Sacramento  Capitals @ Bethesda  Bandicoots
Series Preview
With Bethesda finally over the .500 line and only one game out of the log jammed NL East, the Bandicoots are hoping a series against rebuilding Sacramento will give them the lift they need to advance in the standings.
Game #1:
Crappy defense makes the difference in this one as the Bandicoots crap out and drop the series opener 4-2 to Sacramento. The Capitals scored three unearned runs in the game thanks single-handedly to Conor Gillaspie whose two-error virtuoso performance made the difference. The Capitals had just five hits in the game while in contrast the Bandicoots had eight and six walks, but stranded 13 base runners. Albert Pujols (11) and Arismendy Alcantara (5) homered for Sacramento,
Game #2: Six homers including two by Corey Dickerson propelled Eddie Butler and the Capitals to a mashing of the Bandicoots 12-4. The Capitals 17-hit attack was divided nicely, bludgeoning both starter Brandon Morrow and reliever Eramis Ramirez equally as the Bandicoots thought  Sacramento might offer Bethesda a chance to get some of its seldom-used pitchers some innings in an effort to avoid free agency. Yuck. The  homerfest included Kolten Wong (11 – and he had 12 in all of 2014 MLB), Jon Singleton (6), Dickerson 2 (13), Albert Pujols (12), and Tyler Flowers (7). Jimmy Rollins’ power surge continued for Bethesda as he smacked a fairly meaningless homer (#19) in the 4th inning.
Game #3: Marco Estrada’s first start of the season was a beauty until giving up a two-run shot to Arismendy Alcantara in the 8th, but Marwin Gonzalez saved the win with a walkoff RBI single in the 9th for a 5-4 Bethesda win. Bethesda came back in their half of the 8th with two runs off a homer by David Peralta (6), but the Capitals countered with two of their own on RBI singles by Erubiel Arruebarrena and Wilmer Flores off of
closer Jonathan Broxton (blown save #4 for those of you keeping score at home). Lorenzo Cain had three hits for Bethesda which only  managed to strand five runners in this one – thanks in part to three double play ground outs (one in each of the first three innings) and a double-play lineout in the 5th.
Game #4:
The Capitals chipped away at the Bethesda lead, but ran out of time as the Bandicoots evened with series with a close 4-3 win. Jimmy Paredes (2) two-run shot gave Bethesda an early lead against Robbie Ross (6-12) and the Capitals. Carlos Ruiz was 3/4 for Bethesda who went back to stranding double-digit runners (10). Jackie Bradley had two hits for Sacramento.
Game #5: The number 2, 3 and 4 hitters had three hits apiece as Bethesda cranked out 15 hits in a 9-5 win over the Capitals. David Peralta (7) homered for the second time in the series for Bethesda with a three-run shot in the 6-run 7th inning in which Capitals’ starter Dan Haren (13-11) melted down. Jake Arrieta (5-4) was stellar for Bethesda tossing seven innings of one-hit shutout ball before giving way to Brandon  Morrow who got his ass roasted in 1/3 of an inning in which Sacramento scored five times (note that two od the runs were unearned … again as a result of a Conor Gillaspie gaffe). Corey Dickerson (14) homered again for Sacramento and drove in three runs. Newly-acquired Seth  Smith, Anthony Rendon and Adrian Gonzalez were the three amigos who got three hits each.
Game #6:
Making headway just wasn’t in the cards as Tyson Ross lasted just 1/3 of an inning as the Capitals mowed down the Bandicoots 8-5. Arismendy Alcantara (8) homered twice with Tyler Flowers (8) and Albert Pujols (13) each homering once. In a bizarre and disturbing trend, the Capitals scored another two unearned runs – on an error by Conor Gillaspie (that’s seven unearned runs in the series as a result of his errors). Jimmy Rollins (20) and Seth Smith (10) homered for Bethesda.
Series Summary
Bethesda’s spare parts got some badly needed use in the series, but possibly at the cost of coming away with a series split against the ball-crunching Sacramento Capitals who seemed unable to send anyone to the plate who could not hit the ball out of the park.

New York  Outlaws @ Tempe  Tempers
Series Preview
The Outlaws were one game back in the NL East coming into a six game series with Tempe.
Game #1:
New York sent their ace in Hamels and Tempe responded with a white flag starting all the subs and batting practice pitcher Chacin (3 W L). Somehow, Chacin pitched five solid innings and the game remained tied 1-1 until Ramierez singled in Pagan in the 8th to give the Outlaws a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately, Hamels turned the ball over to a wild Rodney in the 9th. Rodney gave up a double, a walk, and then a wild pitch. This allowed a fielders choice to tie the game and a Cargo single to win it.
Tempe 3-2
Game #2:
Cano led off with a solo hr in the first and then Tempe added two more runs in the 2nd. New York threatened in the 8th putting runners on 3rd and 2nd with no outs, but Holland came on early and shutdown Ortiz and the heart of the order. Holland then coasted in the 9th.
Tempe 5-1
Game #3:
New York took the early lead on an Alexei Ramierez solo. A Molina rbi single later tied the game. Granderson added two RBIs in the 3rd but Ramierez tied it up in the 4th with a two run rbi double. Molina scored on a sac fly to give Tempe the lead in the bottom of the 4th and added an insurance solo hr in the 6th. Holland faced the final two batters for the save.
Tempe 5-3
Game #4:
Another tight game – Granderson rbi single and then Utley rbi single tied. Tempe then took a 4-1 lead on RBI hits by Tulo, Cespedes, and Bogaerts. Ortiz rbi double in the 7th and McCann solo hr in the 8th made it a one run game. Holland went 1,2,3 in the 9th for his 3rd save of the series.
Tempe 4-3
Game #5:
Tulo solo in 4th stopped Peavy’s perfect game. McCann solo tied it. Molina and Cespedes each singled and picked up rbi’s in the 6th. Outlaws loaded the bases in the 8th with only out one out. The game would have been tied after a Herra two run rbi single, but Parra missed the mutha frikin 3B and Tempe recorded out (appeal) instead of the run. In the 9th, Tempe used Chacin with two outs to intentionally walk McCann after Rasmus ran out of gas. A tired Holland then came on to get the final out.
Tempe 3-2
Game #6:
Wandy only gave up two hits in the last 7.0 innings he pitched… Unfortunately he gave up singles to the the first four batters in the 1st inning and Tempe built a solid 3-0 lead. Santiago saved Tempe’s extremely tired pen and pitched a complete game two hit shutout.
Tempe 3-0.
Series Summary
New York’s pitching was solid, but their hitting seemed to fizzle every time they got a runner on base. Tempe also seemed to catch every break – whether it was wild pitches or the Outlaws missing bases. Holland’s four saves were also a major factor in Tempe sweeping.
