J.Wieland had it going for CCC for 7 innings. And he had support from a solo homer from J.Mercer and a 2-run shot from W.Middlebrooks. But in the 8th, the meat of VIR’s lineup loaded the bases and A.Ramirez cleared them with his 18th home run.

Columbus  Explorers @ Tempe  Tempers
Series Preview
This series looked like it was going to determine the division just a couple weeks back when the Explorers lead was just a single game. Flash forward a couple weeks and the Tempers are now nine games back and only focused on meeting usage requirements.
Game #1:
Andrew Cashner was suppose to face 38 batters to move him closer to his usage requirements, but he was only able to face 32… He made the most of the 4 grade with a complete game shutout. Fellow usage seeker, Melky Cabrera hit a solo homerun for the only run of the game.
Tempe 1-0
Game #2:
Tempe jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Blackman hit a two run home run in the 9th, but Iwakuma held on for another Tempe complete game.
Tempe 3-2
Game #3:
The Explorers put up two quick runs, but Tempe rallied back as the pen bailed out Cueto. Cozart, another usage seeker, powered the offense with a homerun and a single.
Tempe 6-2
Game #4:
Tight back and forth game. Solo by Blackman in the 6th and then a solo by Cespedes in the bottom of the 6th. Desmond solo in the 7th put Columbus back up, but Tempe rallied for two in the bottom of the 7th. A Carpenter three run jack in the 8th finally put the game out of reach.
Columbus 5-3
Game #5:
Rapp-a-Happ – Tempe got to Happ early and often led by a bomb from usage seeker Gattis. Fellow usage seeker, Weber ran into some trouble in the 5th, but Clippard bailed him out and potential took his only chance at a win this season.
Tempe 6-2
Game #6:
Cashner did it again. Well, not a complete game, but he recorded 9 SO in 5 INN for the win. Beltre was hero of the game going 3-3 with 3 RBI’s, HR, and two doubles.
Tempe 4-1
Series Summary
Tempe moved half dozen players closer to their usage requirements and somehow also managed to win 5 of 6. Tempe’s pen is now completely used up and Columbus still holds a commanding five game lead…Time to start planning for the wild card and offer congratulations to Columbus for leading the National League Central wire to wire.
