Series Preview

In a Head 2 Head Match up Yonge Street hosts the Mobsters of Chicago.

Game #1:

Matt Latos (12-8 2.27) goes 7.2 strong innings and hands the ball off to Will Smith for his 1st appearance and save on the season. Jason Hayward is 2 for 5 with 3 RBI’s, & Aaron Hicks 2 for 3 with a Home Run.

Final Score: Yonge Street 6 – Chicago 2

Game #2:

Adam Wainwright (14-5 1.71) goes 5.2 innings, along with five Chicago relievers to hold the Stalkers to just 2 runs on 6 hits. James Loney is 4 for 5 with 2 Doubles, 1 Home Run, walk & 6 RBI’s for the evening.  Chicago finds it’s hitting shoes.

Final Score: Chicago 15 – Yonge Street 2

Game #3:

Shelby Miller (6-6 3.95) evens his record going 7.1 innings, allowing only 2 runs, (1 Earned). Jonathon Papelbon goes 1.2 innings for his 29th save of the year. David Wright is 3 for 4.

Final Score: Yonge Street 3 – Chicago 2

Game #4:

Felix Hernandez goes 8.1 scoreless innings allowing only 2 hits, 4 walks, and 0 runs, while striking out 11 Stalkers along the way. Aroldis Chapman picks up his 33rd save on the season with 2 strikeouts facing 2 batters.

Final Score: Chicago 2 – Yonge Street 0

Game #5:

Michael Wacha (4-1 2.01) improves his record going 5 innings allowing only 2 runs, (1 Earned). Pedro Alvarez hits his 1st Mobsters Home Run.  Five Chicago relievers help out Wacha, including Chapman who picks up his 34th save on the season.

Final Score: Chicago 6 – Yonge Street 6

Game #6:

Tied at 2 runs apiece the Stalkers score 2 in the bottom of the 8th to take a 4-2 lead. With Will Smith pitching the Stalkers manager calls for the Closer Jonathon Papelbon with a runner on and up by 2 runs. Papelbon faces 8 batters, but allows the inherited runner, plus 3 more to score for the Mobsters. Paco Rodriguez (3-2 3.35) picks up the win & Aroldis Chapman picks up his 35ths save on the season.

Series Summary

Chicago wins the series 4 games to 2. Yonge Street Happy picking up 2 wins, Chicago disappointed by not taking 5 of 6. Games were close and fun besides game #2 which Chicago won in a route. Chicago heads to Southbend for next weeks games, and Yonge Street heads to Elyria.

Series Summary

Hollywood wins 4 of 6. They win the first 4 and drop the last 2.

Kershaw runs his record to 22-2 and his looking to get to 30 wins, but to do that, he’ll need to get 2 wins South of the Border, which will not be an easy task.

Fremont Cannons @ Elyria Indians

Series Summary

Elyria drops the first two but wins the next four to take the series 4-2

Series Preview

Clash of two strong teams!

Game #1:

The new Crushers contribute in their first game. Soriano hits a solo HR and skinny little Bartolo Colon gets his first AL win. CCC wins 4-2.

Game #2:

Cingrani and the CCC bullpen win a great pitching duel against Anibal Sanchez, 2-0. The pitchers combined for 25 K’s. Was Cingrani’s 9th consecutive win bringing his overall record to 12-1.

Game #3:

CCC takes a 1-0 lead into the 9th but cannot hold it. TIJ prevails in the 10th by a 3-1 final.

Kluber and Santana both hurled strong games.

Game #4:

The new guys help contribute to the only easy win of the series.

Soriano hits another solo HR and V-Mart hits a RBI 2B in a CCC 6-2 win.

Game #5:

Homer Bailey and Justin Upton make sure TIJ gets the 5-3 victory.

Game #6:

Bartolo Colon wins a 2-1 nail-biter and stakes a claim as AL pitcher of the week in his first series played.

Series Summary

The Crushers appeared inspired by the front office making some moves.

Was a very nice series as CCC takes 4 of 6 from the first place TIJ boys.

       Sacramento Capitals @ Tempe Tempers

Series Preview

National League arch rivals met in a somewhat meaningless series. The Tempers on their way to the playoffs and the Capitals way ahead of schedule on their rebuild.

Game #1:

Tempe 4-2

Cuddyer drove in runs in his first two at bats at a Temper. Chris Davis added two more runs on pinch hit triple. Sacramento threatended in the 8th with bases loaded, but Pujols hit into a double play.

Game #2:

Tempe 11-2

Wallace put the Capitals up 1-0 on solo homerun off Buchholz. However Tempe then pounded out 11 runs including a pinch hit 3 run home run by Gindl.

Game #3:

Tempe 4-0

Iwakuma picked up his 23rd win and just missed going to distance by one out. He gave up two hits in the bottom of the 9th with two outs and Holland came on and recorded the final out for the save.

Game #4:

Tempe 4-0 – NO HITTER

Five Tempe pitchers combined to no hit Sacramento. Cain 1 IP, Chacin 2 IP, Howell 2 IP, Buchholz 3 IP and Holland 1 IP.

Game #5:

Tempe 3-1

Beltre single gave Tempe 2-1 lead in the 7th and Cano solo HR in 9th secured the win. Holland picked up his 3rd save of the series.

Game #6

Tempe 5-2

Cano, Beltre, and Cuddyer all homered for Tempe. A late two run double by Triunfel broke up the shutout. Chacin picked up his 16th win and Holland saved his 39th game.

Series Summary

Highlight of the series was the No-Hitter. It should be the first time in MWBL history that five pitchers have worked together to record a
No-Hitter. Buchholz was the only pitcher to throw more than two innings.

Holland was very impressive picking up four saves.

Valdespin’s 2 RBI are the difference as Iron CIty takes another 4-2 decision.

Iron City scores all their runs in the 1st inning, on a Leake 2-run error, and a Guzman homer. Koehler cruises. Myers’s late two-run shot
makes for the third straight 4-2 Yinzer win.

SV: Romo

HR: Hosmer, Reimold, Guzman, Callaspo

Three straight Yinzer home runs in the 4th are all Lynn would need.  Callaspo added a solo shot in the 9th for good measure.

HR: Valdespin, Phegley

Motor City’s offense wakes up to support Straily’s gem. McGuinness’s 3 RBI pace the Muscle

Game #6:

MCM 1 – IRN 0

WP: ROndon

LP: Frieri

Blanton and Hellickson put on a show, both throwing up zeroes before leaving for pinch-hitters late. Blanton gave up 11 hits and pitched in and out of trouble all game. Valdespin, Fuld, and Choice had 3 hits apiece for Iron City. Holt’s walk-off 1B in the 9th scored Myers with
the winner.

Series Summary

Iron City takes the first four games to win the series 4 games to 2.

Guzman had 2 HR and 5 RBI for Iron City; Callaspo also had 2 HR.

Myers had 5 RBI for Motor City

New York Outlaws @ Jersey Nor’easters

Series Summary

The Outlaws and Nor’easters split the series 3-3.

Selkirk Steelers @ Manhattan Project

Series Preview

Selkirk Steelers come to Manhattan.

Selkirk trailing in the NL Central.

Manhattan with slim lead in the NL East.

Game #1:

Manhattan 2-0

Torrid pitchers’ duel, scoreless until the 8th inning,

when Manhattan scores two off Alvarez.

Selkirk fights back strongly in the 9th, gets to 3B,

but Manhattan’s bullpen hangs on to the win.

Game see-saws back and forth until Manhattan scores 3 runs in the 5th.

Zito allows only 1 ER—Selkirk’s other run scored on Freddy Freeman’s

Dullish game has exciting finish.

Manhattan scores 1 run in the first and Darvish shuts out Selkirk through the 8th.

In the 9th, Beltre ties the game 1-1 when he gets hit by Darvish, then scores on Sandoval’s RBI.

Mijares pitches for Selkirk in the 10th, gives up 2 base hits and a 3 run homer.

Manhattan 4-2

Solid pitching by McAllister and Medlen, score is 1-1 going into the 6th.

Buck’s pinch hit double in the 6th scores Schumaker to break the tie.

Then Schumaker and Seager both pick up RBI’s off McAllister in the 7th.

Sandoval wacks a solo HR in the top of the 9th.

Selkirk 3-1

Superb pitching by both McCarthy and Porcello—CG for McCarthy.

Selkirk leads 1-0 going into the 9th—when Smyly dissolves on the mound and gives up RBI’s to both Bogusevic and McCarthy.

Garcia smashes a meaningless solo HR for Manhattan in the 9th.

Approximate repeat of Game 1.

Solid pitching on both sides.

Each pitcher only gives up 2 ER’s.

The entire difference is due to Manhattan scoring on Johnson’s fielding
error in the 6th.

Series Preview

A Match-up between two losers.

Game #1:

Dallas 6, Traverse City 3

Dallas’ Jedd Gyorko & Justin Maxwell each went 2-for-4, with 2 RBI & a HR. Travis Wood falls to 5-15 (3.91 ERA), as Todd Frazier goes 3-for-4, with a solo HR for T.C.

Game #2:

Traverse City 5, Dallas 4 — Crusaders win on walk-off single by Brian Dozier off of the Cougars’ Phil Coke. Dozier had three hits.

Game #3:

Traverse City 7, Dallas 2

Brett Gardner’s 3-run HR in bottom of the 2nd, got T.C. off & running, Brian Dozier added solo HR. David Phelps goes 8 strong innings for the Crusaders, allowing 2 ER’s in 8 innings, with 8 K’s & 4 BB’s.

Traverse City 9, Dallas 3

Donnie Murphy went 4-for-5, 3 RBI & 2 doubles, Ryan Raburn went 3-for-5 with a solo HR, Brett Gardner went 2-for-4, 2 RBI & a HR for the Crusaders.

Game #5:

Dallas 9, Traverse City 4 (10 Innings)

Brandon Laird’s pinch-hit solo HR ensured extras for the Crusaders, but Dallas pulls it out with 5-run 10th inning.

Game #6:


Traverse City 2, Dallas 1 (14 Innings)

Crusaders win with walk-off single to right by Brandon Bantz (scoring in Drew Stubbs), the hit came off the winner from last night in Edgar Gonzalez.

Series Summary

Crusaders win series 4-2, and got themselves out of single-digit home wins. T.C. fans happy, despite players dropping like flies (despite
resting them).
