Series Preview
Tempe looks to build momentum heading into the playoffs while Pittsburgh trys to finish the season strong with a winning record.
Game #1:
Pittsburgh jumped on Iwakuma in the 1st for four runs and then on Cain in the 2nd for five runs. Wacha tossed seven strong shutout innings for the win. Tempe used 17 different pitchers during the game.

Game #2:
The Lumber Company scored three runs in the 1st and knocked Cueto out of the game after two innings. However, Tempe finally figured out Hutchison in the 4th and 5th inning scoring eight total runs. Casher worked the final five innings for the save.
Tempe 9-7
Game #3:
Chris Davis crushed a three run home run in the 1st. A Lucroy two run shot in the 4th made it closer, but Tempe got the the two runs back in the 5th. Chen finally ran out of gas in the 8th, but Clippard bailed him out of the save.
Tempe 5-4
Game #4:
Tempe broke open a 1-1 tie in the 6th with four runs. Cespedes went 3-5 with two RBI and Gomez hit a two run homerun. Iwakuma went seven innings for the win.

Game #5:
This was all Tempe as they pounded out 18 hits and 13 runs.

Game #6:
The Lumber Company put up six runs in the first 3.1 innings which was more than enough as a Wacha pitched another seven inning gem Suarez hit a two run homerun and drove in three runs. Chris Davis hit his 3rd and 4th homeruns of the series in the losing cause.
Pittsburgh 7-3
Series Summary
Only one of the six games was really close as most games saw lopsided scores by the 5th or 6th inning. Wacha and Chris Davis made strong showings for Pitcher and Hitter of the week.

Game #2: DAL Adam Warren R (10-4 2.69 124 IP) – He can string the K’s together MAN Vance Worley R (4-6 4.46 80 IP) – a control pitcher walking only 2.45 batters per nine inningsBack to back doubles by Tyler Collins and Blake Swihart gave Dallas the lead 1-0 in the third. Swihart would score on a Josh Harrison single. One out later after SB Harrison would score on an Abreu single. Colby Rasmus would close out the scoring in the inning with a 2 run homer, his 23rd of the season. After three complete Dallas leads 5-0. The Cougars would get three more runs in the 4th inning as they coasted to victory. Aaron Hill got the lone Project run with a solo homer in the 7th. Rookie catcher Blake Swihart goes 4 for 4 with a walk for Dallas.

Game #3: DAL John Lackey R (19-8 3.12 210 IP) – lost his last two starts MAN Alfredo Simon R (6-7 4.73 83 IP)In the bottom of the first Abreu starts the scoring by doubling home a run for Dallas. The Cougars would add two more runs in the third. Kelby Tomlinson singled home one run and later in the inning he would score all the way from first base on a hit and run single from Pollock.
Yangervis Solarte would hit his 23rd homer of the year in the 4th and it was more than enough for John Lackey to get his 20th win. Lackey and the bullpen combined to allow only two hits while punching out 8.Final Score: Dallas 5, Manhattan 0
Game #4: DAL Patrick Corbin L (10-2 2.24 96 IP) – Five quality outings in a row MAN Kevin Jepsen R ( 3-3 1.82 74 IP) – Third start of the seasonThis time Manhattan scores first as Garcia singles home a run in the third – his 120th hit of the year. The Project add a run when Austin Jackson hits 9th homer of the year with two outs in the 4th. Dallas gets one run back in the home half of the 4th on a solo home run by Solarte and then the Cougars would tie it later in the same inning single by Swihart. Dallas would take the lead in the 7th on Pollock’s 22nd homer of the year, but that advantage was short lived when Kyle Seager stepped up with the bases loaded in the top of the 8th, “Infield back at double play depth … the runners take their lead … now the delivery and he tags this one right on the button … deep to straightaway center that could be trouble … POLLOCK racing back … big trouble … that ball is gone! a grand salami … and they’re going to have quite a party at home plate SEAGER will circle the bases … for Seager his 23rd home run.

Game #5: DAL Chase Anderson R (6-7 4.56 120 IP) – eleven straight innings without yielding a run MAN Rick Porcello R (13-12 3.77 186 IP) – a strikeout pitcherManhattan opens the scoring in the first on a sac fly by Seager – his 89th RBI. Later in the inning Matt Holliday delivers a two-out ribbie-single. Then a Dallas error led to the Project’s third run on a single by Hill. After the first inning Chase Anderson was able to settle down the rest of the game. He was helped by a big bottom of 2nd. Nick Hundley started the comeback with a ribbie-single and he would score when the next hitter, Miguel Rojas tripled. Later in the inning Gregor Blanco would double home a run to give the Cougars the lead at 4-3. Blanco would then score on a single by Nick Franklin and Dallas had completed turning a three run deficit into a two run lead at 5-3.

Game #6: DAL Dallas Keuchel L (25-2 1.83 236 IP) – 13 straight wins, a control pitcher he’s allowed only 1.98 walks per nine innings MAN Vance Worley R (4-7 5.04 84 IP)In the bottom of the third Blanco signals home a run for Dallas. The Project would tie the game in the 4th on a double by Bryan Holaday. Rasmus would give lead back to Dallas in the bottom of the 4th with a
two run line drive home run(24). Jake Elmore would get the Project closer in the 5th with his first home run of the season. It also happened to be his 50th hit of the year. However any thought of taking down Keuchel went away after back to back homers by Jed Gyorko and Abreu in the 5th.Final Score: Dallas 5, Manhattan 2

Series Preview
Couple of playoff bound teams hook up for a 6 game tune up.
Game #1:
Wheat Kings get to Arrieta and then pounce on the Bandicoot bullpen for a 7-3 win.
Game #2:
Martin doubles in a pair to put Clovis on top 5-3.
Game #3:
Colabello triples in a pair in the 8th to give Bethesda their first win, 4-3.
Game #4:
Crawford smacks a grand salami in the first to give Clovis a big lead. Bethesda kept chipping away but never quite caught up. Wheat Kings 6-4.
Game #5:
Wheat Kings go nuts at the plate for 14 runs as Liriano cruises to his 16th win, 14-4
Game #6:
Bethesda returns the favor with 6 in the first for Arrieta who cruises to the 9+1 win for his 16th win.
Series Summary
Clovis takes 4 of 6. Arenado and Drew each hammered 3 homers.

Series Preview
First place Capitals visit Valdosta.
Game #1:
Valdosta 4-1. Julio Teheran improves to 17-8 and is backed up with homers from Josh Hamilton (6) and Kurt Suzuki (8). Kimbrel saves #28.
Game #2:
Sacramento 1-0. Salazar improved to 18-7 and Wisler was the tough luck loser again (3-10, 3.36).
Game #3:
Sacramento 3-1 (14 Innings). Kelly Johnson’s 14th inning HR off of Luis Avilian was the game winner for the Capitals. Luke Gregerson improved to 8-0 out of the pen.
Game #4:
Valdosta 3-0. Phil Hughes pitched into the 8th and Miguel Sano hit a pair of HR’s off of Greinke as the Snappers win.
Game #5:
Valdosta 6-5. Snappers committed 4 errors but a pair of 3 run HR’s proved to be the difference. Kimbrel saves #30.
Game #6:
Sacramento 7-2. Teheran was rocked for 7 runs in 1 1/13 IP as the Capitals cruise to the win.
Series Summary
Valdosta got some great pitching to keep pace with the Caps and earn a split of the 6 game set.

Bautista’s three RBI help TIJ take this one. Four two-run HRs account for all but two of the runs in the game. The other two scored on FC.

HR: MCM–Young, Castellanos

TIJ came back late from a 3-1 deficit to take a 4-3 lead. MCM answered with three runs in the ninth, capped by Castellanos’s walk-off two-run HR.

Game #3:

MCM 2 – TIJ 1

WP: Ramos
LP: Bailey (CG)

HR: MCM–Trout; TIJ–Butler

Zimmermann cruised for eight innings but Ramos blew the save by giving up a game tying solo shot by Butler in the ninth. Trout took him off the hook and gave him the win with a lead-off solo shot of his own in the bottom of the ninth. Bailey deserved a better fate for his strong complete game effort.

MCM 16 – TIJ 1

HR: MCM–Ruf, Panik, C. Young, Trout

This one got real ugly real quick. MCM scored seven in the first, and scored in every inning through the sixth. Mike Trout went 4-5 with a HR, 5 RBI, and 2 runs.

MCM 3 – TIJ 2

WP: Ramos
LP: Layne

HR: MCM–Castellanos; TIJ–Odor

TIJ took a 1-0 lead on a Lamb RBI single in the 4th. Castellanos put MCM in front with a two-run bomb in the seventh, but Roughned Odor tied it up sith a solo HR in the eighth. Aybar won it for MCM with his RBI single into the corner in the 11th. Third walk-off win for MCM in the series.

Game #6:

MCM 2 – TIJ 0

WP: Bassitt (CG)
LP: Nelson (CG)

HR: MCM–Castellanos, Moss

Bassitt shut down TIJ, scattering three hits. Nelson pitched almost as well, but gave up two solo HRs.

Series Summary
MCM takes the series 5 games to 1
Mike Trout hit .458, with 3 HR, 9 RBI, and 5 runs.
Nick Castellanos hit .285 with 3 HR, 6 RBI, and 5 runs.
Ramos had two relief wins for MCM.
Nelson and Bailey both pitched well for TIJ, with only one win between them to show for it.
TIJ scored 10 runs in the first two games, then managed only a total of four in the next four games.
With a playoff spot guaranteed and no way to win the division, MCM is glad to get through the series with no injuries.

 

Jersey  Nor’easters @ Columbus  Explorers
Series Preview
The Jersey Nor’easters blow into Columbus hoping to catch the Explorers down after last week’s thrashing by the evil empire (Tempe). Pitching was good but hitting no existent. How will the
Nor’easters fare this week?
Game #1:
Well the Explorers got 10 hits and homers from Blackmon (22) and Carpenter (36) to get an easy 6-1 win.
JNE 1- 5-0 LP Johnson (0-2)
COL 6-10-1 WP Santana (11-5)
Game #2:
But not so fast on any ideas of a sweep. Columbus up 3-0 through 4 when Happ gives up a 2 run shot to Bruce (28). Then he gives up 2 more in the 6th as Jersey takes the 4-3 lead. But Happ is helped out in the 6th as Columbus gets 2 more, but then O’Day and Chafin can’t hold it as Jersey plates 2 in the 8th to win the game.

Game #3:
The Whopping sticks came out for this one as Columbus cruises to a 10-1 lead (a NINE RUN 5th didn’t hurt) through 6. Jersey scores single runs in the 7th, 8th and 9th offset by a Columbus 3 spot in the 7th for a 13-4 finale. Kendrick (9) and Excobar (12) homer for Jersey, Zimmerman (8) and Desmond (11) – his a grand slam, he also went 4 for 4, homer for Columbus.

Explorers again cruise to easy 10-2 victory. Gillaspie gets knocked out game while fielding a ball and will miss he rest of the season. Gregorius homers (9) in the losing effort – Rusin AGAIN surprises with a 3 hitter through 6. Can a 3 grade starter be pushing for a post season start?

Game #5:
The Explorer bullpen has been somewhat remarkable – but are they intentionally blowing saves to get wins? 3-0 top of the 9th, Milone tossing a NO-HITTER. Leadoff batter doubles. So Milone leaves and Rodriguez comes in to pitch. A walk and two more doubles and the game is tied. Columbus uses the small ball approach in the bottom of the 9th to win but Milone’s great effort went for naught (should have kept him in there). Gregorius HBP will miss 2 days, Coghlan crashes a wall and will miss tomorrow.

Game #6:
No blown save but no decision for starter McCullers as he gives up 4 runs (on 6 hits) – Murphy 2 run HR (18) and Montero 2 run HR (4). Columbus stays close with Blackmon driving in 1 in the 1st and hitting 2 run HR (23) in 3rd. Choo ties it with 2 run HR (20) in 8th and then and error and small ball gets Columbus the winner in the 9th.

Series Summary
Columbus creeps closer to clinching the division with the final week at home for tune-ups and champagne against Selkirk. Jersey goes home to hast the Outlaws.

Gallardo was strong, tossing a CG. Kenys Vargas crushed a pair of HR (incl a GS) and plated 8. EIGHT!

Detwiler was the tough luck loser for the Cannons. Marco Estrada and the home team pen were just a bit better.

YSS scored a pair in the btm of the 10th. Jesus Montero clubbed a couple of HR, including the winner.
