

Game #6:  Gsellman goes the distance and spins a nice game to get a W for Rosmere. Pinder leads the attack again with a 3-4 day but Bautista does the damage with 3 RBI.

RR 8 TCP 4

W – Gsellman (2)
L – Newcomb (5)

Game #7:  Tied up 3-3 after 6 full, Triple Creek plates 1 in each of the 7th and 8th innings. Reed locks down the 9th to close out the series with a Patriot victory. Rosmere’s Aquino still looking for this 1st win of the season.

RR 3 TCP 5

W – Hernandez (2)
L – Aquino (7)
S – Reed (7)

Series Summary:  Triple Creek soundly wins the series 6-1.

Long Beach Dirt Bags @ Valdosta  Snappers

Series Summary:  Dirt Bags and Snappers battle to a 3-3 tie as both teams attempted to keep their players fresh. The series saw a lot of tired and available players but no injuries!

Corktown  Cycle @ Columbus  Explorers

Series Preview:  Corktown comes to Columbus for a 6 game set and it’s hard to figure what’s happening with the Cycle when you look at their pitching staff. Explorers need to be sharp at the plate…
Game #1:  Columbus jumps out to 4-1 lead after 2 sparked by a 3 run triple by Enrique Hernandez. But the Cycle peddle back for 3 in the 3rd and 4 more in the 7th to win 9-6. Elvis Andrus gets 3 hits, 3 rbis and homer (6). Tom Koehler gets the win inspite of a tough outing, but he does get 9 ks in 6 innings.
CRK 9-11-0 WP Koehler (2-5) S Cory Knebel (10)
COL 6- 9-0 LP Joe Biagini (1-3)
Game #2:  Explorers come storming back in the second game when Matt Carpenter homers twice (9,10) in the 1st two innings. He smacks 3 hits and knocks in 5. Charlie Blackmon goes 4 for 4. Michael Taylor gets 4 hits including a homer (11) and Eric Hosmer (8) and Hunter Renfroe (10) go over to wall but it was not nearly enough.
CRK 3- 9-0 LP Jacob Faria (1-2)
COL 10-13-0 WP Lance McCullers (3-0)
In the 7th, Schindel wavered over taking McCullers out. He should have because he stayed in and then immediately walked off the mound and will miss 19 days).
Game #3:  Hunter Renfroe (11) homers again but it’s too little as Eduardo Nunez (5) hits a 3 run homer and drives in a 4th run filling in for an ejected Matt Carpenter. Phil Hughes goes 6 for the win.
CRK 2-9-3 LP Braden Shipley (0-3)
COL 6-6-1 WP Hughes (2-1)
Game #4:  After a day off Corktown send Robbie Ray to the mound and Eduardo Nunez smacks a 3 run homer (6) in the 1st. Then in the 7th Columbus manhandles him for 4 more. Michael Taylor homers (5) for 2 late to keep the score reasonable. Josh Tomlin (seeming to be the Chris Rusin from 2 years ago) pitches well YET AGAIN!
CRK 3-7-0 LP Ray (2-3)
COL 7-8-1 WP Tomlin (7-1)
Game #5:  Bottom of the 7th Dee Gordon leads off with a double. That was the 1st hit (and runner) allowed by Jose Berrios. He finishes the 7th giving up nothing more and fanning 8. And his offense gave him more than enough support – D.J. LaMahieu and Guillermo Herdia each drive in 2, Eric Hosmer garners 3 hits.
CRK 7-10-0 WP Berrios (4-2)
COL 0- 2-0 LP Santana (3-2)
Game #6:  Tom Koehler and Joe Biagini face off again and they both are on their games in this one. Biagini goes 6 giving up 3 hits and a run – a lead-off homer to Adam Eaton (1) inthe 1st. Koehler was almost as tough scattering 7 hits and allowing 2 runs, a Charlie Blackmon homer (8) in the 3rd. The game goes to the 9th with Columbus up 2-1 they call on David Robertson to close it out. He hadn’t given up a run all year. That changes with 2 outs when Michael Taylor hits his 6th homer – a 2 run shot to give the Cycle the 3-2 lead. They call on Corey Knebel to close it out. It’s going well, but Ian Desmond gets a 1 out single. Then with 2 outs Enrique Hernandez (in for defensive reasons) connects on a Knebel fastball for a walk-off 2 run homer (2) and the disaster turns into unexpected wonder! Both bullpen aces blow saves in the 9th by both giving up 2 run homers, unreal!!
CRK 3- 5-2 LP Knebel (0-4) BS (1)
COL 4-10-1 WP Robertson (1-0) BS (1)
Series Summary:  Lots of firepower, some pitching gems and in the end the Explorers prevail 4 games to 2. They head out on the road to face Harsens Island. Corktown heads home to host Rosemere.

SBL get a Altuve 2-run HR and a Cozart solo-HR in the B7. FRE put up 3 in the T9 on Schoop’s 2nd 3-run HR of the game!
