Game 1 - Two dominant starters in C.Carpenter
and T. Lincecum kick off the 2010 MWBL World Series. Iron City
starts the scoring with a 2 out bloop single by D. Murphy in the
2nd. Tijuana strikes back in the 3rd with a run scoring double by B.
Butler. With men on 1st and 2nd J. Mauer steps up a delivers a run
scoring single to put the home team ahead 2-1. Both pitchers cruise
through the next 2 frames. Top 6 with 2 out, The Yinzer's rally. A
2-out double by K. Morales starts things off. Next batter V.
Martinez steps in and gets drilled. With 2 on and 2 out M. Lowell
hits what should be the last out grounder to first, but no!
Carpenter couldn't find the bag on the cover, Lowell safe. With a
lefty in C. Gonzalez stepping to the plate the Tijuana brings in the
lefty Miller to get 1 out. First pitch Carlos hits a little grounder
towards 1st which scoots past Fielder and allows 2 to score and put
The Yinzers up 3-2. Pierzynski flies out to end the inning. Top 8
sees K. Morales smack a solo shot giving Iron City a 4-2 lead going
into the 9th. An itchy J. Frasor is brought in to close things out.
J. Upton gets things going for the home team who needs 2 runs to
force extras. The delivery from Frasor, Upton swings...No! he didn't
he held up, ball 4. Next batter B. Butler steps in, there goes
Upton...the throw...He's safe. Next pitch to Butler nails him
leaving men on 1st and 2nd nobody out. Mauer steps in...the
pitch...grounder deep short Andrus can get there, they waive Upton
around...the throw is too late, he scores. Bottle Rockets down only
one, 4-3. Frasor just doesn't look comfortable out there. Next,
Beltran steps up. Pitch from Frasor...Beltran swings... A BLAST to
right, it's a no doubter. 6-4 Bottle Rockets win!! Bottle Rockets
win!! We'll see what kind of effect this loss might have on the Iron
City squad. That was tough.
Beltran blast in the 9th inning of game #1 set the
