Fremont @ Oregon - The ’06 MWBL season started off with the league’s most hated rivals coming together for a 5 game series in Oregon, OH. The series was very symmetrical to start with each team winning a low scoring, one run game in the first two, followed by each team winning a close game that turned into a blowout in the last inning or so in the next two. Brandon McCarthy pitched 7 innings of one run ball in his major league debut to give the Neon Knights the series victory over the cannons. Next week the Knights travel to Buffalo while fremont hosts the Indians.

Buffalo @ Canton - Buffalo takes the middle three and the series.

Chicago @ Detroit - No News out of Detroit

Tijuana @ Yonge Street - Tijuana visits Yonge Street and doesn't leave happy. All 5 starters for YSS get wins as Sexson leads the way with 5 HR, and 10 RBI for the series. M. Giles adds 3 HR and 8 RBI in the sweep. Tijuanas lone bright spot was Berkman, who delivered 3 HR but drove in only 4.

Gm 1) In the 3rd inning, two Bottle Rockets ran into each other and were lost for the series. Helluva way to start the year. :) Carpenter throws 8 innings of 2 H, 2 BB ball and fans 8.
Sexson pops 2 HR and has 4 RBI in the opener.
YSS 5
TIJ 0

Gm 2 ) Hector Carrasco throws five 1 H innings, the pen leaks but holds on. Sexson has another HR and 2 RBI. Kearns does the same. Dustin Mohn hit a solo shot for TIJ. :(
YSS 9
TIJ 3

Gm 3) New Stalker Cliff Lee looks good in his debut. 4 different guys knock in a single run for YSS. Lance Berkman HR's twice and knocks in 3 in a losing effort.
YSS 5
TIJ 3

Gm 4) YSS opened up a can in this one. Marcus Giles has 2 HR and 5 RBI, Sexson went 4-6 with another HR. Just 4 of YSS 20 hits went for extra bases, but the additional 16 singles proved to be enough. :)
YSS 16
TIJ 3

Gm 5) The homer barrage continues as Sexson, Giles and Kearns all go deep. Berkman and Mohr hit HR's for TIJ.
YSS 10
TIJ 6
YSS takes the show on the road to Chicago next week, as Tijuana hosts Detroit

Hollywood @ Coconut Creek - Hollywood explodes with 38 runs in the first 3 games and ends up taking the series 3-2.

Highlight of the series was "soon-to-be" pitcher of the week Rich Harden. Harden fires a no-hitter in game-4 with 11 K's.

Severn @ Virginia - Virginia edges Severn 3-2 in opening series.

Iron City @ Kentucky  -

Game 1
Iron City 3 5 0
Kentucky 5 9 0

Derrek Lee homers in his first AB of the season. Kentucky has a 3-1 lead but Iron City ties it up with 2 runs in the top of the 8th inning. Brian Giles hits a two run walk-off homer to give Calero the win and Wuertz the loss.

Game 2
Iron City 0 5 1
Kentucky 14 15 0

This game was scoreless until the bottom of the 5th. The 6th inning has Kentucky score 8 runs; Carrara faces five batters and gives up 5 runs while recording 0 outs. Giles and Sheffield each hit their 2nd homer of the season, but David Eckstien has 5 RBI to lead the Head Hunters.

Game 3
Iron City 1 2 1
Kentucky 5 6 0

Ben Sheets, the ace acquired in the off season, gets his first win for Kentucky. Iron City's brilliant younger hurler Haren gets injured in the bottom of the 3rd -- he should return in the next series though...

Game 4
Iron City 5 9 1
Kentucky 8 8 1

Iron City has a 5 run lead in the top of the 7th with Brady Clark and Edgar Renteria homers leading the way. Kentucky gets to Iron City in the bottom of the 7th with 5 runs to tie the game. Then, Kentucky takes the lead with 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th. Carrara's ERA is a hefty 31.50. Giambi and Glaus each have 4 RBI.

Game 5
Iron City 2 4 1
Kentucky 9 13 0

Kentucky sweeps Iron City's first MWBL series with the 9-2 victory. Sele records 8 strikeouts in 5 innings; but Contreras is too strong in ringing up 11 strikeouts in 7 innings for his first win of the season. For the series, Eckstien and Glaus have 9 RBI followed by Giambi's 8 RBI.

Midland @ Mohawk Valley - No News out of Mohawk Valley

Garden City @ Tempe -

Game 1
Tempe 6 – Garden City 5
There was a lot of excitement in game one.
Tadahito Iguchi (04 draftee) finally made his way over from Japan and did something no other player in MWBL history had done. He hit a game winning walk off homerun in his first MWBL at bat. I don’t think any other player has hit a homerun in their first career at bat and I’m sure no one has hit a walk off homerun. The game also saw the return of Clemens to the Tempe rotation. Clemens made his last start for Tempe in 2001 and was passed up by Tempe in the dispersal draft in favor of Darryl Kile.

Game 2
Garden City 6 - Tempe 3
Gibbons, Rivera, and the rest of the Gangstas rocked Pedro for 6 runs, 10 hits, and 2 HR.

Game 3
Tempe 9 – Garden City 2
Tempe hits 5 HR and Brett Myers records 9 SO in 8inn

Game 4
Tempe 7 – Garden City 4
Tempe slugged 14 hits

Game 5
Tempe 9 – Garden City 5
Manny hit a grand slam to cap off a great series.
Manny gets the series MVP with 4 HR in 16 AB

Michigan @ New River - Michigan takes 3 out of 5 from New River

Clovis & Los Angeles - LA takes 4 of 5 from Clovis to open the season
