Pittsburgh wins 9-4.
Game #2:
A bit of a heart breaker for the Nor’easters. They get a great game out of Brad Hand who pitches 9 innings of 2-run ball. Boxberger pitches the 10th and gives up a lead-off home to Matt Kemp and then a 3-run shot by Teixiera.
Pittsburgh wins 7-3.
Game #3:
More of the same for Jersey. Tim Hudson gets the start and immediately gives up 5 runs in the 1st. Eduardo Rodriguez pitches well for Pitt and the Lumber Company takes the game 7-1.

Game #7:
Led by that pain-in-the-butt Teixiera who has 2 more hits and 2 more RBI the Lumber Company top off a great series by taking Game 7 by a score of 7-3.

Pittsburgh wins the series 6-1. The good news for Jersey is that many of the guys are making good progress in getting the required amount of playing time in.

Valdosta  Snappers @ Columbus  Explorers
Series Preview
Valdosta (17-10) comes to Columbus (22-4) in a surprising early NL Central showdown between 2nd and 1st place. Explorers on cloud 9 in early going and this week beefed up the bullpen (Darren O’Day) and the OF (Shin-Soo Choo). How will that pan out, can they keep the streak going.Watch out, some wars erupted during this series…..
Game #1:
Colby Lewis (2-2) square off against Ervin Santana (0-1) to get the series started. The Snappers begin the scoring in the 2nd when Infante leads off the inning with a monster HR (2). They add another in the 3rd on a Sano double and Smith single. Infante runs the score to 3-0 in the 6th when he singles home Smith (double). Explorers finally get on the board in the bottom half when Carpenter cranks homer #9 (#9, #9) with a man on, 3-2 Snappers. But Lewis holds firm and  is backed by Kimbrel and Vizcaino as Valdosta takes the opener.
VAL 3-7-2 WP Lewis (3-2) S Vizcaino (5)
COL 2-6-0 LP Santana (0-2)
Game #2: C.J. Wilson vs. A.J. Happ – initially it looked like a pitchers duel, but ended up a pitcher’s brawl. Columbus gets 2 in the 1st when Choo reaches on a Barnhart error. Carpenter follows with a 2 run homer (10). So then Zimmerman steps in and Wilson nails him on the shoulder – 12 day injury and a trip to the DL! Umpire is taking notes. Bottom of the 2nd Columbus adds another run on a Flowers double and then with 2 outs Nunez is hit on the elbow – stays in, but that ump is writing down some more notes. Choo steps in and knocks a base hit that scores Flowers for a 3-0 lead. Meanwhile Happ is doing is amazing Happ thing (not allowing many runs) when in the 4th with 1 out, Barnhart “mysteriously” leans into a pitch and takes one on the elbow. Remember that UMP, his notebook has no more room and Happ is tossed!! And Barnhart’s ploy is costing him 13 days of injury. And Valdosta gets no runs out it – but they do get Happ out of the game. Move to the 7th – After Valdosta loads the bases with 1 out, Dunn leaves the game and Abad comes in. He gets Martin to ground to short, but Columbus can  only get 1 out and a run scores, 3-1 Explorers. Hechavarria then hits a one hopper to the wall scoring both Infante and Martin to tie the game. The tie is short lives when Carpenter hits a solo shot (11 – and his 2nd of the game) in the bottom half. Columbus adds another when E.Hernandez hits a double and with 2 outs  and Fernando Rodgriquez pitching) they decide to walk Desmond. Holt comes in to PH for ABAD and singles scoring 1 to make it 5-3 after 7.
Then Schindel decides to ask Francisco Rodriguez to get 6 outs and pitch the 8th and 9th. Didn’t work. Smith leads off with a home run (5). The next 2 snappers go down. Suzuki then walks. Infante comes up and hit’s one hard over 3rd for a double, Suzuki holding at 3rd. Home town fans breathing a sigh of relief. Barmes then comes in to PH and he doubles scoring both runners and giving the Snappers the 6-5 lead – and Rodriguez his 1st blown save.
But hold on – bottom of the 9th Vizcaino comes in to get save #6. Leadoff hitterCarpenter whiffs but E. Hernandez walks and Revere comes in to PR. Blackmon then comes in to PH for Romine. Revere steals as Blackmon misses the pitch. He does it again on the next pitch, safe at 3rd with 1 out. With 2 strikes Blackmon then tops one weakly to Hechavarria – only play is 1st but Blackmon beats the throw and the run scores to tie the game. But Vicaino then gets the next 2 and a blown save and we go to extra innings. Bottom of the 10th Delgado comes in to pitch, Choo gets a 1 out walk. Carpenter follows with a walk. Aviala up and Delgado throws one JUST a BIT HIT AND OUTSIDE that goes to the screen. Runners move up. Infield in, Avila bounces one to short, Hechavarria leags, gets it and despartely throws to the plate, but Choo slides in safely and it’s all over.
VAL 6-8-1 LP Delgado (0-2) BS Vizcaino (1) 10 Innings
COL 7-11-0 WP GilMartin (2-0) BS Fr.Rodriguez (1)
Game #3:
Series even at 1 a piece. Hughes starts against Dickey. Garcia rocks one deep over the left center wall (3) with 2 outs in the 1st to make it 1-0 Valdosta. Columbus counters with 2 in the bottom half, Holt rbi single Carpenter rbi single. Dickey settles in and goes the rest of the way giving up 6 hits, just that 1 run and giving the Explorer bullpen a day off. Columbus scores 4 more in the 6th including a 2 run Carpenter blast (12).
VAL 1-6-1 LP Hughes (2-1)
COL 6-12-0 WP Dickey (3-2)
Game #4: Teheran vs. McCullers and this one ends up a pitcher’s duel. Teheran scatters 4 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings, but some sloppy play allowed 1 unearned run, so he gives up 2 run (1 in the 2nd and 1 in the 6th). Meanwhile McCullers is having a good day blanking the Snappers through 5. But in the Snapper 6th Inciarte hits a gapper for a double. Hechavarria then singles moving Inciarte to 3rd and Sano singles him home to tie the game. But it was mentioned Teheran gave up a run in the 6th, it happened on a Gordon single and stolen base. Choo then grounds one to 2nd and the throw to Carter was in the dirt. Gordon goes to 3rd and Choo goes to 2nd. Blackmon then laces one to RF scoring Gordon, but Choo is cut down by Martin at the plate. Score is 2-1 Columbus. McCullers pitches into the 8th when Hardy comes in and fans the 2 batters he sees. O’Day then pitches a perfect 9th for his 1st Columbus save (and 6th of the season).
VAL 1-5-2 LP Teheran (4-3)
COL 2-4-1 WP McCullers (2-0) S O’Day (1)(6)
Game #5: Wars round 2 – McHugh vs. Milone. Choo hits a 2 run homer in the 1st (5) getting Columbus up. Carpenter then steps in and walks. Holt steps up and McHugh drills – and Holt ends up leaving the game (10 day injury). 2nd big injury from HBP for Columbus in series. Bottom 5, Gordon leads off with a triple – Revere is hit by a pitch (2nd clunk by McHugh). Choo then hits a double that scores both runners. De Aza adds an rbi single to the 3 run inning. Valdosta gets on the board in the 6th when Butler leads off with a single. He moves to 3rd on a single by Reynolds (and a Carpenter throwing error), Reynolds to 2nd – no outs. Suzuki pops out. Infante then grounds to Milone, who picks it, gets the batter and holds the runners. Josh Hamilton comes into PH for McHugh, hits one that  snaps his bat in two, Butler scores, Reynolds comes around but is thrown out at home by Choo! 5-1 in the 6th. Carpenter blasts a homer (13) in the 7th to make  it 6-1. Then Duke comes in to pitch the 8th. Romine singles. Then Duke hits O.Hernandez – he’s OK. But Duke is tossed! That was the end of the excitement.
VAL 1-10-0 LP McHugh (2-3)
COL 6-9-2 WP Milone (4-0)
Game #6:
Repeat starters from game 1: Lewis vs. Santana. This time around it was a different story, both guys still did well, but Santana did better. A 2 run Choo homer (6) highlighted the 3 run Explorers 1st. They added another in the 3rd. That was all Lewis would give up (and 1 of those was unearned). The Snappers lone run came in the 6th when Inciarte doubles and Hechavarria singled him home. NO HBP in this game – umpire came out with a short fuse so everyone behaved.
VAL 1-5-1 LP Lewis (3-3)
COL 4-8-0 WP Santana (1-2) S Rodriguez (7)
Game #7: Series finale features the intials boys, C.J. and A.J. – Wilson vs. Happ again – Happ hoping he doesn’t get ejected. Happ has already had a no-hitter this season. He came close to a 2nd one. Joey Butler doubled in the 8th to record the only hit for the Snappers. He had reached earlier on an error and there were two walks, but other than that, Happ faced 31 batters, 1 hit, 2 walks and FIFTEEN (15) strikeouts in recording his 6th win. Offensively, the Explorers benefited from Revere’s 3 hits, 3 runs, and a solo HR (1) as they take the finale 4-0.
VAL 0-1-1 LP Wilson (3-3)
COL 4-5-1 WP Happ (6-0)
Don’t know what’s into Happ, but I’m liking it!
Series Summary
After an opening game loss, the Explorers came back to win 6 straight and run their record to 28-5. Choo knocked 2 homers and drove in 7 in his Columbus series debut, O’Day got a save and gave up nothing in his 3 appearances. and Happ, well who knows what’s gotten into him.

Tempe  Tempers @ Long Beach  Dirt Bags
Series Preview
Long Beach hosts Tempe in an early series featuring playoffs teams from last year off to slow starts.
Game #1:
Tempe jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 1st with Tulo getting a big 2 run 1B. They extended the lead to 8-3 in the 4th when Votto hit a 3 run HR. It was 8-4 in the 8th when Pillar hit a bases loaded 2B to cut the lead to 1. Hardy followed with a 1B scoring Pillar and Ruggiano doubled in Hardy to give Long Beach a 9-8 lead. Melancon closed out the Tempers in the 9th to give Long Beach the improbable win.
Game #2:
Tempe again took a lead. This time 4-0 after a Cano 2 run 2B in the 8th. In the bottom of the 9th Long Beach loaded the bases and cut the lead to 1 on a Lind double with the 3rd run scoring on a Davis throwing error. But the game ended with Lind on 2nd when Socolovich retired Napoli and Span to end the game.
Game #3:
This was a pitcher’s duel all the way. Lester threw a 3 hit shutout in the Dirt Bags 2-0 win. Pillar provided the winning run with a solo HR in the 1st.
Game #4:
Tempe broke out the big bats in the 11-2 drubbing of Long Beach. Cespedes and Gonzalez hit 3 run HRs and Gattis added a 2 run PH bomb.

Series Summary

Series Preview
The NL Wests best and worst teams face off.
Series Summary
Sacramento takes 5 of 6 games, outscoring Triple Creek 29-9 in the series.

Clovis  Wheat Kings @ Corktown  Cycle
Series Preview
The league is starting to separate from contenders to pretenders very early in 2016. On paper Clovis should dominate Corktown, but that is why we play the games.
Game #1:
This game was all Matt Harvey. Complete game 2 hit shutout for the Wheat Kings. Harvey had 9 K’s. Brandon Crawford Homered for Clovis in the victory.
Clovis 3-0
W. Harvey 3-3
L. DeSclafani 2-3
Game #2:
Both starters got beat up in this one. Jungmann gave up 5 in 5.1 innings but had enough run support from his fellow Wheat King bats to get the victory.
Clovis 7-5
W. Jungmann 2-1
L. Rea 0-1
S. Ziegler (7)
Game #3:
Game 3 was all Clovis. Lariano gave up his only hit in the 8th inning on his way to a complete game shut out. It was ALex Rios breaking it up with a double. Brandon Belt went 3-4 with a HR. Three more Wheat Kings homered in this route.
Clovis 8-0
W. Lariano 5-1
L. Hellickson 0-5
Game #4:
Finally an entertaining game for both fan bases as Corktown came back from 4 down to tie it in the 5th. The game remained tied until the 10th when Nelson Cruz drive in the game winner. Jeffry Marte and Chris Gimenez collided on a pop up injuring both guys for a significant amount of time. Former Cycle Brad Ziegler notches his 2nd save of the series 8th of the young season.
Clovis 5-4 (10)
W. Uehara 2-0
L. Shreve 1-1
S. Ziegler (8)
Game #5:
We went extras back to back. The Starting pitchers were nothing less than tremendous for both squads. Gio Gonzalez went 7.1 while only surrendering 2 hits while Adam Morgan was as electric as he ever has been while pitching 10 shut out innings of 5 hit baseball. 10 innings of shut out baseball wouldn’t be enough as Arenedo his a solo shot that would be the difference off Gott in the 12th.
Clovis 1-0 (12)
W. Kontos 1-0
L. Gott 0-2
S. Ziegler (9)
Game #6:
After a couple nail biters, Clovis would flex their muscles once again in game 6. Nelson Cruz went 3-5 with a HR. For the 3rd time in the series a Wheat King pitcher went the distance. This was G. Richards giving up only 5 hits and striking out 10.
Clovis 7-1
W. Richards 5-1
L. DeSclafani 2-4
Series Summary
Clovis came in with business to take care of and they did that indeed by taking all 6 games. These two teams will continue on heading in different directions.
