Matt Holliday’s 4 RBI came in the first two games for MAN.

Grand Haven Gators @ Columbus  Explorers

Series Preview:  Grand Haven comes to Columbus – Explorers looking to rebound after the thrashing they got last week at Sacramento. Gators looking to the future ….
Game #1:  Kirk Nieuwenhaus gets Gators up 2-1 with 2 run homer (3) in the 3rd, but Explorers wake up in 5th with 4 runs including a Zimmerman 3 run homer (1) and take the opener 7-2. Cody Anderson (1-0) gets the win, Marquez (2-3) the loss.
Game #2:  Explorers still seem sleepy and Gators are going to try to take full advantage. Hoffman goes 8 strong scoreless innings and he’s backed by a solo Cron homer (5) and his own rbi single. Going into the 9th, it’s 2-0 but Romine (Romine??) leads off with a homer (1), he already had a triple in the game. Hoffman is pulled for Kintzler, but 2 outs later, Martin homers (3) to tie the game. In the 10th, the Explorers a PH walk-off single from Flowers for the win. Robertson (1-0) gets the win, Liberatore the loss (0-2) and Kintzler blows his 2nd save.
Game #3:  Explorers explode in this one, but the Gators pitching staff implodes – inclduing hitting 3 Columbus batters (2 of them catchers) and the 3rd was Romine – apparently they were still upset with his performance the previous day. Romine will end up riding the bench for a while with an injury – he’ll miss the rest of this series and next week as well. [Starting to run a hospital ward this year.] Blackmon and Iglesias each have 4 rbis. Tomlin (4-2) gets the win, Finnegan (2-6) the loss. Final 11-2 Columbus.
Game #4:  Columbus comes out with 1 in the 1st, 2 in the 2nd and that was enough. Gators come back with 1 in the 3rd but can’t stop Columbus from scoring more. Amarista gets 3 hits and scores twice. Duffey gives up 10 hits and 5 runs in 6 innings for the loss (2-5). Shoemaker (3-1) gets the win, Rodriguez the save (5).
Game #5:  Columbus ace J.A.Happ takes the hill and his team can’t get much off Stripling. Navarro comes out bombing against Happ (3 hits) and he drives in 1 in the 2nd (with a double) and then smacks a 2 run homer (6) in the 7th for the game winner. Stripling goes 6 for the win (2-0) giving up 5 hits, 2 runs (1 earned). Liberatore and Kintzler (S – 8) get it done this time. Happ drops to 3-3 – and is wondering where his run support has gone, he even drove in one of the 2 Columbus runs inthe 3-2 loss.
Game #6:  Gators like winning so much in game 5 that they score 4 runs in the 1st of game 6. They couldn’t do much to Cody Anderson in game 1, but they solved him this go around. Beckham doubles in 2 (3 hits in the game) and Galvis crushes a 2 run homer (6). In the 5th they get another run off Anderson (5 ip, 10 hits, 5 runs).
BUT – the Explorers get 1 in the first and then they do a 4 run 5th to tie the game. Marquez stays in for the 6th – bad move as Columbus plates 3 more (all 8 runs charged to Marquez. Then the Explorers get 4 more in the 7th and the once 5-1 deficit turns into a 12-5 win. Marquez takes the loss (2-4). Robertson (2-0) gets the win in relief. Nunez has big game with homer (6) and 3 rbis, Carpenter 3 hits,2 rbis and so on.
Series Summary:  Series ends up a 5-1 win for Columbus as they get to play their full roster – and lose Romine for a while. They’re still waiting to see if Shin-Soo Choo can do much, he’s been in the hospital for most of the year. Next week – Columbus travels to Valdosta as the two teams continue their battle to see who will be looking up the closest to Tempe. Grand Haven will host the NL West leading Triple Creek.

Corktown  Cycle @ Tempe  Tempers

Series Preview:  The NL East last place Corktown Cycle (10-22) visit the NL Central leading Tempe Tempers(28-6) for a six game series.
Game #1:  Lester tossed six hitless innings and Santiago went the final three innings for the save. Votto hit a 3 run HR and Cespedes had a 2 run HR.
Tempe 10-0
Game #2:  Tempe got started with a 2 run HR by Tulo. Beckham rallied the visitors when he made Tempe pay for walking Hosmer with a bases clearing 3 run double. A Braun solo tied it. The score remained tied until the the 10th when a Cano RBI single scored Votto for the win.
Tempe 4-3
Game #3:  Cueto went five innings for the win and Santiago pitched the last four innings for the save. Homeruns by Cabrera and Bogaerts along with multi rbi Triple from Tulo put the game out of reach.
Tempe 8-1
Game #4: A pinch hit double and a RBI single by Bogaerts was the first score of the game in the bottom of the 6th. It looked like Tempe’s pen would lock up another win until Lemahieu hit a two out, two run homerun in 8th off Law. Lester had been in line for his MWBL leading 9th win. Colome closed it the 9th for the Cycle’s first win of the series.
Corktown 2-1
Game #5:  Back and forth fare with an unlikely hero. Leon drove in the first run of the game in the 5th but Hosmer tied it with a solo HR in the 6th. Cabrera’s sac fly in the 7th put Tempe back up, but a Chirinos solo hr in 8th tied again. Tempe ran out of pinch hitters in the 9th and sent Hoying a 930 player to pinch hit with 2 outs and no one on. He crushed a double down the line and Dickerson kicked the ball allowing Hoying to come around for the unofficial homerun (E) in the park.
Tempe 3-2
Game #6:  Wright tossed 8.2 scoreless innings and left the game with one out left in the 9th so a couple itchy relievers could get some work. The next batter reached and a Hosmer 2 run shot made a little interesting. Cano and Cespedes each hit two run homers for Tempe.
Tempe 4-2
Series Summary:  The Cycle’s offense couldn’t really get going, but their pitching kept them in it 4 of 6 games. Tempe was hoping for the sweep, but the 5-1 series win was still quite satisfying. The Cycle go back home to host Jersey next week while the Tempers will host a very talented squad from Bethesda.

Series Summary:  Sox go 4-2 in sunny Valdosta for the series win.

Southbend  Lynx @ Detroit  Crime

Series Summary:  Detroit wins series 5-1.

Chicago  Mobsters @ Hollywood  Werewolves

Series Summary:  Hollywood & Chicago split 6, but in reality, the Mobsters should have taken 5 of 6. 2 late wins helped Hollywood. Kershaw sat the series out so thats a huge plus for Hollywood to come out with a split not relying on him.

Sacramento  Capitals @ Rosemere  Renegades

Series Preview:  Two teams going different direction.
Game #1:  All Sacramento 9-2
Pence and Longoria went yard.
Game #2:  Another blow out. 11-0

Game #6:  The trend is back 11-2
So is Longoria…
Game #7:  7-3 Sacramento
Series Summary:  Totally Brutal… Rosemere had the lead for ONE (1) inning …

Jersey  Nor’easters @ Long Beach  Dirt Bags

Game #1:  This was a great pitcher’s duel between 2 less than great pitchers. Peralta gave up 2 hits and no runs over 9 innings and Jimenez 2 hits while striking out 9 in 8 innings. It was still scoreless in the bottom of the 10th when Span had a walk off hit knocking in PR Pennington to give Long Beach a 1-0 win.
Game #2:  Long Beach jumped out to a 6-0 lead behind 2 run 2Bs by Barney & Casali. Jersey rallied in the 9th to cut the lead to 6-3 but Hughes retired the tying run Gillaspie to end the game. Anderson gave up 1 hit over 6 innings to get the win.
Game #3:  Fiers pitched an 8 hit CG as Long Beach won 4-1. Dietrich, Span & Rivera had solo HRs to provide all the offense Fiers needed.
Game #4:  Bruce broke up a scoreless tie in the 12th with a 2 run HR to give Jersey a 2-0 win. The starters were great as Quintana threw 8 shutout innings and Salazar 8.
Game #5:  Long Beach took advantage of 5 Jersey errors that led to 5 unearned runs and rolled to an 8-2 win. Span & Kiermaier homered and Hellickson picked up the win.
Game #6:  Jersey jumped out to a 4-1 lead in 5th but Long Beach tied it in the bottom of the inning on a Raburn 2 run 2B. The Dirt Bags exploded for 7 runs in the 7th on a Kiermaier solo HR, a Barney grand slam and a Lind 2 run shot and won 11-4.
Game #7:  This game was scoreless until the 15th when Duda hit a PH HR for the only run of the game in the Nor’easters 1-0 win. The starters Peralta and Anderson both pitched great.
Series Summary:  Long Beach won 5 of the 7 games.

Coconut  Creek Crushers @ Mesa  Solar Sox

Series Preview:  Division mates meet in the desert. Not much pitching on both sides may mean a bunch a hitting!
Series Summary:  Mesa takes the series 4-3 despite Mookie Betts going crazy (12-29, 8 runs, 12 RBI, 3 HRs). Mesa, however, out homered Coconut Creek 12-10 and eked out the series win.
