Tempe  Tempers @ Selkirk  Steelers
Series Preview
Tempe(30-9) is much better team then Selkirk(16-23) but for some reason I felt I had a chance to make the news and surprise them…  Well it was an interesting series and new was made, but alas the news wasn’t good for Selkirk fans.
Game #1:
It was a great game going back and forth as Collmenter was solid 3 in 7 only mistake was a Tulo homer. The Tempe pen saved Ikanawa as Tempe wins a 3-2 nailbiter. Molina was the hero 3 CS
Game #2:
Selkirk got 5 runs of Hector Sanchez and held on to a 5-4 win. Molina nailed the only runner again….
Game #3:
NO HITTER – Despaigne and his assortment of Cuban junk was too much for the Steelers. He K’s 10 Steelers and walked three as he faced 30 batters. McCarthy gets the hard luck loss 1 in 8 innings.
Tempe 2 Selkirk 0
Game #4:
Chen out duels Alvarez and wins 4-1. Holland got his 10th save for Tempe.
Game #5:
Selkirk pitching was great in this one and it was 1-1 in the 8th when the Tempe defence fell apart and Clippard takes the loss.
Selkirk 2 Tempe 1 Soria picks up his 5th save
Game #6:
Selkirk was ahead 1-0 in the 7th when the pen fell apart.
Tempe 4 Selkirk 1 Holland the win Clippard the save(1)
Game #7:
Selkirk was up 1-0 through 5 then Danny Salazar fell apart.
Tempe 6 Selkirk 1 Otero improves to 7-0!
Series Summary
Tempe takes the series 5-2 and even no hits Selkirk. But if it wasn’t for Molina shutting down the Selkirk baserunning they could have lost the series.

Iron City  Yinzers @ Jersey  Nor’easters
Series Preview
It’s a battle of 2 sub-500 teams who really aren’t going anywhere this year.
Game #1:
Howie Kendrick belts a 3-run homer in the 8th for the Nor’easters and they hold on to win 5-2. Joe Beimel wins it in relief of Wily Peralta.
Game #2:
Game of the year so far for Jersey, actually it’s more than 2 games as it goes 20 innings. Jersey came from behind 3 different times to tie the game including dramatic hits in the 9th and 17th inning to tie. Marcus Semien wins it for the Yinzers with a homer in the top of the 20th and the Yinzers win it 5-4.
Game #3:
Jersey bounces back despite a depleted bullpen and several tires and bushed players to win 3-0. Brad Hand goes all the way throwing a 6-hit shutout. Jay Bruce iced it with a 2-run homer late in the game. Lance Lynn took the tough luck loss.
Game #4:
Erik Johnson makes an emergency start for the Nor’easters and pitches well yielding only one unearned run in 9 innings. The game goes 11 innings when Jersey’s Bryan Pena hits a 2-run walkoff homer to win it 3-1. Joe Beimel gets his 2nd relief win of the series.
Game #5:
Jersey’s Jeff Samardzija throws a complete game shutout winning 3-0. Bryan Pena has 2 key RBI’s to aid in the win. Jordan Danks pitched
well for the Yinzers yielding only 1 earned run in 6 innings but does take the loss.
Game #6:
Iron City pushes a run across in the 8th and holds on to win the game 3-2. Jersey manages only 4 hits against Tom Koehler.
Game #7:
A walk-off win for the Nor’easters as they score 2 in the bottom of the 9th to win 8-7. Matt Dominguez with the walk off homer.
Series Summary
Although Jersey wins the series 5-2 it seemed a lot closer and could have easily been the other way around.

Pittsburgh Lumber  Company @ Bethesda  Bandicoots
Series Preview
Pre-season trade partners Pittsburgh and Bethesda meet up in a battle for the middle of the pack in the NL East.
Game #1: The Bandicoots did what they did repeatedly throughout the series and scored five unearned runs on some sloppy defence by Pittsburgh to take the opener 7-3. Not that the Pittsburgh hurlers did a great job – starter Wade Miley (3-3) gave up 10 hits in 6-2/3 innings – but they certainly didn’t get a boost from the gloves of Jorge Polanco and Mark Teixeira whose gaffes kept rallies going in the two-run 3rd  and four-run 7th innings. The Lumber Company scored two unearned runs of their own courtesy of a dropped flyball by Travis Snider.  Marwin Gonzalez was 2/4 in the game for Bethesda including his 2nd homer of the season. He drove in four runs. Alex Cobb improved to a perfect 3-0 and lowered his ERA to 2.02.
Game #2: Two more errors by Pittsburgh but no unearned runs, but the Bandicoots did not need them as they got past the Lumber Company 5-3.  Matt Kemp hit his 7th homer of the season which was one of three hits he had on the night. Ian Kennedy (4-3) took the loss for  Pittsburgh with a mediocre performance in which he gave up four runs on nine hits with four Ks and a pair of walks in 5.2 innings. Alex Wood (2-3) fared somewhat better for Bethesda allowing just two runs on three hits in six innings. Jonathan Broxton tossed a scoreless 9th for his 4th save. Lorenzo Cain finished a triple short of the cycle for Bethesda. His homer was his first of the season. Jimmy Rollins added another with his 5th of the year.
Game #3: Sonny Gray held Pittsburgh off long enough to emerge with a 6-2 win for Bethesda. Gray (5-2) was far from sharp as he allowed seven hits and three walks in just six innings, but was good enough when it mattered. Marwin Gonzalez started in place of Jimmy Rollins and doubled to drive in two. Drew Hutchison (2-5) took the loss for Pittsburgh.
Game #4: A laugher that turned into a close game. Pittsburgh pounded Jake Odorizzi for six runs on eight hits in just three innings, but unfortunately that only came after Bethesda’s Tyson Ross tossed six innings of shutout ball and Justin Verlander pretty much crapped the bed for the Lumber Company and allowed Bethesda to coast to a 9-0 lead. Ross (1-4) got help from Jimmy Rollins (6), Adrian Gonzalez (9), and Grady Sizemore (2) all of whom homered for Bethesda. Billy Hamilton (2) and Mark Teixeira (6) homered for Pittsburgh. Despite some of the lousiest long relief you’ll ever see Odorizzi soaked up enough damage to earn the save.
Game #5: Bethesda’s luck ran out while Mike Moustakas’s shipment of rabbits’ feet came in as the Pittsburgh 3rd baseman smacked a grand slam and drove in six to pace the Lumber Company to a 10-4 win. Billy Hamilton also had three hits and continued to have his way with Bethesda catchers, stealing four bases in the game and scoring twice. For Moustakas, it was his 4th tater of the year. Colby Lewis (2-2) got the win while Jake Arrieta (3-4) stumbled back to mediocrity with the loss. Anthony Rendon (5) and Grady Sizemore (3) had the long ball for Bethesda whose batters were unable to get the clutch hit and ended three innings with the bases loaded without bringing in a run. Robbie Erlin notched save #2 for Pittsburgh with 1-1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Game #6: Speed kills and the Bandicoots were the roadkill. Pittsburgh could manage just two hits and two walks off the Bethesda pitchers, but thanks to the speed of Starling Marte (two steals) and Jason Kipnis (one) they managed to bring around every baserunner that reached 2nd base in a 2-1 squeaker. Jonathan Lucroy brought in Marte in the 5th with a sacrifice fly to tie it 1-1 and Mike Moustakas grounded  out in the 9th with one out to bring in Kipnis for the win. Wade Miley (4-3) did a great job to keep Bethesda under control throughout the  game allowing just one unearned run on five hits in 8 innings. Brandon Gomes (0-1) was nailed with the loss after allowing Kipnis to come around and ruin an otherwise stellar outing by Alex Cobb who fanned six, walked one and gave up a single hit in 8 innings.
Game #7:
An incredibly sloppy game that saw Pittsburgh commit four errors and allow five unearned run, but still almost win as Bethesda emerged
with a 9-7 win. Mark Teixeira homered for #7 on the year. He drove in three while former Bandicoot CJ Cron had three hits. jonathan Lucroy had two hits and two RBIs as well for Pittsburgh. Jon Jay (2) and Matt Clark (1) homered for Bethesda.
Series Summary
With the 5-2 series win over Pittsburgh, Bethesda temporarily moves ahead of Pittsburgh (1/2 game) and Jersey into 3rd place in the NL
East behind Iron City and division leading New York.

Game #1: One of the greatest pitched games in Mid-West Baseball League History as Felix Hernandez takes on Masahiro Tanaka. Neither starter would be around for a decision, but that didn’t stop either of them from going past the 9th inning. Tanaka went 9.2 innings, allowing only 6 hits, no walks and striking out 5. King Felix on the other side was even more dominant. He went 10.2 Innings of NO-HIT Ball, allowing 4 walks and striking out 15 Project batters. both had 2 hits for the Mobsters. Chapman picks up his 14th Save on the season.
Final Score: Chicago 7 – Manhattan 3
Game #6:
A rematch from game #1 pitching gem. Felix Hernandez & Masahiro Tanaka again both pitched very well. Felix Hernandez (9-1 1.24) went 7 Innings allowing only 1 Earned Run. Tanaka (5-2 1.75) went 8 solid allowing only 2 Earned Runs. Chapman picks up his 15th Save on the season.
Final Score: Chicago 2 – Manhattan 1
Series Summary
Some great pitching dominated the series.

Grand Haven  Gators @ Columbus  Explorers
Series Preview
Grand Haven (18-21) comes to Columbus (11-28) – both teams in 4th place in their divisions (for Columbus that is LAST). Both teams making plans for next year, but still looking for excitement this year. Lots of explosive action in this series??
Game #1:
Explorers knock 14 hits including a bases loaded triple from Nunez and roll with Greene’s 1 hit 7 inning shutout performance to take
the series opener 10-3.Moss (6) knocks a 3 run homer in the 8th for the Gators
WP Greene (1-3)
LP Bedard (0-1) – lasted 1.2 innings giving up 5 runs (but only 1 earned).
Game #2:
Explorers get another stellar pitching performance (what?) from Happ as he goes 7 innings giving up 7 hits, 6ks and NO runs. A trio of
relievers keep the Gators scoreless in a 3-0 Columbus win. Bautista smashes the wall and will miss the next game.
WP Happ (3-1)
LP Morton (4-3)
Game #3: OK – when you only get 3 hits AND commit 5 errors you probably don’t have a chance. Well that’s what happened in this game. Oh – and the other team gets 19 hits – 7 (yes SEVEN) of them are home runs! The Gators demolished the Explorers 17-0 in this game (7 of the runs are unearned, but so what!).HR parade – Valencia 2 (1, 2); Votto 2 (4, 5): and Moss 3 (7, 8, and 9) – three guys with multiple home runs in the SAME GAME – has that ever happened before (probably), but that was something.Oh yes – Ervin Santana tosses a 3 hit CG shutout with 8 ks. Moss 6 rbis (4 hits), Votto 5 rbis (and a double to and single to go with the 2 HRs). Valencia also had 4 hits – all three of those guys had career games.
WP Santana (3-6)LP Axelrod (0-2)
Game #4:
Explorers pitching staff needed a day off after game 3 – and got 2 as Scott Baker goes the distance giving up 6 hits and fanning 11 in a 5-1 Explorer victory. Zimmerman (2), Blackmon (3) and Desmond (10) tried to do the Gator explosion but only got 1 homer each, but it was enough.
WP S. Baker (3-2)
LP Burnett (1-3)
Game #5:
Good up and down game as Grand Haven takes early 1-0 lead only to fall behind 5-2 after 2 – but then a 4 run 3rd and 3 run 4th seal
the deal for them as they win 9-5. No more scoring after the 4th. Amarista knocks a 3 run HR (2) in the 4th and Aybar, Moss, Navarro
and Tolleson each get 2 hits and Jimenez picks up the win in relief (Wilson exited in the 2nd inning – and that worked well for the Gators). Jeter got his first HR of the season in the 1st.
WP Jimenez (1-0)
S Walden (1)
LP Tepesch (2-4)
Game #6:
This one had the most suspense. Gators up 4-0 after top of the 4th – 3 run 3rd (capitalizing on Explorer error). Explorers begin the chip
away with a 2 run homer in the 4th from Blackmon (4), and tie it with a 2 run shot from Desmond (11) in the 6th. Amarista then makes
it 5-4 Gators in the 7th – but Dunn comes back in the 8th for the 3rd 2 run homer by Columbus (Dunn’s 8th) and a 6-5 lead. Perez and
Varvaro make it stand in the 9th for the Columbus 6-5 win.
WP Perez (1-2)
S Varvaro (5)
LP Machi (1-2) (BS #1)
Series Summary
Explorers manage to parlay enough offense with some clutch pitching to take the series 4 games to 2. Fans are realistic about the future, but happy to see some wins nonetheless. Next week Sacramento comes to town while the Gators continue the road swing going to Jersey.
